2 The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. and adjourned at 10:40 p.m. 1. Approval of the Agenda The Mayor outlined the purpose of the Special Meeting to consider the Brampton 2040 Vision Living the Mosaic, and advised that, in accordance with the Procedure By-law, no new business could be added to the agenda. C Moved by Regional Councillor Moore Seconded by lor Bowman That the agenda for the Special Council Meeting of May 7, 2018 be approved as printed and circulated. Larry Beasley, Beasley and Associates, Planning Inc., provided a presentation entitled: Living the Mosaic Brampton 2040 Vision. 4 1. Antonietta Minichillo, Project Manager, Planning Vision 2. Larry Beasley, Beasley and Associates, Planning Inc. 4. Delegations 4.1. Delegations re: Brampton 2040 Vision Living the Mosaic. See Items 3.1, 5.1 and 6.1 Council agreed to vary the order of the delegations, to hear from the two youngest residents first. Twenty-one Brampton residents (including youth ranging in age from seven to 17), business owners, representatives from community organizations, business associations, advisory committees, and academia, provided their views, suggestions, questions and presentations on the Brampton 2040 Vision. The majority of delegations expressed overwhelming support for and excitement about the Brampton 2040 Vision, and expressed their views and questions on a number of topics, which included: sustainability and the environment, Environmental Master Plan, Brampton Trees Project, The Brampton Eco-Park Trust, renewable energy and energy efficiency future of Brampton Transit, including electric buses and additional rapid transit routes community engagement in the development of the Vision and consultation process going forward Ryerson University in downtown Brampton Centres for Innovation and Cybersecurity comparative analysis on economic impacts and infrastructure costs/ funding sources cycling as a sustainable method of moving people within and beyond the urban city diversity and social responsibility impact of arts and culture on Brampton s economy jobs and living centres On behalf of Council, the Mayor thanked the delegations, residents and interested parties for their comments and attendance at the meeting Page 4 of 8

6 The subject report was distributed prior to the meeting. Council consideration of this matter included: value of data collected through the Vision community engagement process current transit infrastructure and future transit needs timelines for implementation of the Vision suggestion that staff report twice annually on the status of implementation the Vision as a catalyst for community pride and involvement In response to questions from Council, Larry Beasley, Beasley and Associates, Planning Inc., provided information on the following: strategies for approaching and seeking funding from senior levels of government (Regional, Provincial and Federal) collaboration and co-designing opportunities for development and other projects (e.g. downtown and uptown living centres, parking locations) consistency of the Vision actions with Provincial Places to Grow requirements community involvement in the implementation of the Vision Council acknowledged and thanked Mr. Beasley, Antonietta Minichillo, Project Manager, Planning Vision, Corporate Leadership Team, and the Vision Team/Staff Teams, for their efforts in the development of the Brampton 2040 Vision. C Moved by Regional Councillor Moore Seconded by Regional Councillor Gibson 1. That the report from Antonietta Minichillo, Project Manager, Planning Vision, dated April 25, 2018, to the Special Council Meeting of May 7, 2018, re: Brampton 2040 Vision Living the Mosaic, be received; 2. That the Brampton 2040 Vision Living the Mosaic (the Vision), prepared by Larry Beasley and his team at Beasley and Associates, be endorsed; 3. That staff be directed to report back with strategies for implementation; and, 4. That a copy of the Brampton 2040 Vision and Council resolution be sent to the Region of Peel and other contributing Regional Agencies Page 6 of 8
