2 What to see & do... House In 1856, Victorian carriages rolled along the avenues of the park heavily laden with some of the family s most treasured possessions. Newlyweds George Harry and Catharine were bound for their Staffordshire home, leaving Dunham without an Earl & Countess for fifty years. Visit the house to find out why they made this decision and what was the lasting impact on Dunham. Garden There are 30 acres of garden to explore with areas of both historical and modern planting. Particular historical features include an Elizabethan mount, an eighteenth-century orangery and a bark house and pump house. You enter the garden through the maturing winter garden the largest in Britain. Serpentine paths lead between borders thickly planted for texture and colour. Summer colour is provided by herbaceous borders and a large rose garden. Deer Park As well as the herd of 150 fallow deer, the park offers great circular walks amongst the tree-lined avenues. Mill The oldest building on the estate celebrated its 400th anniversary in See the mill wheel and working machinery in action as you learn about the building s changing use over time. Stables In summer 2016 the Stables opened for the first time, revealing the comings and goings on the estate and the changing modes of transport, from horse and carriage to the motor car.

3 Eating & Shopping Eating The are a range of places where you can enjoy something to eat or drink at Dunham. All our food is cooked fresh on the day and is locally sourced. Restaurant Serving a selection of freshly prepared dishes, cakes and sandwiches. Hot food served between pm. We are now able to offer a private area for groups to book in advance in the Restaurant. You can choose from the following options to best suit your group: Tea or coffee with handmade biscuits & bakes 4.00 per person Soup, a choice of sandwiches & a selection of loaf cakes. Tea or coffee per person Afternoon Tea per person 10.30am 11.45am 12.30pm 1.30pm 3pm 3.45pm *Group bookings to the Restaurant need to be made 2 weeks in advance and cannot be made on weekends, bank holidays or during school holidays. Shopping Visit the shop in the Visitor Centre for a selection of gifts, local products and a wide range of plants. Guided walks in the Park Guided walks in the Park are available on request with sufficient notice. Volunteer park guides lead the walks which can be tailored to suit the individual requirements of your group. Walks must be requested at the time of your booking. Walks will be charged at 3.00 per head (including National Trust members) and funds raised from this venture will be donated to the upkeep of the Park.

5 Group rates We offer a discounted rate for groups. To qualify, groups must book two weeks ahead, consist of people (including National Trust members) and pay in one transaction. Booked groups receive a free reserved coach parking/minibus space. House and Garden per adult (25 March 5 November) Garden Only 8.00 per adult (25 March - 31 December) (Groups visiting between 11 February and 24 March will be charged 2016 prices) Please note that while entry to the House & Garden is free for National Trust members, both members and non-members require a ticket from the Visitor Centre. When to visit Dunham Massey is a very busy property but we are happy to welcome up to 3 groups each day. When making a group booking, please state your preferred arrival time. Groups can visit the House at any time of their choice, except from 11 February to 22 March when all House visits are by guided tour only. There are some occasions e.g. Bank Holidays and event weekends when we are unable to take bookings. Also in severe weather conditions we may have to close the property. 6 Making a booking 1. Check availability for your chosen date and group time by ing: dunhamgroupbookings@nationaltrust.org.uk 2. A provisional group booking will be made and a booking form sent to you. Should your first choice be unavailable, alternative dates will be suggested. 3. Please complete and return a copy of the booking form at your earliest convenience. 4. Once we have received your booking form a confirmation letter will be sent to you. 5. We appreciate that at the time of booking it may only be possible to provide estimated numbers. Please confirm final numbers in the week before your visit. If you would like to speak to our Group Booking Officer, please call On the day When you arrive on site you will be welcomed by the Car Park Attendant who will direct you to your parking space. The leader of the group should then make their way to the Visitor Centre with membership cards for the group and any payment for non-members. Payment should be made in one transaction and we accept cash, credit/debit card, cheque or travel company invoice. Cheques should be made payable to the National Trust with full contact details printed on the reverse. Tickets will then be issued for your group. A member of staff will accompany you back to your coach/minibus for a short welcome and orientation talk, and tickets will be given to your group as they leave the coach.
