It is the biggest contest of picture books in the world. Entries are illustrations of books which have been published already. This exhibition displays many excellent works includes entries from Japan as well as two Japanese prize winning artists. 2

Kawara Museum (Takahama-shi, Aichi-ken) Take the Meitesu Mikawa Line to Takahama-ko Station and walk 10 minutes. 600 for high school students and older, free for junior high school students and under Aichi Arts Center - Raoul Dufy Retrospective A contemporary of Picasso and Matisse, Raoul Dufy is one of the famous French artists of the early 20 th century. He developed a colorful, fashionably decorative style with lively brushstrokes. This exhibition will display about 150 pieces from when he left his hometown of Le Havre in 1899 to his later years and will include oil paintings, prints, textiles, ceramics, and furniture. October 9 (Thu) December 7 (Sun) 10AM-6PM (8PM on Fridays) Closed on Mondays except for October 13, November 3 and 24. Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art, Aichi Arts Center (Higashi-ku, Nagoya) Take the Higashiyama or Meijo Subway Line to Sakae Station and walk 3 minutes for adults, 1100 for high school and university students, free for junior high school students and under Advance tickets are 1200 and 900 respectively Wabi-cha and its development Tea Ceremony Ware and Tools Wabi-cha is a form of Japanese tea ceremony associated with Sen no Rikyu. Beginning in the Muromachi period, it moved away from Chinese ware to appreciating local Japanese ware and simplicity. This exhibit explores the development of wabi-cha as well as the uniquely Japanese aesthetic and spirit within the beauty of the simple and incomplete shown in the wares and tools of tea ceremony. Through December 7 (Sun) 10AM-4PM Closed on Mondays Kuwayama Art Museum (Showa-ku, Nagoya) Take the Tsurumai Subway Line to Kawana Station and walk 8 minutes from Exit for adults, 300 for university, high school and junior high school students Tokusatsu Museum Museum Director, Hideaki Anno Tokusatsu is a genre of action TV shows and movies such as Godzilla, Ultraman, and the Power Rangers. With the help of Studio Ghibli, Hideaki Anno, the creator of the Evangelion series, has put together this exhibit of miniatures used various tokusatsu productions to look at the skills and techniques of the people who created these miniature sets. The exhibit will also feature the short film A God-Warrior appears in Tokyo. Festivals & Traditional Culture in Autumn Nagoya Festival The Nagoya Festival is a colorful parade featuring over 700 men and women dressed in clothing from the Samurai Ages. The Eiketsu gyouretsu is a parade held around Nagoya Castle that celebrates the 3 most famous heroes of this area. The events will also be held at Sakae s Oasis 21 and Hisaya-Odori Park, and will include Japanese songs and dances and various exhibits. Additionally, admission to Nagoya Castle, Higashiyama Zoo and Tokugawaen will be free of charge on Sunday, October 19 th. October 17 (Fri), 18 (Sat) and 19 (Sun) Parade course and start times: 18 th (Saturday) Start: Nagoya Station 1:40PM to Fushimi and Sakae 19 th (Sunday) Start: Shiyakusho (City Hall) 10:45AM to Sakae and Yaba-cho. The Sakae area (Naka-ku, Nagoya) Take the Higashiyama or Meijo Subway Line to Sakae Station おおすだいどうちょうにんまつり Osu Daido Chonin Matsuri - 大須大道町人祭 The Osu Daido Chonin Matsuri is a festival that features street performers from all over Japan. The performers will display their talents in the plazas and streets of Osu-kannon. There will also be a display called the Oiran Dochu, which is a parade centered on the Oiran and her escorts and assistants who will all be clothed in lavish kimono. October 10 (Fri), 11 (Sat) and 12 (Sun) The Osu shopping arcade (Naka-ku, Nagoya) Take Subway Tsurumai Line to Osu Kannon or Kamimaezu Station. 4

Reservations required. Admission includes a pack of oranges とうごくさん Togokusan Fruit Park Fall Festival - 東谷山フルーツパーク The Togokusan Fruit Park is a fruit agricultural park. There are many kinds of fruit trees, a tropical fruit greenhouse, fishing, and an exhibition area. There will be events including sales, cooking performances, juggling and games for children. You can also hike from the park to the top of Mt. Togoku, which is the tallest mountain (198.3m) in Nagoya city. Events Nagoya Marching and Baton Wave 2014 The "Nagoya Marching and Baton Wave is an event with about 2000 people of 23 marching bands and baton twirlers team from not only around Aichi prefecture but also from all over Japan. Why not drop by to watch the spectacular performances and listen to some exciting music? 1000 twirlers young and old will be perform in this special program. This month s movie is The African Queen starring Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn. It is famous as the residence of Dosan Saito and Nobunga Oda. Visit at night to enjoy the starry sky and 360 degree view from the castle tower. October 25 (Sat) and 26 (Sun) 10AM - 6PM Ginga-no-Hiroba at Oasis 21 (Naka-ku, Nagoya) Sakae Station on the Higashiyama or Meijo Subway Lines. Free 5. Walking in Autumn Walking courses around Nagoya Subway Stations This time of year is considered by many to be the best season for walking because of the spectacular sceneries with leaves turning vibrant hues of red and yellow. Below are a few walking courses organized around subway stations which will take you through notable sites, parks, temples and shrines in Nagoya. These walks are free and reservations are not required. You can pick up walking maps from the starting subway stations between 9:30AM and 11AM. Walking events will be held even if it rains. 8

9 October 4 (Sat) The walking course starts at the east ticket gate of Kurokawa Subway Station on the Meijo Line and ends at Ozone Station on the Meijo Line. (Approximately 9.3 km and 2 hours and 20 minutes) This course will take you to a brewery of Sake and enjoy tasting a sample. You can also visit Yamada Tenmangu Shrine known for enshrining of academic god, and more shrines. The final destination of the walking course is Ozone shopping district. October 26 (Sun) The walking course starts at the east ticket gate of Nagoya Dome-mae Yada Subway Station on the Meijo Line and ends at Motoyama Station on the Higashiyama Line. (Approximately 6.1 km and 1 hour and 30 minutes) The Nabeya Ueno water purification plant and Higashiyama water tower will be opened to the public in celebration of the 100th anniversary of water supply in Nagoya city. This course also bring you to the historic sites such as Kakuouzan Nittaiji temple, Yokiso Villa (admission required for some areas) and Shiroyama Hachimangu Shrine. November 1 (Sat) The walking course starts at the ticket gate of Aratamabashi Subway Station on the Meijo or Sakura-dori Line and ends at Yagoto Station on the Meijo or Tsurumai Line. (Approximately 8.2 km and 2 hours) This course goes along the Shiotsuke Kaido Road which used to be a main road in the old days to Yagoto. On the way, you will visit Nagoya City Museum, Tozanso Villa, Showa Museum and Koshoji Temple. 6.
