A total of 475 rooms have been blocked for the OAEA in the hotels selected by the reunion committee. Book early to insure a room of your choice. When booking, don t forget to mention that you are with the OAEA in order to insure the special room rates. The room rates cover the three days of the reunion, so if you come early and/or stay late the rates will be on a space available basis. See the enclosed hotel information sheet (page 4) for additional details on hotels with OAEA blocked rooms. Hotel rooms are subject to all city and state taxes. Hotel reservations should be made no later than 30 days before the reunion. Reservations made after 1 January 2005 will be subject to a space available basis. 1

2 T he Symposium/Reunion is being hosted by Jim Maddox and his reunion committee consisting of Bob Gaboury and Harry Heverley. Conveniently located you can enjoy shopping, dining and much more. The hotels allow easy access to many area attractions such as the Seabee Museum, area beaches and the downtown business district. All hotels are within three miles distance from the PACC. Directions to the hotels and the PACC from Interstate 5 are included in the enclosed City of Oxnard Visitors Center brochure. There will be a pre-registration fee of $85.00 for singles, $ for couples and $30.00 for dinner guests. This is in addition to the cost of hotel accommodations which are payable direct to the hotel. Checks made payable to the OAEA SYMPOSIUM should be mailed to Bob Gaboury no later than December 1, (See the reunion registration form on page 5. of this bulletin for additional details.) Due to space limitations, the OAEA Board of Directors has made the decision to restrict attendance of the OAEA Sponsored portions of the reunion to dues-paid members of the OAEA only. There is an OAEA Membership application enclosed (page 7) if you are not currently a dues paid member. Please complete it and send it with a check made payable to OAEA to the address indicated on the application. It is not the same as the reunion registration form. T he schedule of activities will include one special reunion evening dinner, to be held on January 28 at the PACC. At this time a caterer for the dinner has not been selected, but will be announced at a later date. The total cost of the reunion dinner, including sales tax, and gratuity, is included in the pre-registration fee. Any attendee requiring a special dietary menu should contact the POC prior to October 1, We plan to have a raffle as part of our after-dinner festivities. One person s white elephant may be what another person is looking for. Donations suited for the raffle would be appreciated. It is desired that donated items be related to the Antarctic, but any appropriate item will be welcome. Attendees who want to enhance their historical or cultural knowledge of the area may want to consider visiting one or more of the following points of interest: Civil Engineer Corps & Seabee Museum World War II Aviation Heritage Museum Ronald Reagan Presidential Library & museum Ventura County Maritime Museum Channel Island National Park Whale Watching Carnegie Art museum Chumash Casino Presentations by guest speakers are planned. Registration will be in the PACC. Attendees will be issued nametags and Welcome-Aboard bags. The reception room will be located in the PACC and will be the center of operations for information, OAEA sales, cold drinks and informal talks. Check the bulletin board for messages and late breaking news. Bring your Deep Freeze memorabilia to the reception room Cruise Books, photos, slides, VHS tapes, DVDs, CDs, books, records anything at all that you want to talk and brag about. The reception room should be a place to break the ice, so to speak, take care of current business and to rejuvenate memories and renew friendships with old shipmates. Members of the reunion committee and volunteers will be on hand to answer questions and offer other assistance. 2

3 Y our Welcome-Aboard bag will include a list of attendees and a detailed schedule of events, in addition to other assorted goodies. If you have not done so already, please let Bob Gaboury know when your plans to attend are firm. We need to know numbers for planning purposes. This is especially true for those who will not be staying at any of the reunion hotels. T R A N S P O R T A T I O N have reserved 16 spaces at Port Hueneme and 35 spaces at Point Mugu for the OAEA. Registration Desk and Reception Room will be open from 1600 until 2200 for informal gatherings. Don t stand on formality. Introduce yourself and start exchanging ice stories. Beware; you may not recognize your old shipmates. Tables will be available for display of limited personal memorabilia. Open evening. Check your Welcome-Aboard bag for dinner specials. Thursday 27 January: Transportation by rail to Oxnard is available by Amtrak and terminates at the Oxnard Transportation Center.
