1 Dear Camp Kid Time Parents/Guardians, Recreation & Community Services 61 Durant Terrace Middletown, CT Main office Camp Kid Time Welcome to a fun and safe summer at Middletown Recreation. The office staff and our summer recreational staff are looking forward to meeting your child and making your child s experience a memorable one, filled with good times while we renew old friendships and make new ones. We will be located at Lawrence Elementary School on Kaplan Drive ~ please enter the building through the Cafeteria doors on the left side of the building if you are dropping off your children. We offer seven weeks of summer camp starting June 19 th until August 4 th. There is no camp on Tuesday, July 4 th. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Rose Carlson and I will be the director of Kid Time this summer. I have worked for the Middletown Board of Education as a Paraprofessional for 17 years and I am currently working at Bielefield School. I have worked for Middletown Recreation for the past 15 years, in which, the last 11 years I have served as the director of Camp Kid Time. Below I ve included some important information and helpful hints: Weekly Schedule: All schedules are available on line at

2 Lunches and Snacks: As of right now, we do not have a lunch program provided this summer. Please be sure to pack a lunch, snack and drink for your child daily. If and when your child s camp site is provided for with the lunch program you will be notified. Campers may have a late morning snack during a break from our program. Lunch will be refrigerated, unless we are on a field trip. On field trips please pack lunches with an ice pack. We encourage campers to bring their own water bottles. They may carry them around all day to keep themselves hydrated. Field Trips and Swimming: Your child will be provided with a Park and Rec yellow T-shirt that should be worn on field trip days only. T-Shirts must be worn on field trips so that our campers are easily identifiable in crowded off-site areas. We travel off site twice a week, once for a field trip and once for swimming at Veteran s Memorial Pool. When we go swimming at Vet s Pool your child does NOT need to wear their field trip shirt. Every Monday we will spend the afternoon at Vet s Pool. Children can wear their swimsuits to camp under their clothes, but we do suggest a change of clothes. Please be sure to pack a labeled towel and sunscreen. Vet s Pool does not allow any goggles and requires that all floatation devices are Coast Guard approved. All campers are swim tested and each group is monitored by lifeguards and camp staff at all times. Please bring a labeled bottle of sunscreen, we do NOT provide any! Personal Items: Please provide a labeled book bag for your child to bring to camp every day. No electronics, games, cards or money should be brought to camp. We are not responsible for any lost or stolen items. We have a lost and found area at camp. Parent Transportation Please do not drop off participants at camp before 8:55 AM and please pick them by 3:00 PM sharp. If anyone else is picking up your child that is not on the registration form we must have a note indicating who is picking up your child; when that individual comes to pick up your child they must provide a valid photo I.D. There is a sign-out sheet for all parent pick-ups that needs to be signed when taking your child home from camp. Clothing: During the day, your child will be participating in many fun group activities both inside and outside. Comfortable, play clothes are recommended and as a safety precaution sneakers must be worn every day. Please also bring a labeled bottle of sunscreen for daily use. Rules: Inappropriate behavior cannot be tolerated. Respect yourself, other campers, and all staff! Keep your hands, feet, objects and belongings to yourselves.

3 Treat others as you want to be treated. No swearing, put-downs or bullying. Consequences: Verbal warning and/or a phone call home If a child misbehaves or endangers themselves or others he will receive a disciplinary action form that will be sent home for a parent s signature. A signed copy must be returned camp in order for your child to attend camp. If a child receives three write-ups they will be suspended from camp for the duration of the summer. If any participant displays unsafe behavior at camp, they may be suspended from off-site activities. A child may be suspended immediately for a serious behavior incident without a refund. 7 Every summer we raise money for various charities. Last year campers raised $350 for Trees of Honor in Veteran s Memorial Park. We have raised money for Special Olympics, Penguin Plunge, Amazing Grace and the Trees of Honor. This summer Recreation has chosen The Warm the Children program. Last year 785 needy children in the greater Middletown area received up to $80 worth of new winter clothing through Warm the Children. Warm the Children is run entirely by volunteers. Individual donations, some generous grants as well as a partnership with the Middletown Press, Middletown Chronicle & the Travelers Championship-Birdies for Charity event enabled us to raise $60,000 for the upcoming season. 100% of the donations received will be used to purchase new clothing for more than 750 children this season!
