November 11- Monday: Remembrance Day Service will be held in the Constance Gibson Room beginning at 10:30AM. The speaker is Major David Grice, The Salvation Army. November 18- Monday: Kiwanis Village and Vie-West Housing Society Boards of Directors meet at 7:00PM in the Boardroom. November 20 - Wednesday: Kiwanis Club of Victoria Board of Directors meet at 4:30 PM in the Boardroom. Planning Ahead November - First Week: Sale of Christmas Cakes begin. Grice, The Salvation Army, Victoria Citadel, will share their message with us. Mr. Brian Russell, also of the Salvation Army, will also share with us again this year. We hope you will join us to honor the memory of those who died in the wars of , , the Korean Conflict and the Peace Keepers (continuing to this day). However, we are hopeful the Annual Christmas Party & Fundraiser and other incidental Administrative fund raisers will continue to be successful. 6 KiwanisSIGN KiwanisSIGN was recognized as a PNW District-wide humanitarian service initiative in June On October 22, 2013, Ann Penner, PNW District SIGN Co-Chair was our Luncheon Speaker. Ann used power-point graphics to show what is involved in the surgical implants that surgeons use to heal otherwise untreatable injuries to children, family caregivers and primary wage earners in developing countries throughout the world. Most extreme trauma in the world occurs in developing countries, much of it the result of traffic accidents on roads where pedestrians and cyclists share the same space with trucks, buses, cars and animals. Nearly 300 SIGN Surgery Centres are operating in 55 countries in Asia, Latin America, and Africa. And more than 110,000 trauma victims have been returned to productive lives since SIGN Fracture Care International's inception in Injuries that would otherwise left victims bedfast for life are now being healed daily. We noted that Past Lt. Governor Dodie Negrich of Div. 17 introduced the KiwanisSIGN program a number of years ago to Victoria's Kiwanis Clubs. Our Club has a 'banner patch' earned for contributions made at that time. KiwanisSIGN saves families by healing children's trauma and by restoring severely injured wage earners and caregivers to productive lives. KiwanisSIGN serves impoverished people in developing countries, who pay nothing for the benefits they receive. KiwanisSIGN is changing the world... one trauma victim at a time! Our Club members thanked Ann Penner for her very informative, well presented message on this most important Kiwanis project. Changing the World Kiwanis World Service Medal laureate (1997), Lewis G. Zirkle, Jr., MD used the $10,000 prize he received from the Kiwanis International Foundation to help found SIGN Fracture Care International. His ambitious goal: Creating Equality of Fracture Care Throughout the World.
