42 Conclusions for 30 yers of GIS experience Intensive definition of dt structures, bsed on the demnds of the institution, re very importnt. At present, we use dt structures, tht we build up 30 yers go, with minor modifictions. (Grphic) user interfces re non durble. Tody we do work with the sixth or seventh genertion since Prime Computers. If possible, we only implement the bsic functions of the ctul interfce. Thus we try to minimize the conflicts between fst developping informtion technology nd long-term ecologicl monitoring progrms with need for persistnt dt bses. Sn Diego,
