2 Itinerary: Wednesday, March 14, 2018-TRAVEL DAY Mtn. Brook Band Spring Trip 2018 Itinerary Page 2 of 17 o o BATH+DEODORANT BEFORE YOU ARRIVE AT SCHOOL. o EAT BREAKFAST BEFORE YOU ARRIVE AT SCHOOL. o Arrive at school in this: Wear any comfortable clothing. o Bus temperatures are random and often extreme. It s a good idea to bring a jacket on the bus with you in case it s cold. (Blankets and pillows are recommended) o Bring snacks for the bus. (See rules about snacks and drinks below) o Bring playing cards, games, DS, PSP, Cell Phone, ipad, ipod-optional. headphones, earbuds-required etc. for the bus o Bring money ($20) for lunch and dinner on the way to Orlando. You will also need money for meals on the return trip. o Bring money for snacks at rest areas (small bills or coins) o Bring Instrument MBJH: Make sure your case has a nametag. Percussionists need to bring their stick bags. Make sure each player has mallets for keyboard instruments, timpani mallets, and snare sticks. All percussion equipment will be provided at the workshop. o Bring Instrument MBHS: Account for all necessary performance items (uniform, socks, shoes, gloves, sticks, mouthpieces, flags, etc.) o You can bring snacks and drinks for your rooms. Rooms have refrigerators. *No energy drinks* o Make sure your luggage is labeled. 7:30 am Bus 1 arrives at: Mountain Brook Junior High School 205 Overbrook Road Birmingham, Alabama Dr. Mark Foster-contact 7:30 am Bus 2 arrives at: Mountain Brook High School 3650 Bethune Drive Birmingham, Alabama Mr. Jason Smith-contact 7:45 am MBHS: Loading crew arrives. 8:00 am Students Arrive at MBJH/MBHS. Assemble in the bandroom with your Instrument/luggage/carry-on bags at your seat. Chaperones should park in the front parking lot of the school. 8:15 am Load instruments and luggage.

3 Page 3 of 17 8:30 am Roll call on buses, depart for Orlando. Buses will meet up at the Shell/McDonalds at Exit 246 on I-65 shortly after departure. During the bus trip, we will stop for lunch and dinner. We are planning to stop in Dothan for lunch and somewhere near or in Orlando for dinner. You will need money for these meals. We are now on Eastern Time, your phone should automatically make the move. Make sure your watch is set correctly if you are relying on it for the time. 9:00 pm Arrive at the hotel: Courtyard by Marriott Lake Buena Vista at Vista Centre 8501 Palm Parkway Lake Buena Vista, Florida We will distribute room keys upon our arrival at the hotel. 9:15 pm or TBA Marching band meeting for all students marching in the parade through the Magic Kingdom on Thursday. Mr. Smith will coordinate this and let everyone know when/where. 10:00 pm Do general housekeeping chores in the room. 10:30 pm Lights out. Charge phones. No talking. Go to sleep.

4 Page 4 of 17 Thursday, March 15, 2018: MAGIC KINGDOM (MBHS Performance day) o Wear comfortable shoes! We will be doing a lot of walking, so make sure you pick shoes that you won t complain about. o Wear new band Disney trip shirt. o Hats/sunscreen/sunglasses o You can bring a refillable water bottle into the Disney parks. o One person in your group may want to take a backpack snacks are okay to take into Disney. o Bring money for souvenirs in Magic Kingdom. You might also want to bring money for a locker if you feel like you need one for your stuff while in the park. o You will receive one $30 Disney Dining Card. This is to be used for lunch and dinner. You will probably need a little more than $30 for both of these meals. Use the Disney Dining Card 1 st, then add your own money afterward. These 6:00 am Wake-up. Eat breakfast at the hotel-included in trip cost. Be dressed and ready when you arrive at breakfast. Plan to be at breakfast no later than 7:30. 7:30 am Roll call on buses, depart for the Magic Kingdom 8:00 am Arrive at Magic Kingdom Park 3111 World Drive Lake Buena Vista, FL Students must remain with their chaperone the entire time while in the parks. Groups should eat lunch and dinner in the park. Students will receive one $30 dining card. This card will be the only one you will receive for the day. 12:00 pm Mandatory check-in. All chaperone groups must check in with Mr. Smith or Dr. Foster. Dr. Foster will be in Tomorrowland on or near the people mover. This can be done in person or via phone/text. We will send out our current locations via Remind 4:30 pm Bus 2 leaves hotel to meet us in the parade assembly area outside of Park 3 Security Gate. 5:00 pm All marching band students (all high school students and some junior high students) meet at Frontier Parade Gate near Splash Water Falls in order to prepare for the MBHS parade performance. 6:00 pm All junior high students and chaperones meet in front of Cinderella s Castle and prepare to watch the parade.

5 Page 5 of 17 6:30 pm MBHS Parade Performance through the Magic Kingdom! Everyone watch the parade and enjoy the spectacle. We will follow the parade and meet up with the MBHS band. 7:30 pm (TBA) As the parade concludes, MBJH students and chaperones will meet together near the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. 9:00 pm Watch the Happily Ever After fireworks show with your chaperone groups. 10:00 pm Meet at the park entrance with your groups near the Ferryboat terminal. We will ride the boat together to the bus parking. 10:30 pm Roll call on buses, depart for hotel. 10:45 pm Arrive at hotel. Go directly to rooms. Do general housekeeping chores in the room. Charge phones. 11:30 pm Lights out. No talking. Go to sleep.

6 Page 6 of 17 Friday, March 16, 2018: HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS (MBJH Performance Day) o Wear MBJH Band T-Shirt (Green) and shorts/jeans o Hats/sunscreen/sunglasses o Bring money for souvenirs in EPCOT 7:30 am Wake-up. Eat breakfast at the hotel-included in trip cost. Be dressed and ready when you arrive at breakfast. You must finish eating breakfast by 8:30am. The MBJH band will leave after the MBHS band, so MBJH band members can eat then finish getting ready. 8:30 am MBHS band students roll call on bus 2, depart for Hollywood Studios. MBJH Students do not load buses at this time. 9:00am MBHS Band: Arrive at Disney s Hollywood Studios 351 South Studio Drive Lake Buena Vista, FL Students must remain with their chaperone group the entire time while in the parks. Students will receive one $30 dining card. This card will be the only one you will receive for the day. 9:30 am MBJH students roll call on bus 1, depart for workshop at Sunset Studios near Disney s Hollywood Studios. 10:00 am MBJH band arrive at Sunset Studios and prepare for workshop experience. All cases stay on the bus. Leave your stuff (backpacks, ipads, etc ) on the bus. You can take your cell phone, but it must stay on silent, and it must stay in your pocket or purse. Girls can take small purses, no backpacks. Chaperones will not have to go with us to this event. Bus 1 will take chaperones to the entrance of the Hollywood Studios Park and they can enjoy a leisurely morning in the park. 1:15 pm Mandatory check-in for MBHS students. All chaperone groups must check in with Mr. Smith. This can be done in person or via phone/text. 1:15 pm Workshop ends. MBJH band students will be able to enter the Hollywood Studios Park from the workshop area. We will meet up with chaperones at the Rockin Roller Coaster, and we will stay at Hollywood Studios until the park closes. Students must remain with their chaperone group the entire time while in the parks.

This show takes place near the front & center of the park. We should be able to make it to the show after Fantasmic! 9:30 pm Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular ends, head to the buses. 10:00 pm Roll call on buses, depart for hotel. 10:30 pm Arrive at hotel. Go directly to your room. Do general housekeeping chores in the room. Charge phones. 11:00pm Lights out. No Talking. Everyone must go to sleep.

8 Page 8 of 17 Saturday, March 17, 2018: ANIMAL KINGDOM & EPCOT DAY o Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. o Hats/sunscreen/sunglasses o Bring money for souvenirs in the Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios 6:00 am Wake-up. Eat breakfast at the hotel-included in trip cost. Be dressed and ready when you arrive at breakfast. You must finish eating breakfast by 7:15am 7:30 am Roll call on buses, depart for the Animal Kingdom 7:45 am Arrive at Disney s Animal Kingdom 2910 Osceola Pkwy Orlando, Florida Students must remain with their chaperone group the entire time while in the park. Groups should eat lunch in this park. Students will receive one $30 dining card that is going to need to be split between the Animal Kingdom and EPCOT. Plan to use this card for lunch at Animal Kingdom and for dinner at EPCOT. 11:00 am Chaperone groups check-in with Mr. Smith & Dr. Foster. This can be done in person or via phone/text. 1:30 pm Everyone meet at the entrance to Animal Kingdom and prepare to depart for EPCOT 2:00 pm Roll call on buses, depart for Disney s EPCOT. 2:15 pm Arrive at EPCOT 1200 Epcot Resort Blvd Lake Buena Vista, FL Students must remain with their chaperone group the entire time while in the parks. Groups should eat dinner in the park. Students received one $30 dining card earlier in the day. 6:00 pm Chaperone groups check-in with Mr. Smith & Dr. Foster. This can be done in person or via phone/text.

9 Page 9 of 17 9:00 pm Watch IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth Fireworks show with your group and chaperone. This takes place around the lagoon in the World Showcase. After this ends, meet at the entrance to the park. We will walk back to the buses as a group. 9:45 pm Roll call on buses, depart for hotel. 10:00 pm Arrive at Hotel. Go directly to your room. Do general housekeeping chores in the room. Charge phones and other electronic devices for the bus ride home tomorrow. Pack for the trip home tomorrow. 11:00 pm Lights out. Everyone must go to sleep.

10 Sunday, March 18, 2018-TRAVEL DAY Mtn. Brook Band Spring Trip 2018 Itinerary Page 10 of 17 o We leave this day, be sure to have all of your belongings packed and ready to load buses!! o Bring money ($20-estimated) for lunch and dinner on the way home. We will make several rest stops along the way. 6:30 am Wake-up. Eat breakfast at the hotel-included in trip cost. Be dressed and ready when you arrive at breakfast. 7:45 am Load luggage onto buses after breakfast. 8:00 am Roll call on buses, Depart for MBJH. There will be a lunch and dinner stop along the way*you will need money for these meals. This would be a good time to catch up on any make-up work. We will now be on Central Time. Please adjust watches accordingly. 8:00pm Bus 1 will arrive at MBJH & bus 2 will arrive at MBHS with great memories from an incredible trip. Parents, please park in the main parking lot-do not block Overbrook Road bus parking area. Please help us with luggage. All students and chaperones need to sign up for the Mountain Brook Band Disney Trip class that Mr. Smith has set up. to Dr. Foster: If you are already enrolled in Dr. Foster s remind class, you will continue to receive trip messages through this account. If you are not enrolled in this group, to and you will be enrolled.

11 Page 11 of 17 PACKING LIST Sunglasses, Cap/hat/visor Jacket/sweat shirt-check the weather several times before the trip to see what the weather will be like in order to know how to dress. Be prepared for warm and cold weather. Poncho/umbrella in case it rains while at the Disney parks (cheaper now than it will be there) Money for 4 meals on the road-(lunch and Dinner Wednesday; Lunch and Dinner Sunday) These will be fast food type stops, so plan accordingly, souvenirs in the Disney Parks, extra snacks. It s hard to say an exact amount, but I would plan on at least $30-50 just for food and snacks in addition to any souvenirs. Wallet/small purse/backpack (you might also bring a couple of Ziploc bags to keep wallet/phone/etc. dry) Small pillow and blanket for bus Refillable water bottle for the park. Brush/Comb/ (hair dryers are provided in the hotel room) Deodorant Tooth brush and tooth paste Lotion/Sunscreen (liquids in a Ziploc bag) Trash bag for dirty clothes Cell phone with charger Portable electronic devices with headphones/earbuds and charger-optional Reading material, cards, homework DVDs for bus (PG or G only)-all movies must be approved by Bus Captain Snacks for the bus o Snacks such as chips, cookies, crackers, candy bars, granola bars, etc. are allowed. (NO SUNFLOWER SEEDS, DORITOS, CHEETOS, OR GUM!) o Drinks must be in screw-top bottles. (NO EXCEPTIONS). Camera (charger, extra batteries, memory card)-optional Power strip for charging devices in your room (1 per room) An additional pair of shoes. We will be doing a lot of walking. The same pair of shoes is going to get very uncomfortable, so you might want to have an additional pair. Spare reeds, oils, grease-anything needed for you to perform on your instrument at the workshop or parade. Wet wipes. Marching band: Shoes, Socks, Shorts for under the uniform, gloves, flags, and any other necessary uniform items needed for the parade. For information about what is or is not allowed inside the Disney Parks, check their website at: WHAT NOT TO WEAR OR BRING o Clothing or hats with suggestive or rude sayings. No advertisements for alcohol/drugs or anything else that will cause your band director or chaperone to ask you change clothes. o Overly revealing attire. Don t embarrass yourself or your directors by forcing us to ask you to put on more clothing. o Absolutely NO energy drinks of any kind (Red Bull, AMP, Monster, NOS, etc) will be allowed.

12 TRIP RULES Mtn. Brook Band Spring Trip 2018 Itinerary Page 12 of 17 The Mountain Brook Band Spring Trip is a Mountain Brook City Schools board approved field trip. Students must abide by the Student Code of Conduct. 1. Students must remember that they represent not only themselves, but also, their parents/guardian, the Mountain Brook Band, MBJH, MBHS, and the Mountain Brook City Schools. 2. Students are expected to behave in a mature, polite, and courteous manner to Mountain Brook City School employees, chaperones, bus drivers, and any worker/server they encounter. 3. Consumption of alcoholic beverages, smoking, vaping, or use of illegal drugs will not be tolerated on this trip. Anyone caught doing anything like this will be turned over to the local authorities, the offending student s parents will be called to come take them home, and disciplinary action will be taken at school upon the band s return to campus. 4. Chaperones must be obeyed. Chaperones have taken their instructions from the band directors. Any student who does not follow the directions of their chaperone will be disciplined by the band directors and may forfeit their right to spend the day in the Disney Parks with their friends. 5. Please do not wear shabby, sloppy, ragged, or dirty clothes. Students must wear the required t-shirt for the entire day on each day of the trip. 6. Students may not wear clothing or hats with suggestive or rude sayings or advertisements for alcohol or drugs. No revealing attire will be allowed. Length of shorts must be appropriate. The band directors and/or administrator will ask students to change clothes if necessary. 7. Students are expected to use good personal hygiene on the trip. Daily baths, brushing teeth, and the use of deodorant is expected of everyone. 8. Students will have an assigned bus that they will travel on for the entire trip. 9. Students will have an assigned chaperone for the hotel and an assigned chaperone for the days in the Disney Parks. 10. Students will have an assigned group in the hotel and for the Disney groups. Students may not change groups. 11. Students must stay in their assigned groups in the Disney parks and any other place we visit. No student should ever be alone or go anywhere alone while on the trip.

13 Page 13 of Students will not be allowed to visit in other rooms at the hotel. Students cannot hang out in other rooms at night. 13. At the hotel, girls are not allowed in boys rooms and boys are not allowed in girls rooms for any reason. 14. Students will obey curfew each night. Curfew is set for a reason. Curfew is intended to keep students safe and to help them get the rest that they will need to enjoy the long days we will have at the Disney Parks. Being tired will make you miserable and maybe even sick. Students are to be in their room at curfew and are not to leave it at any time during the night. Doing so will result in disciplinary action. 15. Personal items are to be kept organized in the hotel rooms. Trash and food must be put in garbage cans. Any damage to a hotel room will be the financial responsibility of the student and parents of the student causing the damage. 16. When leaving the hotel on Sunday, students must leave the room in order. The designated student room captain will assist with and supervise the cleanliness of the room throughout the trip and report any problems to the chaperone. 17. Any gross misbehavior will result in disciplinary action. Calls will be made to parents to notify them of the situation. Parents may be asked to arrange transportation home for their child if the behavior deems necessary. Any student detained by Walt Disney World Security will have their parents called immediately to come and pick up their student from Orlando. The misbehavior will also be dealt with upon our return to school by the administration of the Mountain Brook City Schools.

14 Page 14 of 17 STUDENT GUIDELINES ON THE BUS: Choose a seat and a buddy that you will be happy with for the entire trip. No changing of seats unless directed to do so by a band director. Students must be in their seats during travel. The only exception is a visit to the bus restroom. #1 Students must sit in seats correctly. No sitting on armrests or seatbacks. No one will be allowed to sleep on the floor. Trash must be placed in bags provided by the bus company. Do not leave trash or food in the seats, floor, or overhead bins. Students will clean up their own spills. Nothing is to be put into the bus toilet but toilet tissue. No inappropriate language, gestures or horseplay will be tolerated. Use inside voices when talking to friends on the bus. ipods and MP3/CD players must have personalized earphones. Students may have a pillow and a small blanket. Snacks such as chips, cookies, and crackers are allowed on the bus. NO Doritos, Cheetos, sunflower seeds, popcorn, or gum allowed on the bus. All drinks must have a lid or a screw-on top. NO energy drinks(red Bull, AMP, Monster, NOS, etc.) will be allowed on the bus or at any time on the trip. Any DVD shown on the bus must be G or PG and should be approved by the bus captain. No Drama IN THE HOTEL Be courteous to all hotel employees. Use an appropriate volume of voice. Remember we will get back to the hotel very late at night. Absolutely no running. Keep your door locked. Do not slam doors. Keep TV at an appropriate volume. Lights out means lights out, electronics off, mouths closed, and everyone going to sleep! Use the room phone only for an emergency. Make a plan with your room buddies about taking showers in the a.m. or p.m. Pick up your things each day before you leave. Trash in garbage cans. It is always kind to leave a tip for housekeeping-usually $2-3 per day per person. Put any valuable items and souvenirs in your suitcase. At breakfast, take only what you know you will eat. Clean up after yourself. Leave the room in good condition when you leave on Sunday. Chaperones will inspect your room before we leave. No Drama IN THE DISNEY PARKS Stay with your assigned chaperone and group at all times. Obey all park rules. Be courteous to park employees. Keep up with your own belongings. Be aware of your money, camera, backpack, etc. Do not even think about taking something that does not belong to you. Eat a good lunch and dinner that will keep you feeling energized. You will be receiving Remind texts to hydrate. Plan on hydrating throughout each long day. Wear comfortable shoes for a lot of walking. No Drama
