9 Tourism + Education Reality Show Realness at the Soldotna Visitor Center Last summer, the Soldotna Chamber of Commerce & Visitor Center opened its door to a UK film crew. Actor Robson Green, an English actor, known in the UK for his various fishing shows and television dramas, visited the Soldotna Visitor Center and the Kenai Peninsula to film segments of a new reality, outdoor show called Robson Green Grand Slam Fishing. Spending an afternoon on set with Mr. Green and the Travel Channel was a fantastic experience for visitor center staff! The film crew was very interested in Les Anderson s story of the Big Fish! Sara, our Tourism and Education Coordinator, enjoyed telling Anderson s tale and also, the polite go round between Mr. Green and her on the pronunciation of local fishing holes names. Robson Green Grand Slam Fishing is a series of shows that first aired in January of Mr. Green grew up hearing tales of the Kenai River, and so, it was a childhood dream to compete for a Salmon Grand Slam on one of the best salmon fishing rivers in the world- the Kenai. Season 1, episode 5 of Robson Green Grand Slam Fishing on the Kenai aired in February in the UK, but was recently published on YouTube to help its global popularity. Watching the show is sure to entertain, and you may even recognize some of the Soldotna Chamber s business members like Jimmie Jack Fishing, Salmon Catcher Lodge and Ninilchik Charters. May s attendance = 2,522 people (Up from last year!) Visitor who traveled the furthest: Australia Visitor Center Updates Visitor Comments: Debbie & Chris Oberste from Princeton, Texas said, We enjoyed the walk and conversation with Barb! Funny Visitor-ism: I have a question about an animal I saw on the road; it is about the size of a raccoon with a bushy tail, too, but it is sleeker and has a pointy nose. Maybe someone knows the answer to this riddle? It is not, according to the visitor, a fox, lynx, marmot, wolverine, or a marten. Without new experiences, something inside of us sleeps. The sleeper must awaken. Frank Herbert 2017 Accommodation Tour Update I would like to thank all of our businesses who participated in this year s Accommodation Tour for their hospitality and scheduling flexibility! It was a full schedule and an exciting one; we toured a grand total of 47 businesses, in eight different communities, over the course of 2 weeks! I want to assure you that our visitor center staff is working diligently and enthusiastically, on your behalf, to deliver visitors with an accurate knowledge of your businesses.
