It takes about 2 hours from Narita airport to Katsuta station. There are two terminals in Narita Airport (Terminal 1 and Terminal 2).

2 Narita Airport to Katsuta station or Tokai station by bus It seems to be easier to take a highway bus than train, because less number of transit. Narita airport (A) and Katsuta station (B) are shown above map. The bus line is named as Rose Liner ( ローズライナー ). It takes about 2 hours from Narita airport to Katsuta station. There are two terminals in Narita Airport (Terminal 1 and Terminal 2). The arrival floor is 1F at the both terminals. You can find a highway bus ticket counter in the arrival area. You should buy a ticket before you take a ride (3,000 yen for Katsuta). If it is difficult to find it, please ask information (marked by? ) in the following terminal maps. 2

The next bus stop name will be announced by the driver or recorded voice. If you take a train from Narita Airport to Katsuta, you need to make some transits over some lines. It might make you confuse. Because many train companies run in the Tokyo metropolitan area. Even if Japanese, it is difficult without a help of route finder. Please ask station staff what is the best route and station name you need to make a transit. Or please find it by 3

4 Hotel Crystal Plaza The hotle is located in front of Katsuta station of JR (Japan Railway). The bus from Narita airport will arrived at West exit. You need path through the station to go to the hotel from the bus stop. View from the bus stop rotary (East exit of Katsuta Station) 4

5 Transportation between Hotel Crystal Plaza and J PARC We arranged a shuttle bus as the following. Please come to the lobby before the leaving time. You should take a taxi at the station. The cost is about 1200 yen. To enter the J PARC, we need to make a special arrangement because of it is a campus of Japan Atomic Energy Agancy (Security level is very high). If you will arrive during the school and have a plan to go to J PARC directory, please make a contanct to organizer. 5

Please go to the second floor and find a connecting bridge to Sendai Airport Station of the Sendai Airport Transit (shown by (A) in the above map). The last stop is Sendai Station (shown by (B) in the map). The time table is as the following. 6

7 You need to buy a train ticket (630 yen) before you pass the ticket wicket. The ticket is a magnetic card and you should keep during the train trip. Please put your ticket into the turnstile. At the Sendai Station, please go to the second floor and find a sign of 中央口 (Central entrance). You need to put your ticket into the turnstile at the ticket wicket and it will be collected by the machine. 7

710, 713, 715, 718, 719, 757, S609, for Kawauchi Hagi Hall depart from bus stop No. 9 around Sendai Station. It costs 180 yens and takes about 10 minutes.

8 Sendai Station to Kawauchi Hagi Hall by Bus The bus stop for the Kawauchi Hagi Hall locates west side of the Sendai Station. The following picture is the Sendai station building taken from west side and you can see bus stop. There are some lines to go to the Kawauchi Hagi Hal. Bus No. 710, 713, 715, 718, 719, 757, S609, for Kawauchi Hagi Hall depart from bus stop No. 9 around Sendai Station. It costs 180 yens and takes about 10 minutes. Get off at the bus stop 東北大川内キャンパス萩ホール前 (Touhoku dai Kawauchi Campus / Hagi hall mae: Tohoku University Kawauchi Campus and Hagi Hall). At bus stop No. 9, there are two queues. They are indicated by red and blue colors in the picture. (They are not really colored on the spot.) You can stand in either lines. Any line from bus stop No.9 will make a stop at the Touhoku dai Kawauchi Campus / Hagi hall mae. The red one is for Faculty of Natural Sciences (No. 719), and the blue one is for Faculty of Engineering (No. 710, 713, 715). You may look at the time table on the bus stop sign before standing in a queue. 8

9 When you get on the bus, do not forget to pick up a paper token shown on the right. The display inside the bus shows the next bus stop, but only in Japanese characters. The vocal announcement is also in Japanese only. For signaling to the bus driver that you want to get off, press an alighting button. If you do not have the exact amount of coins, exchange a 1000 yen note or a big coin for smaller coins, using the fare box before paying. A 2000 yen note or bigger cannot be exchanged. 10 Sendai Station to Kawauchi Hagi Hall by Taxi There is a taxi pool in front of Sendai Station. You may show the following sentence to a taxi driver to direct him or her to the Kawauchi Hagi Hall. 東北大学川内萩ホールまでお願いします (Kawauchi Hagi Hall made onegai shimasu). Typical cast by taxi from Sendai Station to Tohoku University Kawauchi campus might be less than 1000 yens. Beware of a big taxi (typically black). They cost twice the fare of a usual one. 10
