1 THE IDAHO ODD FELLOW REBEKAH NEWS VOL. 120 No. 2 HAMMETT, IDAHO FEBRUARY 2010 Grand Lodge of Idaho 920 Grant (208) Rebekah Assembly of Idaho P.O. Box 359 (208) CARNATION #95 At the last meeting in November 2009, Mr. Larry Arenson, care giver for Mary Bobby, (Past Vice President of the Rebekah Assembly of Idaho and member of Carnation #95), presented to the Lodge a donation from Mary s estate. Mary had no children and the Rebekahs were her family. She always had a smile for you. She worked hard and was secretary of the lodge for many years, missing very few meetings. We will remember her good nature and loving spirit. Jr. Past President, Nancy Morris, accepted this generous donation from Mr. Anderson. Submitted by Nancy Morris A REAL REBEKAH The meaning of being a Rebekah is alive and strong in the Stites #59 Lodge. Our lodge gathers donations of food from our members to make up a complete Christmas dinner. Then we sell tickets on it in the community to raise funds for our lodge. The drawing is usually held at our Christmas party, but the weather and illness forced its cancellation. We then held our drawing a few days later. Our sister Jesse Arlt won the basket. Like many of us she felt her family did not need the meal. She then donated the entire dinner to a local organization that knew of a family in dire need. The meal Jesse donated was all they had for Christmas. Jesse is the kind of Rebekah our organization can hold in the highest regard. Thank you Jesse for your kindness. In FLT, Joyce Wikse, reporter BINGHAM #78 AND IVY #23 INSTALL Sister Alice Mayer, District Deputy of District #1 installed the officers of Bingham #78 and Ivy #23 Rebekah Lodges at a Joint Special Meeting held Saturday afternoon, January 9, 2010, at the Pocatello Lodge Hall. Sister Mayer was assisted my members of Bingham: Kay Bammert, Elaine Beyeler and Judy Putnam. Installed as officers of Ivy #23 were: Shannon Vieth, Noble Grand; Crystal Shepherd, Vice Grand; Anna Breeze, Secretary; and Matt Breeze, Treasurer. Appointive officers were Suzan Soles and Amanda Russell. Bingham #78 officers were: Kay Bammert, Noble Grand; Anna Breeze, Vice Grand; Judy Putnam, Secretary; and Elaine Beyeler, Treasurer. Refreshments were served following the meeting. Submitted by Anna Breeze ANNA REBEKAH LODGE #14 We are happy to announce we initiated six new members into our lodge. They are: Jessica McCallum, Jesse Bender, Deborah Thomas, Carol Fulton, Louise Wagenknecht and Laura Ripley. Assisting with the ceremony were two sisters from Silver Leaf #27, (Challis), Shannon McGhee and Betty Webb. We appreciate several of our members who came to help when needed, also. We will be initiating again when the applicants are able to attend. New officers for the coming year are: Noble Grand, Connie Weed; Vice Grand, Nita Thomas; Secretary, Sharon Hoffman, and Treasurer, DeNiese Anderson. They will be installed on January 20th. 3 The Idaho Odd Fellow Rebekah News - February Page 3 James Weighall Grand Master Roberta Joy Lee Assembly President Dear Brothers and Sisters, Well, the Holiday Season is over and we all made it through to the New Year!!! I hope, as you all do, that 2010 will bring renewed interest in Oddfellowship, and a few new members can be added to the rolls. It is my wish that a drive for membership is everyone s New Years resolution. I also wish you all health and good fortune the coming year. We all appreciate the fact that the Grand Lodge gave the members a break on their per capita dues. That gives everyone a bit more operating capital this year. I am looking forward to the upcoming District meetings over the next few months and the opportunity of attending all of them. I look forward to seeing all of you there and hearing about all you have done the past year. Congratulations to all of those newly elected officers who will soon be installed. I wish you all the best of luck and hope you all have a rewarding year. Until next time, and in F,L and T, James B. Weighall Sr. GM Dear Sisters and Brothers: It is hard to believe that another month has passed already. I don t know where the time goes. I haven t even started taking my Christmas decorations down yet. I hope to get the hundred (or so) out of the inside of the house this weekend. I ll let my husband worry about the thousands of outside lights. By the time you are reading this, I will already have started my visits in the Boise area. I hope that I meet lots of my friends from years past and meet new ones whom I can call friends from here forward. I never have been good at names, but I certainly don t forget faces. It is hard to believe that District Meetings will be starting in a little over 3 weeks. I hope you are all trying new ways to get members to do their exemplifications. I especially enjoy the District Meetings, because we get a chance to visit some of the Sisters and Brothers whom we haven t seen for a while. It seems that our lives get so busy that we don t get around to visiting with other lodge s members. A faithful friend is a strong defense, and he that hath found him, Hath found a treasure. My Treasure Chest is full & running over. Until next time, I remain... Yours, In F, L, & T, Roberta Joy Lee, President To our new members Diana L. 8 The Idaho Odd Fellow Rebekah News - February Page YEARS AGO From the Recorder Herald The ball given on New Year s eve by Rocky Mountain Lodge No. 5, I.O.O.F., was the grandest affair of its kind ever hed in this city. Eighty-six numbers were sold and the management spared no effort to secure the enjoyment of the guests. The music by Messrs. Gheen, High, McIntire and Holbrook was far superior to any ever furnished for dancing purposes in Lemhi county and gave general satisfaction to all. The supper was simply perfect and taken all in all everyone enjoyed themselves greatly and even the old folks did not leave for home until four o clock in the morning.
