1 July 2011 Volume #10 No. 7 P.O. Box 1234, Gainesville, GA Carolina Club s Weekend July 21st 23rd Summer Drive To Amicalola Falls Saturday, August 27th Summer Drive To Mt. Pisgah Inn And Little Switzerland, NC Thursday, July 21st To Saturday, July 23rd Submitted by: Dave Kirkman There is still time to register for the Summer Overnight Drive to Mt. Pisgah Inn and on to the Carolina Jaguar Club s Head for the Mountains event at Little Switzerland, NC. ( We will gather at the DQ in Clayton, GA at 11:00 am on Thursday before heading on to the Blue Ridge Parkway and our Thursday night destination of the Mount Pisgah Inn. (reservations at: ) Friday morning after breakfast we will continue our drive along the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway at a leisurely pace stopping at various points along the way. We will arrive at the Little Switzerland Inn in plenty of time to check in and relax before joining our friends from the Carolina Jaguar Club for a spectacular sea food buffet. Continued on page 5 Overnight To Highlands, NC Friday and Saturday, August 5th, 6th, 2011 and Make A Wish Charity Car Show Submitted by Dave Kirkman Our club s second overnight of the year is to the Highlands and Cashiers area of North Carolina. Highlands is a wonderful weekend destination to get away from the late summer heat and humidity of Atlanta and support a very worth charity, too! The Make a Wish Charity Car Show is on Saturday. All the proceeds from this non-judged car show go directly to the Make a Wish charity. This marvelous charity helps fund critically ill children s wish to attend some special event, theme park, or meet a very important person in their life. Often the outcome from these experiences aid in the miraculous recovery from the serious ills that these children have. The fifty dollar ($50.00) contribution to the Make a Wish Charity not only covers your entrance to place your car in the show, goodie bags, and tickets for two to the social hour on Saturday following the show, plus two tickets for brunch at the historic High Hampton Inn and County Club on Sunday. Gang, the brunch alone at the High Hampton cost far more that the $50.00 contribution so is this a deal or what? There are several choices for lodging in the area. Continued on page 7 PRESIDENT S CORNER by Pat Harmon Summer is upon us and there s nothing better than getting out in the Jag with your friends. Speaking of friends we certainly had a grand time at our recent Jags N Friends picnic at Roswell park. We had a great turnout and super BBQ. Our thanks to Brian Hernan for all his hard work making this event a success. We have a number of events in the works thanks to Dave Kirkman, our VP and Grand ol Rallymaster. Please check out his articles in this newsletter and also the club calendar. Pick an event that suits your fancy and BE THERE! On a more serious note, our friend Jack Sweeney has stepped down from our Club Secretary position and we really appreciate all he has done over the past three years. Jack, thank you very much. John Hollier has volunteered to step into this position and the Board is looking forward to working with him. Welcome John! Pat Picnic Number 5 Witness To Another Beautiful Day Submitted by:john Baxa I m not sure how we ve been able to pick dates five years in a row without bad weather, but this year s annual Jags N Friends picnic was another in a series of good times without any weeping skies. The animated sequel to Cars managed to maintain Pixar s streak of box-office number ones in its opening weekend June 24th-26th. The merchandise-friendly franchise took in $68 million over the weekend according to distributor Walt Disney Studios. That makes it the 12th consecutive Pixar movie to top the box-office charts. Thanks to higher ticket prices and expensive 3-D screenings, Cars 2 enjoyed the fifth-biggest opening for a Pixar film ever. In terms of attendance, however, the Cars 2 debut was ahead of only A Bug s Life, Ratatouille and the beloved company s first feature film, 1995 s Toy Story. As David Hobbscap, fans of racer-turned-announcer David Hobbs will find the character s resume familiar. Voiced by the venerable Hobbs, the 1963 Coombs Lightweight E-type hails from Royal Leamington Spa, England. Just like Hobbs, Hobbscap has 20 Le Mans starts under his belt and has retired from racing to become a broadcaster. Along with Brent Mustangberger and Darrell Cartrip, Hobbscap provides color commentary for the World Grand Prix, as Lightning McQueen and the rest of the challengers vie for the win. Ratatouille producer Brad Lewis steps into the director s chair for this sequel that follows racing legend Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) and his trusty sidekick, Mater (Larry the Cable Guy), as they secure their passports and take part in the biggest race on the planet. As the first-ever World Grand Prix approaches, cars from every continent prepare for the ultimate competition. But who will have what it takes to become the fastest car on the planet? Just as Lightning McQueen edges up to the starting line, however, his old pal Mater gets sidetracked on a top-secret spy mission that takes him from Japan to Europe as the entire world watches. Thankfully Mater s friends are always willing to lend a helping wheel, and as the race gets under way, everyone shifts into high gear to help out an old friend. Page 2
