5 Mary Calorio President, MMHLA From the President: Summer s here & the time is right - to look forward to the Southern Lodging Summit! I hope each and every one of you had a wonderfully Happy Fourth of July!!! A big thank you to each of our military personnel who have contributed to our safety and security, and who protect our great land--the good old USA!!! Please don t ever forget our Vets, and the sacrifices that they have made so we can continue to enjoy our freedom! Personally, I am married to a Marine Vet, (once a Marine, ALWAYS a Marine) so I can tell you from firsthand knowledge that you and I do not start to understand and appreciate the physical and mental challenges that our Vets face after returning home from a combat tour. So, patience, support and gratitude to each of our Vets during this special holiday! I hope that each of you were able to watch the numerous fireworks shows, eat a little bar-b-que, kick back, sip a little tequila, and just enjoy this wonderful holiday. (Too often we go at such a fast pace, we really forget to enjoy life.) Wow! What a great golf tournament we had this year. Thanks to each of our sponsors, teams, and volunteers whose help and support made this tournament such a success! I did beat Wayne Tabor s tail in selling tickets for our raffle!! So that only proves that the little dog can take on the Big Dog and WIN! The winner of the LG flat screen TV that Bob Cox donated was the Memphis Restaurant Association. Congratulations, MRA on your win, and thank you to all who purchased a raffle ticket. Our Southern Lodging Summit will be held August 23 and 24. It promises to be bigger and better than ever, and if you have not registered, please do so now. During the Summit this year, we are continuing our live and online auctions to support our PAC. If you are able to donate an item/package/ goods/ or services to our association to be auctioned, please or call Peggy or myself as soon as possible. All items for the auctions are donated and the proceeds benefit our PAC. We will gladly accept all items, of any size, and of any value. Peggy needs your items, certificates, descriptions, etc., in hand before we advertise them on the auction board. She needs everything by July 15 or earlier if at all possible. If you have any questions, or need assistance, please or call Peggy or myself. This fall and next year are very important political years, and we need a strong PAC to ensure the best interest of our industry. I am also asking that each of you help us publicize the auction put a letter with the link on your employee bulletin board, send the link to your friends and family, ask your vendors and associates to visit and bid, and lastly you--bid! You can buy an item as a gift for your children/grandchildren or other family members, as a happy for your outstanding employee of the quarter, as an incentive for that top sales person, or just another reason to share some time with someone that you care about. Thank you for reading my editorial, and I really appreciate the comments that I receive. (When I first started this, I wondered if anyone even read it.)
