You must be 60 years young to be a member. Your spouse, regardless of age is welcome to join. Come join us to dance or sing, exercise, play bridge or bingo! Lunch is served daily. Fresh juicy watermelon, picnics for any reason just because you can be outside! Light skies late in the evening, breathtaking early sunrises. We honor our nation s independence on July 4 th, and this is the perfect time to honor your independence. Strengthen your body by participating in one of the numerous exercise classes. The Zumba Gold class has taken off to new heights adding jingling coin skirts and much laughter to the music. More folks, of all sorts of mobility, are signing up to take part in classes. New programs continue to be added writing, discussion, getting to know one another through a series of really fun questions (What super power would you most like to have? Why?). Come to the Center to engage in any number of activities that will keep your body and mind strong- celebrate your independence! (And let us know what your super power is!). Lauren Rapp Municipal Agent/Senior Center Director LEDYARD SENIOR CLUB PICNIC!! The Ledyard Senior Club Annual Picnic will be held on Wednesday August 7 at 12 noon at Bethel Park on Route 117. The cost is $4.00 per person and includes hot dogs, hamburgers, corn on the cob and dessert. In case of inclement weather, the outing will be held indoors at the Senior Center. Club members and guests are welcome. You do not have to sign up, just come and enjoy, we always have enough food and plenty of fun!! Summer Lunch Outings!! Try various local restaurants each Wednesday afternoon during the summer months and enjoy an afternoon with your friends. Reserve a seat on the bus or meet us there! Sign up ahead of time so that we can make reservations in advance. Meals are on your own and the van fee is $2.00. Loretta Anderson from Senior Resources is here at the Center two Mondays a month and can do a benefits check up for you to see if you qualify for programs that can help you pay for medication, health care, food and more (based on age and/or income). No experience is needed. Material for quilting is provided at no fee. BRIDGE CLUB Tuesdays and Fridays in the Bridge Room beginning at 10 am. 12 noon lunch break. CHORUS Chorus will continue throughout the summer with hymns every Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. COMPUTER/INTERNET SERVICE is available free in our dining-lounge area. LIBRARY BOOKS, tapes and videos are provided for loan by the Gales Ferry Library. LARGE PRINT BOOKS are also available. Books and sign out roster can be found in the Book Room at the end of the hall. SPECIAL BIRTHDAY BINGO Plan on attending every 3 rd Tuesday of the month at 12:30. Game is $1.25. There will be a special cover all game. $5.00 to the winner. Cost for residents is $12.00 for the session. 7 July2013 Ledyard Senior Center News Page 8 Senior Transportation Information Call us at The Ledyard Senior Center offers daily transportation to the Center for activities including lunch, along with rides to medical appointments and other necessities according to the schedule below. All individuals using our transportation must complete an annual transportation form. A wheelchair lift is available and wheelchair riders must have a person to accompany them. Please be aware that the Senior Center does not provide assistance to and from the vehicle. Persons must be able to: Travel without assistance. Climb three 12-inch steps or Use the Wheelchair lift. Wait outside without support for ten minutes. We provide limited transportation to Sub Base medical appointments and the pharmacy for people with a Military/Base I.D. COMMISSION FOR SENIOR CITIZENS The Commission for Senior Citizens meets the fourth Wednesday of the month at 1:00 p.m. The purpose of the commission is to act as advocate and coordinator of services for Ledyard Senior Citizens and to establish policies for the operation and use of the Senior Center. The meeting is open to everyone. The next Commission meeting is Wed.
