He has authored/coauthored many refereed articles in academic journals in both hospitality and architectural fields. In 2009, he obtained School s Excellent Research Award. Prior joining The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, he served various international hotel chains Accor, Hilton, Furama and Crowne Plaza. He involved in four hotel projects planning and pre-opening, prepared feasibility study about resort hotel and had substantial experience in hotel operations- finance, human resource and front office. His station experience in the hospitality industry included Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing and London. Besides, Dr. Chan had participated actively in the Chinese restaurant sector. These include his over 12-year professional services in the Association of Restaurant Managers, consultancy for the Employee Retraining Board about Chinese restaurants, and a number of researches in Chinese catering area. More recently, the Hong Kong government appointed him as an advisor of the Chinese catering qualification framework committee.
