1 From the President Freddie Jones Hello again fellow Mississippi Corvette Club members and Corvette enthusiasts. So far this year the weather has not been that conducive for putting our cars on the road much but that too shall pass. We had another great meal at Brewster s Pigskin during our February meeting. Thanks Robert and Shana for recommending it. The barbeque was great and I know they really appreciated us being there. Due to our meeting getting a little lengthy, we were not able to get the manager into the meeting to give him a Certificate of Appreciation, however, Robert presented it to him after the meeting and he promptly hung it on the wall behind the cash register for all to see. Anytime anyone goes in there to eat they cannot help but see that the MS Corvette Club has been there. Once again the weather with all the snow threatened one of our favorite events, the Dixie National Rodeo Parade, but a dedicated group of sixteen showed and had a great time. According to the Dixie National folks only about 40% of those scheduled to participate came to the parade. Even though the crowds along the street were a little sparse in most places those that were there, both the little kids and the grown up kids, really enjoyed all the colorful beads and candy. For a short time I think they forgot just how cold it was out there. Following the parade twenty one of us took a scenic drive to Louisville to eat at Lake Tiak O Khata. The food was only upstaged Mississippi Corvette Club Members, by the fellowship of those in attendance. What an early Valentine for all. Ralph we really were only kidding about your hair but will be glad when you get your Flair Hair. Following our meal and some more fellowship we headed to Philadelphia for our annual trip to the Williams Brothers Store. Loaded with bounty from the store we all headed back home after a great Corvette day. Those who were unable to attend really missed one of the best events we have had in a very long time. I hope everyone benefited from the information on the oil sensor system provided by Al in the tech tips and the input from Ray and Alan who had heard briefings on it. Maybe we need to spend a little time in future meetings talking about our Corvettes and maybe we all can learn a great deal more than we currently know. When the weather clears up and is a little warmer we can continue our great Corvette weekends with a drive to Landrum s Country Village in Laurel. If anyone has any other ideas for drives or events, please send them in and let s get them on the calendar. All members are encouraged to give us input on possible outings for our club. Please provide your information to John Cork so he can begin working the logistics on them. We want to schedule what the members want to do. See you at the next meeting and until then keep on driving and smiling and save the wave. The 2010 Vettes for Vets will be held at the Talladega Race Track on July 3, There have been some changes since last year. This year only Corvettes will be allowed. You may remember how much fun Jakki and Joe Mozola had when Jakki drove the laps last year (2009). We even got to see pictures. Also, Sherry and Jim drove their car last year. If any of you are interested be sure to put this on your 2010 calendar. As I get more information I will forward it to Mississippi Corvette Club members. 3 Mississippi Corvette Club Rumblin in Ridgeland Car and Bike Show The 1st Annual Rumblin in Ridgeland Car & Bike Show will be held April, 17, benefiting Sunnybrook Children s Home in Ridgeland, MS and Holmes Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. The event is presented by Holmes Community College, the City of Ridgeland, and the Mississippi Classic Cruisers Car Club. Dixie National Parade and Cruise to Lake Tiak O khata Let it snow, and it did, but it didn t snow on our parade. It turned out to be a great day for the Dixie National Parade, on February 13, 2010, with a total of 15 Corvettes participating. What a great group of Vettes and participants. As usual, we threw candy/beads/bubble gum and the folks loved it. There were not a lot of spectators this year, maybe due to the weather; it was cold, I might add. Can you believe Al and Cindy Kabelac allowed their daughter, Ashley, to drive their Corvette in the parade and to Lake Taik? Ally, the other daughter, was the passenger making sure the did not speed. I think it was the highlight of the day for them and us. Good job girls!!! We were delighted to have Pam and Barry Ware with us this year. Pam is the granddaughter of Bill and Ann Bowlus. Ann was enjoying the ride too. Bill Franks thanks for encouraging Bev to get out in the cold weather after her surgery, it was so good to see her, and good to see Leslie, since she s been unable to make some of the meetings due to work. David Wilson was so cold that he decided to go home and get warm and take of Laura who was not feeling well. John Fournet, I saw you at the parade, but lost track of you after that. 4 Mississippi Corvette Club Page 4 Dixie National Parade and Cruise to Lake Tiak O khata the parade. I saw you both. After the parade, we cruised to Lake Tiak O Khata, in Louisville, MS, which is always fun. We had a total of 11 cars (picking up Tom Gerity at the parade site and Ralph and Sue Beth on Hwy. 25) with a total of 21 people. The weather cooperated and the roads were clear for traveling. The snow just glistening during our travel, but the further north we traveled, it seemed to fade away. The lunch was delicious. This year we had lunch in the Terra Cotta room, more like a sun room, which was welcomed, since it was cold. Linda Henslee had on the perfect hat for the cold weather. Too cute, Linda. After lunch, we drove to Williamsville, home of the Williams Grocery. It s a nice drive form Lake Taik O khata and everyone seemed to enjoy the store, especially Cindy, Ashley, and Ally Kabelac. Ask Al if you don t believe me. You will see the girls sporting their belt George Dupont Joins One Acre Club Acre by acre the National Corvette Museum is working towards our dreams of owning and operating a first class Motorsports Park but we need your help! By joining the One Acre Club like our friend George Dupont you can earn track time once the park is completed. As a founding Member of the National Corvette Museum I have been an ardent supporter since its inception. The Motorsports Park offers one more war for us to insure that we retain the history and greatness of this product for current and future generations, : Dupont said. Two new driving simulators Two new driving simulators have been installed in the National Corvette Museum. The simulators focus on five areas of driving. Emergency Driving Situations; Driving Under the Influence; Speed, Road Conditions, and Stopping Distances; Hazard Perception and Fuel Efficient Driving. The simulators were partially funded through a grant from the transportation cabinet and were developed by Virage of Canada. The simulators are the first of their kind in the United States and will be available in the coming weeks for Museum visitor to utilize.

People at the store would do a double take, and then ask where did you get those? One guys said he wanted to purchase one for his lawyer. One lady told Kirby she just thought he was having a bad hair day, like her. You guys looked great! I think I heard Ralph and Dean say they were going to order them one. Dean and Fran sorry we didn t get to make the casino, maybe on another trip. Let s start planning. 6 February 2010 Treasurer s Report The MSCC bank account balance currently is: $2,088.57, with no outstanding checks or pending deposits in the balance. Regular operational expenses that will be pending during the upcoming year are: Domain name Fee: Paid thru Sept. 2011; 3 year term paid in 2008 ($29.97/3 yrs) Hartford Insurance: Due in April /May: $ (amount from last year) Fee for Web hosting: Approx. $108 due in Sept Mail Box annual fee: $40.00 due November 30, Other Regular Variable Expenses: Flowers as needed for member hospital stays or funerals, Postage, 4 th of July party food and Christmas Party food. Since the January Report, the following expenses were paid: None Income deposits received since the January report were $89 from the January meeting 50/50. This included the winner s portion donated back by Kathy Harris, the lucky winner. We also received $ in membership dues payment from 17 members renewing, which includes one new membership and one donation of $40 by Thomas and Pamela Gerity. (Note: the Gerity s were new members in the last quarter of 2009, therefore their 2010 dues were grandfathered, but Thomas paid again and it goes towards a donation to the club.) The new members in January were Becky and Donald Traweek. The current paid membership totals as of January 31, 2010 are 18 paid memberships and 37 members (this includes family members). If anyone has any outstanding expenses, please forward any receipts you may have to me at: 1215 Shadow Wood Drive, Brandon, MS and I will send you a reimbursement check. Please have the expense approved by one of the other officers either by signing receipt or confirmation to me.
