3 Key West Holiday Parade!

4 Still unloading and helping to sell MARC Christmas trees, above; and on the right, the MARC House Christmas tree auction.

5 The Christmas tree decorating contest and tree auction in Marathon. The Sheriff s Office took the prize for most creative. It honored fallen officers with each officer s name on a ball with his/her end of watch date. A picture frame on the tree continuously rotated photos of them as well.

7 Community Events and Activities EVENTS, MEETINGS, CRIME PREVENTION ACTIVITIES.

8 Middle Keys Sgt. James Hager's patrol squad conducted an enforcement effort on vehicles speeding through the 35 mile per hour zone at the south end of Marathon. Over the course of two night shifts, they stopped 14 vehicles for speeding; they wrote four citations to large semi-trucks, seven citations to vehicles and issued eight warnings. They arrested one person for driving with license suspended and issued two notices to appear in court for minor narcotics violations. While conducting the speed enforcement, they also stopped three bicyclists for riding without lights at night. In the picture, Deputy Edward Swogger stops a vehicle for speeding in front of two traffic fatality signs. Upper Keys Sgt. Scott Ward s squad attending a Christmas event at the Murray Nelson building. Deputy Mark Martin hung a No Trespassing sign at La Nina Restaurant in Marathon. The owner agreed after Deputy Martin told him about all the people who hand around the building after hours.

9 The Florida chapter of the Association of Public- Safety Communications Officials (APCO) brought down some hurricane relief supplies for our communications officers this week. Mrs. Santa Claus talks with a contestant in the Ms. Sugar Plum Fairy contest at the Islamorada Holiday Festival. Lt. James Sheagren and a group of inmate workers helped the Healthy Start Coalition out this week unloading several truckloads of baby formula, diapers and other items. Here is Lt. Sheagren with bales of diapers in the background.

10 Working with Kids SCHOOLS, CHILDREN S ACTIVITIES, EXPLORERS AND CADETS.

11 Deputy Shannon O Connell read to students at Stanley Switlik Elementary school. She talked with them about using 911 in an emergency and showed them her patrol car. Deputies Mario Benedetti, Hernan Marin and Sgt. Spenser Bryan played Dodge Ball with kids at Stanley Switlik Elementary school.

12 At regular Explorer / Cadet meetings in the Upper and Lower Keys, kids learned about physical fitness as well as drill movements and how to clean handguns; on the right, a group of outstanding Explorers attended a delegates meeting hosted by Palm Beach County where they trained and competed with many other Explorer posts from around the state.

24 Key West Health and Rehabilitation Holiday Donations 2017 Key West Health and Rehabilitation is seeking donations for our residents this joyous holiday season. Our goal is to have one present for each resident. We have between 60 and 80 residents still in need of a gift. Some of our residents do not have children or relatives. We will gladly wrap and label the donated gift(s) to a resident in need. Commonly residents need clothing, blankets and other items that they can use daily for both men and woman.
