15 minutes walk to Mt.Komaki from Meitestu Komaki station. It is close to a bus stop, Komaki Shiyakusho-mae, on the Meitesu Bus or Komaki Loop Bus lines. Mt. Komaki is 85.

It is one of the symbolic places of Komaki City because it is the historical heritage site where Nobunaga Oda built his first castle on top of Komakiyama.

3 Welcome to Komaki City Mt.Komaki Introduction of Seasonal Events in Komaki Spring Komakiyama Cherry Blossom Viewing Festival When: Early April Where: National historic site Komakiyama Access: 15 minutes walk to Mt.Komaki from Meitestu Komaki station. It is close to a bus stop, Komaki Shiyakusho-mae, on the Meitesu Bus or Komaki Loop Bus lines. Mt. Komaki is 85.9-meter high mountain located in the west of Komaki City and covers an area of around 21hectares. It is one of the symbolic places of Komaki City because it is the historical heritage site where Nobunaga Oda built his first castle on top of Komakiyama. The Komakiyama castle had 3 layered stone wall at the slope below the main castle. Komakiyama appeared on the stage as a historical site in the battle of Komaki Nagakute. A Komkiyama cherry blossom viewing festival is held in the season when the ground of Mt. Komaki is dyed pale pink with cherry blossoms. The cherry blossom of Mt. Komaki is lit up at night during the festival. 1

Summer Komaki Heisei Natsu Matsuri (Summer Festival) When: End of July (the fourth consecutive two days, Saturday and Sunday in July) Where: Komaki Civic Hall and Melody Park Access: 5 minutes walk

Komaki Heisei Summer Festival features a giant, shining pictorial floats parade called the Andon Dashi Gyoretsu procession, like Aomori Nebuta. The largest float is 4 meters tall.

It originated from the festival featuring floats invented in order to make Komaki City more active, inspired by Yagumo Dashi Gyoretsu of Yagumo Town of Hokkaido, which is a friendship city of Komaki.

Though the Komaki Heisei Natsu Summer Festival started based from the traditional Nebuta festival, nowadays it has become such a unique festival that every group does a distinguished performance free

4 Summer Komaki Heisei Natsu Matsuri (Summer Festival) When: End of July (the fourth consecutive two days, Saturday and Sunday in July) Where: Komaki Civic Hall and Melody Park Access: 5 minutes walk to the Civic Hall from Meitetsu Komaki station. Melody Park is located at the side of Komaki station. Komaki Heisei Summer Festival features a giant, shining pictorial floats parade called the Andon Dashi Gyoretsu procession, like Aomori Nebuta. The largest float is 4 meters tall. They are pulled through the main streets between Civic Hall and Melody Park performing brilliant dance and music. It originated from the festival featuring floats invented in order to make Komaki City more active, inspired by Yagumo Dashi Gyoretsu of Yagumo Town of Hokkaido, which is a friendship city of Komaki. The more the festival is repeated, the more performing groups take part in the festival such as Yosakoi Naruko and Eisah, besides the Haneto dance which was inherited from Yagumo Town. Though the Komaki Heisei Natsu Summer Festival started based from the traditional Nebuta festival, nowadays it has become such a unique festival that every group does a distinguished performance free from convention. Akiba Matsuri (Festival) When: Saturday and Sunday close to August 20 of every year Where: Komaki Shinmeisha Shrine Access: About 8 minutes walk from Meitetsu Komaki Station. The Akiba Festival is an offering to Akibasha, which is one of the shrines belong to the precinct of Shinmeisha. It is a historical ritual ceremony originating in the Edo Period and has continued every year. It is famous for four multi-storied floats with Karakuri Ningyo, mechanical dolls, atop. The origin of this festival is not known, but it is said that it was a festival where people pray to Akiba Sanjakubo, the fire protecting deity, to protect the town from fire, since Akibasha worships Akiba Sanjakubo. The Dashi, the first float was dedicated by Naritaya Matahachi who lived in Nakamachi town in the Tenmei Period ( ). It is called Karako-sha. Since then the number of Dashi has been increased to four units; Karako-sha, Seio-sha, Yutori-sha and Seiobo-sha. All four Dashi are called Nagoya-model and are about 5 meter tall, about 2 meters wide and about 3 meters long. Once the festival started with Hiki-hajime on July 26, continued with Shingaku on the 27 and held the Main Festival on the 28 in the lunar calendar. The festival had been carried out for consecutive 3 days and nights in the old days. Now the festival is held on the Saturday and Sunday closest to August 20. Autumn Komakiyama Takigi-Noh and Komaki Nobunaga Yume-Yakai (Evening Party) When: Middle of September Where: Mount Komaki National Historic Heritage Site Park (Komaki Civic Hall in case of rain) Access: 15 minutes walk from Komaki Station on Meitetsu Komaki Line or close to a bus stop of Komaki Shiyakusho-mae on Meitetsu Bus or Komaki Loop Bus 2

Komaki Nobunaga Yume-Yakai (Evening Party) Komaki Nobunaga Yume-Yakai is held in Komakiyama, where Oda Nobunaga lived for four years, in the long autumn evening. It features mainly Takigi-noh performed on an open air stage, which is unique throughout the country. It also offers passionate flamenco dancing, live jazz on another stage, a bar area where you can enjoy a variety of food over wine, beer and cocktails, and healing & sweet-a cafeteria where you can enjoy Japanese-style confectionary as well as western-style confectionary, coffee and soft drinks. So you can enjoy the full moon and have a peaceful time. Winter Fukugonji-Akiba main temple: The barefoot over the fire walking ritual When: Second Sunday of December Where: Fukugonji-Akiba main temple, 5229 Okusa, Komaki City,Phone Access: 20 minutes walk after getting off at Komaki City Loop bus Okusa Hall bus stop or Meitetsu bus Nishibora bus stop. Fukugonji is one of the most famous temples and is a provincial head temple that has many branch temples of the Soto sect. Including the cultural assets of the city, the temple has a lot of rare and precious treasures such as a stupa hall, a golden statue of the great Goddess of Mercy, a incense burner with a sutra. In particular, the oldest Akiba main shrine in our country is well known for its fire walking ritual. Tagata Jinja Honen Matsuri (The Good Harvest Festival of Tagata Shrine) When: March 15th Where: Tagata Shrine, 152, Tagata-Cho, Komaki City, Phone Access: 5 minutes walk after getting off at Meitetsu Komaki line Tagata Jinja Mae station. Mitoshi-no-kami, a deity for good harvest and growth, and Tamahime-no-mikoto, a deity for having a child and easy delivery, are enshrined at Tagata Shrine. The Honen Matsuri is famous both at home and abroad. Men of a specific unlucky age shoulder a large ceremonial wooden phallus called Ōowasegata made of wood newly carved every year on a portable shrine in a huge procession. 3
