1 2017 CAMP SHORELINE SUMMER CAMP PARENT/CAMPER INFORMATION GUIDE WELCOME TO CAMP SHORELINE! This handout contains all the information you need to prepare your child for their first day at camp. If you have any questions, please contact us at , What is Camp Shoreline Like? Camp Shoreline is a fun, high energy, fast paced weekly themed camp packed with a variety of large and small group activities including games, sports, crafts and lots of outdoor playtime. Kids 7-12 at Spartan Recreation Center go swimming daily at the Shoreline Pool while kids at Highland Terrace spend extra time exploring creative activities with an emphasis on teamwork. Our Outdoor Camp The OC at Hamlin Park and The Beach has plenty of nature based activities in addition to games, sports, arts and crafts. We are excited to have your child spend some of their summer with us. It is important these numbers are accurate and complete in your account. In case of an emergency, please call the Spartan Recreation Center at (206) for all sites. Staff will get ahold of Directors.
2 Illness/Injury, Allergy or Medication Needs: Illness/Injury If your child is ill, please do not bring him/her to camp. If they become ill or injured during camp we will notify you immediately, and if serious we will call 911. In the case of an upset stomach your child might just need to rest and in other cases we might need to ask you to come pick up your child. In the event of a minor injury a parent/guardian will be notified. Medications / Allergies Campers may bring medications to camp but are responsible for holding on to and administering their own medication including Epinephrine Auto-Injectors (EA-I). If your child has a prescription for an EA-I please fill out the attached Authorization Form and turn it in to the Camp Director. Campers will keep their EA-I in their backpack and keep their backpack with them at all times. Staff will place a yellow identification tag on the backpacks of campers with an EA-I. Weekly Schedule Information: A schedule for Camp Shoreline will be ed to all registered parents the week before camp starts. The Weekly Schedule is also posted on our webpage HERE IS A SAMPLE OF AN AVERAGE DAY AT CAMP SHORELINE 8 9 am 9-9:30 am 9:30-10 am 10-11:30 am 11: :30pm 2:30-3:45pm 4pm Camp Check -In Campers play Games & Activities. Camp Rally Camp rules, camper introductions and daily schedule with opportunity for campers to offer input. Active Games Games to get us moving around or icebreakers to get to know eachother better. Themed Activity Activity based on the week s theme. Often involves group activities or learning new skills. Lunch & Recess Group games, art activities, sports & fitness, field trip or performer. Age 7+ SRC Swimming All Other Camps Games, art, sports, and other activities. Camp Check- Out Download your camper s weekly camp schedule at: What to Wear: Tennis shoes/sneakers: Your child will be playing games like kickball. For safety we ask them to wear shoes with a covered toe that they can easily run in. Please no sandals or flip-flops. Play clothes: Please dress your child in clothes that you do not mind getting dirty. We have many outside adventures and hands-on projects planned each day. Jacket or Sweatshirt: We play outside a lot. Please bring a jacket or outer layer for your child to stay warm and dry.
3 What to Bring to Camp: A sack lunch, snack and drink daily: There is no refrigerator or microwave for campers to use. Campers are NOT allowed to use the vending machines during any of our camps. Campers signed up for aftercare are provided a snack during aftercare. We regularly have campers with severe peanut allergies and request that campers do not bring peanut products to camp. Bring a water bottle: We play outside a lot! There is a drinking fountain at each facility. We do not supply cups, so your child will need their own water container. Sunscreen and Sun Protection: Bring appropriate SPF sunscreen for your child. Please apply sunscreen generously before camp and provide your child any hats, sunglasses or clothing needed for protection from the sun. Counselors are not permitted to put sunscreen on the campers. For Activity & Swim, Sport & Swim Camps at Spartan Recreation Center Swimsuit and towel: All campers in these camps are expected to swim every day. Lil Playground Pals Campers (Ages 4-6) at ALL locations A change of clothing is strongly encouraged for our 4-6 year old playground pals. What NOT to bring: Valuables: No toys, games (including cards), electronics (including I-Pods, cell phones) or money to camp. Dropping Off/Picking Up: For the safety of your child we require adults present to check in or sign out their children at the camp desk. Do not drop off your child in the front of the building. At the end of the day signing out takes time as staff are giving parents updates on their camper's day. Only authorized parents/guardians may pick a camper up. If someone else is picking up your child, you re required to notify the camp director. Staff cannot release a child without your permission. Spartan Recreation Center 202 NE 185th St 4-6 years old: Olympic Room Activity and Swim: Cascade Room Sport and Swim: Gym After Care: Cascade Room Highland Terrace School 100 N. 160th St. 4-6 years old: Classroom (park in back parking lot) 7-9 years old: Gym (park in back parking lot) After Care: Gymnasium (park in back parking lot) OC at Hamlin Park th Ave NE yr old: Picnic Shelter (park in second lot) OC at The Beach 2021 NW 190 th St. Richmond Beach Saltwater Park years old: Picnic Shelter (by beach) Drop Off Time: Camp starts at 8:00am. Please be sure your child is dropped off by 8:30am so they can be present for our daily overview and camp rules. If they will be dropped off later, please call to notify staff. Camp might have moved to another room or outdoor location. Pick Up Time: Camp ends at 4:00pm. Please be sure your child is picked up by 4pm. If you will be picking up before 3:30pm, please call to notify staff. If you need to pick up your child later than 4pm, please register for After Care (available 4-6pm).
4 SPECIAL NOTE FOR PARENTS OF 7-12 YEAR OLDS AT SPARTAN RECREATION CENTER No pickups of 7-12 year olds are allowed between 3:30-3:50pm. Campers are transitioning from the pool back to the Recreation Center. Please wait at the Spartan Recreation Center and your child can be picked up at 3:50pm. If you need to pick up your child between 2:30-3:30pm please call to coordinate with staff. Late Fees: The following late fees are charged for late pickup of campers: minutes late (4:10-4:15) = $15 late fee per child per day minutes late (4:16-4:30) = $30 late fee per child per day minutes late (4:31-4:45) = $45 late fee per child per day minutes late (4:46-5:00) = $60 late fee per child per day. After we notify you, a fee will be automatically added to your account and can be paid at the customer service desk at the Spartan Recreation Center or by calling customer service at To avoid late fees, please pick your child up on time. We all appreciate it. Behavior Guidelines: It is our goal for your child to have a fun and positive experience at Camp Shoreline. In order to maintain a fun and positive environment in our camp programs, at Camp Shoreline we emphasize: C - Cooperation with staff and others. A - Acting responsibly and safely. R - Respecting yourself and others. E - Encouraging each other. Our staff will go over these CARE guidelines with campers at the beginning of each week. Campers who do not follow guidelines or behave in other inappropriate ways will be given a verbal and then written warning. We ll share with you if your child has had any warnings. After 2 written warnings of a reoccurring incident, you and your child may be asked to sign a behavior contract to help the child understand the consequences of their actions. After 3 written warnings or in the case of excessive inappropriate or dangerous behavior, your child may be sent home and possibly asked not to return to camp for the week or longer. Field Trips: Occasionally we go on walking field trips to local parks or nearby locations. At the beginning of the camp week you may be asked to sign a Field Trip Permission Form, giving us permission to take your child off site. Children without signed permission slips will stay at the camp location with a staff. Special Needs: Camp Shoreline will provide reasonable accommodations to campers with special needs upon request. A reasonable accommodation is assistance provided to aid a camper with special needs with their participation in camp activities. Requests for assistance or reasonable accommodations can be made by contacting the Spartan Recreation Center at at least three weeks prior to starting camp. The City of Shoreline also offers summer camps specifically for youth and teens ages 6-17 with developmental disabilities. For information, please the Spartan Recreation Center at

CITY OF SHORELINE PARKS, RECREATION AND CULTURAL SERVICES 2017 Epinephrine Auto-Injector Authorization and Waiver of Liability Nature of Allergy: Name of Child: Parent/Guardian Name and Contact Information: Prescribing Doctor Name and Contact Information: I confirm that by signing this form I have read, understand, and agree with the below Authorization and Waiver of Liability. I acknowledge that my child understands his/her allergies and how to take reasonable precautions to avoid the allergens. I have provided the City of Shoreline with a current, valid prescription for my child s Epinephrine Auto-Injector (EA-I). I understand that the City of Shoreline staff, who are not medical professionals, will only assist in the administration of the EA-I in life-threatening situations and when my child is not capable of selfadministering. Therefore, I authorize and recommend self-administration by my child of the EA-I. In the event my child is unable to self-administer, the City of Shoreline has my permission to administer the EA-I for my child during a lifethreatening allergic reaction. I HEREBY AGREE TO RELEASE, INDEMNIFY, AND HOLD HARMLESS the City of Shoreline, its employees, officials, or agents and TO WAIVE ANY CLAIM by myself, my heirs, executors, assigns, or personal representative that I might have against the City of Shoreline, its employees, officials, or agents from and against any and all claims, damages, or causes of action arising out of or in any way connected to the selfadministration, assisted administration, failure to administer, or attempt to administer the EA-I to my child.
