2 Overview Boy Scout Troop 67 is an official unit of the Boy Scouts of America chartered by the Knights of Columbus at Saint Cyprian Catholic Church. The Troop has been in existence continuously since The Troop is made up of Scouts and Adult Leaders and currently has about 50 Scouts. The Scouts are divided into Patrols, including a Patrol for new Scouts (the Dragons). The boys do not have to be members of St. Cyprian Catholic Church, attend St. Cyprian School, or even be of the Roman Catholic faith to join Troop 67. Troop Meetings Our Troop meets every Thursday in the large hall at St Cyprian Church from 7:00 to 8:30 pm. Scouts work on skills and prepare for upcoming outings. The Troop is boy led. Every 6 months elections are held and new youth leadership is established to run their program. Uniform We are a full uniform Troop. BSA shirt, pants/shorts, belt, neckerchief and socks complete the full uniform. This flexible template website is used for calendaring, RSVPing, general communications, payments & accounting. We will provide you a user account when you join. Parent Meetings Parent Meetings are gatherings of leaders and all parents, to plan and review upcoming Troop activities. Parent meetings are the 1 st Thursday of each month, during the regular Troop meeting time, 7:00 to 8:30 pm. Scouting is boy led so the parents provide support on subjects such as: logistical booking for upcoming outings and events, announcement of District and Council events and discussion of possible participation, planning of fundraisers, training information, planning for Troop parties, financial information, etc. 2

3 Paperwork Each Scout is required to complete the BSA Youth Application along with the BSA medical form parts A and B (prior to summer camp, any 72+ hour outing or any international outing, medical form part C will also be required). At each campout, Scouts are required to have in their possession a completed and signed parent release form. They are to carry the parent release form in their pocket while in transit to and from camp. Parents are also encouraged to register with BSA. They need to complete the adult application and complete Youth Protection training. Adult registration allows the adult to serve as a driver and participate in campouts. Cost The Troop collects funds from our families via 4 sources which we reestablish and evaluate annually. Annual Scout Registration o First Year scouts - historically about $80 o Renewing Scouts - historically about $50 $10 second sibling discount $10 prorate discount for new scouts who re-chartered in December Youth Monthly Dues $5 Adult Registration $15 Outing Fees $15-$100 per outing, see outing history handout for recent outing costs With your membership fee, the Troop will provide your Scout with: Boy Scout Handbook, Troop neckerchief, slide, Boys Life, and all awards. The monthly dues are intended to supplement the Troop general fund for gear expenses. Outings are paid al la carte. Each monthly outing has a projected cost which is intended to closely cover the cost of camping and food. The troop web site has the projected cost for each outing. We ask that you deposit this amount into your camp account (via cash or check to the treasurer or just pay online directly into your camp account). After the outing, the actual cost of the trip is calculated and broken down on the web site. We break even on each camp and the costs are split evenly among youth and adults who attend. This actual camp amount is drafted out your camp account after the outing. We request that you carry a positive balance in your camp account so fund it at any time so that you are ready for the next trip. Fundraising We normally hold one primary fundraiser Pancake Breakfast. The annual event is held at St Cyprian. Ticket sales are completely voluntary and your participation is optional. The advantage of participation is great; your Scout will retain all of his sales profits in his own camp account. Money he earns can be used towards his monthly camping fees or summer camp. Involve yourself in the Pancake Breakfast as it is a great way to directly offset your individual camping expenses. Tickets are available to all Scouts in late February so that they may sell to family and friends. Scouts can also sign up to sell tickets after Church at designated times. Money earned is retained in the Scouts camp fund and can be used for future outings. We often also participate in council fund raiser events, such as pop corn or card sales. With these fundraisers, the profit from your sales goes directly into your camp account. Participation is optional. Outings Virtually every month the troop has an outdoor activity normally a 2 night campout. Participants are required to: RSVP on-line and on-time through Troop Web Site Remain current with Troop dues Maintain a positive account balance via check or cash or PayPal to the Troop treasurer 3

4 Our web site has details about each outing. The typical outing has a Friday night departure (in full class A uniform) around 7:00 pm and we return in the afternoon on Sunday. On the way home you will get a phone call from your scout with a more specific arrival time so that you can pick him up at church. The cost varies per outing. Attached is an outing cost history. Registered adults are welcome to attend all campouts. We ask that siblings do not attend. Outings are occasionally designated as family campouts and then siblings, friends and family are all welcome. Adults are needed as drivers for every campout. If you are interested in camping, then please participate. Adults camp separate from the youth and form their own patrol for the weekend. For most adults the primary function is transportation, health & safety, plus spending a weekend with other parents from the Troop. Our trained Troop Scoutmasters oversee the youth program and work directly with the Scouts on the outings. Gear The Troop supplies almost all camping gear to each Patrol. Patrols boxes contain pots, pans, cooking utensils, stoves & propane. We have lanterns, rain flies, tents, dutch ovens and all the group camping basics. Each Scout will need to pack his personal gear as outlined on the pack-check sheet (available on our web site), including sleeping bag, personal eating utensils and other basic items. The week of an outing, each patrol will conduct a pack check. All Scouts below the rank of 1 st class are required to bring their personal gear as it will be checked by his fellow Scouts. Summer Camp A pivotal point in the Scouting experience is summer camp. It could be said that the lessons learned at the monthly outings lead to the annual week long summer camp trip. The Troop attends a different summer camp each year, selected by the Scouts. In 2017, we attended Camp Tahquitz in the San Bernardino Forrest. In 2018 we took a train to Oregon. We have not yet selected a spot for 2019 but typically we choose a new place each year. Advancement With age and maturity comes responsibility, the Scouting advancement program directly recognizes this. Boy Scout advancement is paced per boy. The Troop will provide programs and opportunities for all boys to advance. Many advancement requirements are skills taught at Troop meetings and campouts. Yet it is the responsibility of each Scout to progress. The Troop holds near-quarterly Court of Honor ceremonies to acknowledge the successes of our Scouts. Church Involvement The Troop volunteers to work the first aid booth and a game booth at the St Cyprian Community Fest Carnival each year. 8 Broomball with Troop 67 We would like you to learn about Troop 67. Please join us on Sunday September 30 th at 8pm for an evening of broomball (The Rinks at 3975 Pixie Ave - off Paramount and Carson. Basically, behind Koll s) The facility has 3 ice rings within the building, all with bleachers for those who are not playing Logistics to participate are simple: Be on time and ready to hit the ice at 8pm sharp Complete the waiver form on-site We have the rink for only 1 hour. Make the most out of your time. Adults and Scouts and Friends will all play. Bring a friend. Games will be mostly informal: scouts vs scouts, adults vs scouts, multiple balls We will just hit the ice and start playing All players must bring their own and wear a bike helmet It's chilly inside, dress in layer. BSA uniform not necessary. Wear normal shoes. Perhaps knee pads All Webelos are our guests and there is no cost for you. We ask that non-webelos contribute $5 per player. Our troop youth leader (Senior Patrol Leader) will collect money right at the ice entrance. Enter the facility and find our rink, pay and turn in your waiver to the SPL when you step onto the ice.
