Due to a required minimum of 50-persons per bus, preregistration and pre-payment is necessary for bus tours/trips marked with asterisk (*). 5 Bus Tours, Added Information (See Bus Tour and Seminar Registration Information) Due to bus capacity limitations, pre-registration and pre-payment is necessary. Pre-registration checks should be made to RPRU2008. Mail before March 31, 2008 to: Janet L. Williams, 1210 South Washington St., Mexico, MO , Phone: , Wednesday, 06/11/08 Lunch with the Chef, at Reynolds Alumni Center 50 person limit, $45/each, must pre-register. Lunch will be followed by a Walking Tour of the University of Missouri-Columbia Campus Attendees will board a local school bus, at 11:00 a.m., at Boone County Fairgrounds, to ride to the Reynolds Alumni Center. Participants will be served a light lunch of chicken tortilla soup, pan-roasted salmon on salad with asparagus, and crepes with a strawberry Grand Marnier sauce. Upon request, a vegetarian dish will be available. While lunch is served, the chef will demo cooking two of the items served. Following the luncheon, attendees will have a guided tour of the University of Missouri-Columbia campus. At 3:30 p.m., board the bus to return the fairgrounds. Cost includes luncheon, tax, gratuity, and round-trip bus ride from/to the Boone County Fairgrounds. Beer, wine, or alcoholic drinks available at cash bar only. Thursday, 06/12/08 Bus tour areas of Fulton and Jefferson City 56 person limit, $60/each, must pre-register. Attendees will board an air-conditioned bus, with restroom, at 9:00 a.m., at Boone County Fairgrounds, for ride to Fulton, MO In Fulton they will tour the Winston Churchill Memorial, where Prime Minister Churchill made his famous Iron Curtain Speech, and the Wren Church, which was the church Prime Minister Churchill attended. The church was shipped to Fulton brick by brick, and rebuilt at the memorial site. At 11:00 a.m., board bus for ride to Jefferson City, MO Plans are to stop at Ryan s Cafeteria for an 11:30 a.m. buffet luncheon. After lunch, the group will again board the bus for a guided tour of the historic Missouri State Capitol, which includes a museum and the famous Thomas Hart Benton mural. Plans have also been made to tour the Missouri Governor s Mansion, the Mel Carnahan Gardens, and the Cole County Historical Society. While in this area, attendees might also want to visit the Jefferson Landing State Historic Site. At this site you will find the Lohman Building, which was built in the late 1830s, and the Union Hotel, which houses art exhibits at the Elizabeth Rosier Gallery. At 3:45 p.m., we board the bus and ride to Central Dairy, for a quick ice cream cone/treat before the return to Boone County Fairgrounds. Cost includes lunch, tour fees, tax, gratuity, and round-trip bus ride from/to the fairgrounds. Friday, 06/13/08 Bus to Arrow Rock, MO, and Arrow Rock Lyceum Theatre 56 person limit, $70/each, must pre-register. Attendees will board an air-conditioned bus, with restroom, at 12:30 p.m., at Boone County Fairgrounds, and ride to Arrow Rock, MO. Attendees can tour antique shops and other historical sites in Arrow Rock. After dinner at Arrow Rock Lyceum Theatre s wine and beer garden, they will attend a play at the theatre At the wine and beer garden, dinner costs will include one serving of wine or beer; additional drinks will be from the cash bar only. When the play has concluded, attendees will board the bus and return to the fairgrounds. Cost includes theatre ticket, meal at the wine and beer garden, tax, gratuity, and round-trip bus ride from/to the fairgrounds. Saturday, 06/14/08 Bus to Boonville, to DAR Missouri Headquarters 56 person limit, $40/each, must pre-register. Attendees will board an air-conditioned bus, with restroom, at 8:00 a.m., at Boone County Fairgrounds, and ride to Boonville, MO, in order to visit Roslyn Heights, the Missouri Daughters of the American Revolution State Headquarters. Attendees will attend the annual Missouri Daughters of the American Revolution annual picnic, which will include the opening Flag Day ceremony; the annual picnic (consisting of fried chicken, hot dogs, potato salad, baked beans, dessert, and drink); and a tour of Roslyn Heights. Bus will begin loading at 12:45 p.m., for a 1:00 p.m. return to Boone County Fairgrounds. Cost includes luncheon costs, tour cost, tax, gratuity, and round-trip bus ride from/to the fairgrounds. 6 2008 RPRU On-site Information for Women s Program (Schedule to be finalized by April 30, 2008.) With the exception of the Columbia Twilight Festival and the Isle of Capri Casino, all seminars shown below will be held on-site. Although walk-ins will be welcome, pre-registration is required for some of the presentations. For pre-registration, please list your individual choice/s; your name, address, address; and make check/s payable to RPRU2008. Mail before March 31, 2008 to: Janet L. Columbia Twilight Festival Thursday, June 12, a bus will begin loading at 5:00 p.m., and drive to downtown Columbia. Participants will be able to eat, shop, and walk around downtown Columbia, to enjoy the fellowship at Columbia s Twilight Festival. For the return trip to the fairgrounds, the bus will begin loading at 8:30 p.m. These times are semi-firm, yet will be adjusted as needed. Cost for the round-trip bus ride will be $5.00/each, and attendees should pre-register and submit payment. Creative Memories Scrapbooking - On-site scrapbooking will be done on both Thursday, June 12, and Saturday, June 14. Attendees should bring photos they would like to use to fill a scrapbook page - or several pages. (When going to my first session, I took pictures of my dog, my cat, my grandchildren, and my flowers, and completed a wonderful scrapbook page of my dog.) The representatives will assist attendees with ideas on how to crop, frame, and accessorize to create a scrapbook page. With pre-registration, the representatives will also supply a scrapbook page ($5.00/each) or a paper album ($15.00/each), along with added adornments needed to decorate the page/book. There may also be added products the attendee might want to purchase. In order to know how many scrapbook products will be needed, to create pages and/or paper albums, pre-registration is required. Hobby Lobby A representative will be on-hand to demonstrate their products. The Humane Society A local representative will come, with two adoptable animals. The representative will also talk about what you need to do to keep your pet safe, both at home and while traveling. Isle of Capri Casino According to interest, the Isle of Capri Casino will send their shuttle once or twice a day, to pick-up 20 people (first come/first served), for as many days there is interest. The bus will carry people back and forth to the casino, at no cost to the riders, as long as they spent 4-hours at the casino. Pick-ups would be at 11:00 a.m., and 4:00 p.m., starting Wednesday afternoon. Again, this is a first come/first served option. Please pre-register, with tours pre-registration contact, or sign up at the registration desk. Longaberger Baskets On Friday and Saturday, June 13-14, a Longaberger Basket representative will show her products. Products may be purchased during your visit to this area, including a 2008 basket. Mary Kay Makeup Session - Mary Kay representatives will assist participants in applying make-up, and give vital information for preserving your skin. In order to furnish presentation products, the Mary Kay representative will need preregistration with the tours pre-registration site. Michael s A representative will be on-hand for a demo of products. Pampered Chef On Friday and Saturday, June 13-14, a Pampered Chef representative will show her products. Although products may be purchased during your visit to this area, there will be no cost for visiting. Wool-Spinning On Friday, June 13, a wool-spinning demonstration and Shetland sheep display will be given. All walk-ins are welcome at this interesting demonstration. 7 Welcome to Missouri, the Show-me State - The 2008 RPRU will be held in Columbia, MO - Information shown below gives a few of the nearby sites/towns you can drive to, as a Day Trip. Amish Country From the fairgrounds, a driver would drive 18 miles north, on State Highway 63, turn east on State Highway 22, then turn north on State Road Y. A ten mile trip on State Road Y, will give you a chance to shop at some of the Amish shops in the area. A map will be available at the registration/tour desk. Arrow Rock - Attendees can tour antique shops and other historical sites in Arrow Rock. For those interested in attending a play at Missouri s oldest professional regional theatre, the Arrow Rock Lyceum Theatre There is also a wine and beer garden at the site. Boonville - In addition to the many old homes and shops to be toured, there is also gambling at the Isle of Capri Casino - Their shuttle will come to the fairgrounds at 11:00 a.m., and around 4:00 p.m., pick-up 20 people, and carry people back and forth to the casino. There is no cost to the riders, as long as they spent 4-hours at the casino. The casino also has a hotel. Branson Branson will be wonderful to visit, traveling to or from the. Fulton In Fulton they can tour the Winston Churchill Memorial, where Prime Minister Churchill made his famous Iron Curtain Speech, and the Wren Church, which was the church Prime Minister Churchill attended. The church was shipped to Fulton brick by brick, and rebuilt at the memorial site. Hannibal Hannibal is another of the mid-missouri historic towns that are wonderful to visit. Those interested in a tour of the Mark Twain Boyhood Home and Museum, could continue in his footsteps by exploring the Mark Twain Cave, or take a cruise on the Mark Twain Riverboat. Hermann Hermann is a wonderful German community where you can view the historic architecture or indulge yourself in one of the many wineries, restaurants, or specialty shops. You could also take a bike ride on the Katy Trail. Jefferson City You may take a guided tour of the historic Missouri State Capitol, which includes a museum and the famous Thomas Hart Benton mural. The Missouri Governor s Mansion, the Mel Carnahan Gardens, the Cole County Historical Society, and the Jefferson Landing State Historic Site are in this area. At Jefferson Landing you will find the Lohman Building, which was built in the late 1830s, and the Union Hotel, which houses art exhibits at the Elizabeth Rosier Gallery. A stop at the Runge Nature Center would also be worthwhile stop. Lake of the Ozarks The Osage Beach Outlet Mall offers shopping in many, many name brand shops. In addition to the mall, there are many specialty shops in the area. After a busy day shopping, fishing, or golfing in the Bagnell Dam, Lake of the Ozarks, or Osage Beach areas, you can enjoy a wonderful meal in one of the area restaurants. Mark Twain Lake A trip Mark Twain Lake and the Cannon Dam area is a wonderful way to spend a day fishing or swimming. Mexico Because Mexico was once known as the Saddlebred Horse Capitol of the World and the Refractories Capitol of the World, saddle horse and history buffs would enjoy a visit to the ante-bellum Graceland Museum, located at the Audrain County Historical Society - Rocheport - Rocheport is about 12 miles west of Columbia, you can visit some of the many attractions listed on the web-site. Bring your bike and ride along the Katy Trail, or simply walk along the trail and enjoy the scenery along the Missouri River. On a trip to the Les Bourgeois Bistro (Winery) - you could sit in the restaurant or gazebo, look out over the Missouri River, and enjoy a bottle of wine and a fine meal.
