2 Greetings, We are excited to welcome you to the Cub Scout Family Camporee at Indian Mound Reservation. My name is Quinn Ryan and I will be your host for this event. If you need to speak with me before the start of the event please call or me at quinn.ryan@scouting.org and I would be happy to answer questions or take comments. Camping is a very important part of the Scouting program, it builds physical and mental strength, allows boys and girls to practice outdoor skills and builds a connection to the natural world. We are looking forward to participating in all sorts of fun events with you and your Cub Scouts this weekend! Within this Guide you will find lots of information on the program areas we are offering, schedule of events and other various housekeeping type information to help make your weekend as fun and enjoyable as possible. We have worked hard to make sure that we provide your Cub Scouts and you a wonderful experience, but please remember accept for me and a very few people on camp this weekend, we are all unpaid volunteers donating our time to help make your Cub Scout program more exciting! We are thrilled to do this, but at times we may need your help in making it just a little better. As Lewis and Clark set out on an expedition into the unknown we too will embark this weekend on a journey of excitement and adventure, even though we have a been idea of where we are headed! 3 Check In The Check In process will begin on Friday, April 27 th at 5:00pm through 8:00pm. Please plan to arrive at Indian Mound Reservation between those times. You will check in at the Administration Building which is the first building on your right as you come into camp. At that check point you will receive any updates to the Leader s Guide, your Den assignment, Cabin assignment and your dining hall shift. You will also receive your patch and hat at that time as well. The first scheduled event is at 8:00pm when you will be in the Dining Hall for a welcome and opening. The Leader s Meeting will also be at that time. Your unit will have to elect a Den Leader for the weekend that will help you get information you need to enjoy the weekend. Please note that we do have check in times. I understand that everyone is trying to get out of our area and the traffic, work and preparations can slow you down. Please don t worry too much about when you will arrive. However, it is important to have at least a few adults in attendance for the Leaders Meeting at 8:00pm in the Dining Hall to get last minute information and updates. When you check in you will need a UNIT ROSTER w/emergency Contacts I have attached one for you to use, but if your unit already has one that is preferable. When you arrive please check in with us at the Office. You will receive your cabin or campsite assignment at that time. Please stay in the cabin to which you are assigned. Cabin Disclaimer In the past we have had individuals switch cabins and take beds reserved for others please, please, please stay in the cabin to which you were assigned. We had to split most units to make the numbers work right but EVERY CABIN CAMPER HAS AT LEAST ONE OTHER FAMILY FROM THEIR UNIT WITH THEM, unless you were a single family attending as Cabin Campers. We did this so that every family at least has one familiar family with them while staying this weekend. The other thing to note is that the cabins are really just for sleeping and most of your time will be spent out doing all the great activities that you signed up for. Housekeeping First and foremost, at any camp out Scouts are clean! Many of you will be staying in Cabins, below you will find Indian Mound Reservation s (IMR) check in and check out procedure. We will have several Camp Commissioners to help you through this process but our highest principal when it comes to cleanliness is to Leave it Cleaner that you found it and we expect all of our Scouts and Scouters live by that creed this weekend. That also means out on the trails and in the dining hall please take a moment wherever you on to look around and pick up any garbage or left behind jackets, water bottle, etc. The came and the environment will thank you! If you have questions on any of the housekeeping expectations please don t hesitate to ask your commissioner or find someone at the camp office.

4 Three Harbors Council Boy Scouts of America Year-Round Camp Policy and Guidelines Please review this information prior to your arrival at camp. Detailed information and policy acceptance will be provided when you check-in. 1. The Scout Oath and Law must be the standards for moral personal behavior in camp. 2. Every unit or group must have two-deep leadership at all times while on any activity. At least one leader must be at least 21 years of age. The others must be at least 18 years of age. 3. All liquid fuels must be kept in a locked area while your group is in camp. 4. Firearms, fireworks or large hunting knives may not be brought to camp. A knife must fold. 5. Discipline of each group is the responsibility of the adult leader in charge. Individuals should respect the camping areas of others and enter only with permission. 6. Cutting of trees without camp ranger s permission is prohibited. 7. No driving or parking on grass. 8. Pets are not allowed in camp. 9. No firewood may be brought into camp. Firewood can be made available if needed. 10. Gambling is not allowed in camp. 11. Alcoholic beverages and illegal drugs may not be brought to camp (national policy). 12. Tobacco products may only be used in designated area and out of view of any youth. 13. All Boy Scouts of America guidelines for co-ed camping must be followed. 14. A $15.00 fee will be charged for any and all missing keys. 15. All groups must check out with the campmaster or camp ranger before departing camp. Failure to meet any of the above may result in the group being asked to leave council property and forfeit all fees paid. Non-Scout groups are responsible for their own accident insurance.

5 Cabin Cleanup Please Note: Cabin Cleaning Supplies 1 push broom, 1 dust pan, 1 mop bucket & strainer, 1 toilet brush, and 1 toilet plunger. Please clean sinks, counters, floors, and toilets with cleaning supplies provided. Clean floors by vacuuming or sweeping and mopping with HOT water and Pine Sol. Make sure to change water a few times depending on the size of cabin. Please mop thoroughly. Refrigerator must be cleaned at least one hour before leaving. Fireplace must be completely cleaned and all firewood removed from building. No firewood is to be left on the porch, due to ice build up. Garbage pick up is when you check out. Bags must be removed from garbage cans and placed outside on the porch. For LNC campers, please bring trash to the trash bins by the warehouse. Garbage cans must be washed out with Pine Sol and HOT water. Hints for cleaning: 1. Remove all personal equipment from building. 2. Anyone not on cleanup crew should go outside. 3. Clean sleeping area, then bathroom, kitchen, and hall or front entrance room. 4. Bring in doormat and place in front of doors on inside of building. It takes a lot of time, money, and work to maintain these cabins. Your help is greatly appreciated by those who take care of the cabins and by those who use the cabin next. 6 Suggested Packing List Below is a suggested packing list for the weekend. Please use your best judgement in packing for your family over the course of the weekend. Most of the participants are staying in cabins, making the need for specialized camping equipment unnecessary. That being said the cabins are NOT the Holiday Inn! Check out the suggested list of items to bring: Appropriate Clothing for the Weather (layers are good!) o EXTRA Socks (you can never have too many socks) Outerwear for the weather Gloves Sleeping Bag or Blankets Knit Hat (both for outdoors and for sleeping) Personal toiletries Towel 2 Extra Rolls of Toilet Paper Backpack Water bottle Close toed shoes/boots Flashlight or Headlamp Pen and Paper Cards or other Board Games Marshmallow Roasting Stick

7 Program and Administrative Areas on Camp Located in this Guide you will find a map to reference the locations that are talked about in this section. This list is not necessarily an exhaustive list of the locations we might make use of this weekend but it is as complete a list as we can get a month out. Additions to this Guide may be made in the course of the month and we will supplement the information for you upon arrival. Administrative Building This is where you will check in and check out during the weekend. It is the first building you will come to as you enter IMR (Indian Mound Reservation) you can t miss us! Please check in here first on arrival and make it your last stop as a unit on your way out! This is also the location where we can call for first aid, where lost Cub Scouts should be retrieved and where general questions can be answered throughout the day. Dining Hall The Dining Hall is where we will eat all of our meals, convene for the Leader s Meeting on Friday night and use as a backup in case of inclement weather for our Campfire. You will visit this location the most throughout the weekend! The area where we do Morning and Evening Flag is also just outside this location. Climbing Tower/Gaga Pit Area This area is just to the south of the Administrative Building and a stop along the Trail. Here you can climb the cliffs along the mighty Missouri River, just like Lewis and Clark would have. You can also play a game of gaga ball with your Den while you wait for others to climb the wall. Fat Tire Bike Area Ride this mechanical horse along the trails of IMR. There are smaller and larger bikes depending on your Cub Scouts size and skill and also a few bikes for parents to get involved! Water Rockets Load the bow canon of the keel ship that transported Lewis and Clark across the Great Plains! Pump the water rocket and launch it as far as you can. Landship Current program unknown Fun Bowl (fire bowl) Learn all of the great songs we will sing at Day Camp, build a fire and practice a skit. This area is a great for learning a few things for your next Pack Meeting! Castle/Fort Indian Mound The Castle has been converted this year into Fort Indian Mound, just like Lewis and Clark who had to overwinter along the coast of the Pacific you will have to hunt and gather items for your return trip back!

8 Archery/BBs Finding food in the Great Plains was very important during the expedition and those that had a good shot where cheered by their fellows! Practice your aim and become a crack shot to help your party out along the trail. Rock Throw Many of the members of the expedition had great throwing arms they would use to great effect. See how accurate you can be with hand tossed stones at the rock range. Rope Bridge At times the adventurers on the Plains would come to chasms or rivers they had to cross, navigate your way across the Rope Bridge to continue along the trail. Crafting Parties crossing the frontier would have to mend a lot of their own equipment while on the trail. Learn to craft items that will help you through your journey across the frontier. Beep Ball We all have things we have to overcome, some more substantial than others. At the Beep Ball Station Cub Scouts will see what it is like to have to use other senses to play a game of baseball. This area is sponsored by our Special Needs Committee to help educate our Scouts on the challenges that others face.

9 Dining Services All meals will be served in the Dining Hall. We will serve a Cracker Barrel on Friday Night before the Leader s Meeting that will consist of snacks and drinks. It is NOT a full meal or a substitute for dinner. We serve Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner on Saturday and these meals will be served Family Style. You will receive your seating assignment when you arrive at camp. On Sunday morning we offer a grab and go option for breakfast consisting of continental-style offerings of pastries, fruit and juices. Our volunteer kitchen crew has worked hard to make the menu as allergy and dietary restriction free as possible but we cannot currently guarantee a dining hall free of all allergens. Please consult us if you have specific allergy requirements. Our current menu is: Friday Cracker Barrel Deli Meats Cheese Crackers Cookies Sat. Breakfast Sat. Lunch Sat. Dinner Sunday Breakfast Scrambled Eggs Chicken Patty Baked Pasta Yogurt with Cheese Tater Tots w/meat Sauce Cereal Bars Sausage Fruit Garlic Bread Fruit Cinnamon Roll Cookies Brownies Assorted Fruit Lemonade Mixed Veggies Pastries Milk Juice Cereal Due to the volume of participants this year we will be shift-eating or eating in 2 separate shifts in the dining hall. You will be placed in one of these shifts and units will eat together.

10 A note on scheduling: Schedule All schedules are subject to change based on needs of groups and availability of resources. In order to facilitate a complete Cub Scouting experience, we ask that you stay to your schedule. Almost all of our program areas have a 30-minute time block which is really fast, and we acknowledge that, the intent of scheduling you for each area is to get an opportunity to experience it all and to give everyone else the same opportunity. Each group is given an additional 30 minutes at each of the follow locations: Archery, BBs and Climbing Wall because we know they are not only exciting and fun places but also the time it takes to get Cub Scouts organized around these activities is longer than most of the other program areas. Please help our volunteer staff focus the Cub Scouts when they arrive in each area. You will also have to move out of each area fairly quickly and keep moving along to trail. If for some reason your group is falling behind or you are struggling with the pace please let us know, we can help to alleviate that with an earlier departure to get you back on schedule or just to catch your breath. It is designed to be a lot but we know you will have a ton of fun. You will be placed into Dens (most of your Den will be your home Unit) and you will rotate through by Dens to each of the program areas. Some of the Dens will start earlier to make sure you get the full experience of the program area. You will be assigned to your Den and receive your Shift Dining Schedule when you Check In at camp on Friday. You also each receive a customized schedule for your weekend based on your Den, you will receive that at Check In.

13 Commissioners We will have commissioners throughout the camp to help guide you where you need to go. They also help facilitate the check in and check out process for you. They will be in bright red hats throughout the camp and they are happy to help answer questions you have. They also carry radios to help get information around the camp quickly. If you need assistance or need to get in touch with camp management please find a commissioner and ask for help. Cub Scout Day Camp Staff This lovable group of young people are the staff that we employ during the summers to provide your scouts with the Day Camp Program at Camp Oakarro. This weekend they are developing their skills to better serve your Cub Scouts at Day Camp. They are also volunteering their time to get better at their jobs so give them a big thank you if they are doing a good job. You can also let Nicole or Quinn know if you have any other feedback in general about the staff conduct, we are always trying to improve their skills and confidence in their roles. Ma-Ka-Ja-Wan Scout Reservation Staff This group of hearty individuals is our resident Boy Scout Camp s seasoned staff. They are ready to help you at a moment s notice! We like to believe that they have the Right Stuff when it comes to Scout Camp so engage with them about Akela Camp our Webelos Only Resident Camp at Ma-Ka-Ja-Wan Scout Reservation. Check Out Process Once the weekend has ended each cabin will be responsible for general cleaning of the cabins, that means sweeping up, putting trash out and generally tidying up the space. Those of you in campsites will have to make sure coals are out from any campfires and that trash is picked up and tent stakes pulled up. Once you are ready to check out as a cabin please come to the office and we will send someone to help check you out. After that you are free to go! A grab and go breakfast has been provided for you to grab on your way out, or right before you start cleaning your call!
