1 June 2014 Volume #13 No. 6 P.O. Box 1234 Gainesville, GA Eighth Annual North Georgia Jaguar Club Picnic Moved to Saturday, June 28 TH NGJC 2014 PICNIC ENTRY FORM on page 7 Carolina Jaguar Club s Blue Ridge Mountain Concours July 17th to the 20th Join us on the web! PRESIDENT S LETTER WE NEED YOUR HELP The Fall Concours is the single most attended event of the year. It is a celebration of all things Jaguar complete with a silent auction for charity and a fabulous lunch at the Chattahoochee Country Club in Gainesville. But the core of the event is the Concours and we need judges! The NGJC Concours has always been regarded as one of the very best and Craig Kerins, our new Chief Judge, really needs all our support this year as he moves into his new position. Craig has scheduled Judges Training for Saturday, June 21, at Hennessey Gwinnett. Please RSVP with him at or craigkerins@ knology.net so he will have enough material printed to conduct the training and the club will have enough qualified judges to host a high quality Concours for those entrants who show their car. If you have never judged before come and be an apprentice and learn the process. This is an excellent way to learn more about your own Jag too. June is also our annual Jags and Friends picnic. This is a good opportunity to invite a friend to tag along and bring his special car. We had a great turnout last year and I want to encourage everyone to come out and Continued on page 2 You Be The Judge... Submitted by Craig Kerins The Jaguar Club of North America requires all judges to be certified, a process which involves a short course, practice judging, and passing an open-book test. The certification process is required every three years, but our club has done well with the judges participating annually in a short training exercise. The Concours is one of our premier events, and is dependent on a team of enthusiastic, competent judges. This year we are having a training session on Saturday, June 21 at Hennessy Jaguar Gwinnett. I d like to encourage all of our judges to participate. I d like to invite anyone interested in becoming a judge to come as well. If you can come, please let me know. Craig Kerins craigkerins@knology.net Wayne and Linda Phear s 1961 E-type Takes First in Class at Prestigious Pinehurst Concours d` Elegance Submitted by John Baxa The Second Annual Pinehurst Concours d` Elegance was held under sunny skies on the perfectly manicured fairways of the legendary Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, North Carolina on Sunday, May 3rd. Over one hundred and twenty Concours cars were on display and judged in twelve different classes. Best in Show went to a 1931 V16 Cadillac 452A, owned by Mr. Charles Gillet of Lutherville, Maryland. Wayne and Linda Phear s 1961 Flat Floor E-type took First Place in Class 5 - Sports and GT Cars 1946 to The Phear s Opalescent Gunmetal Grey E-type was the tenth car produced and was used by Corporate Jaguar at the New York City Car show in the 2011 celebration of the introduction of the E-type. JCNA member Avery Wise also had his 1967 E-type FHC entered in the same class. Of Particular interest to Concours attendees was the 1956 Jaguar XKSS that previously belong to Steve McQueen. The car was on loan from the Petersen Museum, Los Angles, California, and provided a rare opportunity to see this very special car as it seldom leave the museum. This car drew admiring crowds all weekend long. David Kirkman served as a judge again this year and was assigned to Class 10 Limited Production Cars. The class included a 1962 Muntz Jet, a 1954 SIATA, among other rare marques. First place went to a 1969 Iso Grifo. The Third Annual Pinehurst Concours d` Elegance is scheduled for the weekend of May 5 7, 2015.

4 Carolina Jaguar Club s Blue Ridge Mountain Concours July 17th to the 20th Submitted by Gregg Gaylard Head for the Mountains with the Carolina Jaguar Club for our 2014 Concours in the lovely Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. This is a sanctioned JCNA Concours event, judged by the rules available at The Concours is held at the Switzerland Inn in Little Switzerland, North Carolina. The Switzerland Inn offers a lovely setting on the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains and is just a few hundred yards from the Blue Ridge Parkway near mile post 334. We can guarantee cooler temperatures at this mountain top location versus what you would be experiencing in the lowlands in July! Check out for more information about the Inn. The Carolina Jaguar Club has held their annual JCNA sanctioned Concours at the Inn for several years now and offers a full range of activities. If you plan to arrive on Thursday evening you can join us for our Thursday night cookout. Meet old friends and make new ones. At 9 am on Friday we will be depart the Inn for our drive event being led by a custom Jaguar F Type Coupe built specifically for our event! This morning drive will take you through beautiful landscapes of the Blue Ridge Mountains to historic downtown Asheville. We will park our coveted cats in a reserved section of the Asheville tourist information center then hop on board an open air Gray Line trolley for a guided tour of the Montford and Grove Park historic districts, the Grove Park Inn, Grovewood Gallery, art deco rich downtown, the River Arts district and Biltmore Village ( com). Upon the tour s completion (approx. 1hr. 40 min.) we will convoy to a parkade close to the Pack s Tavern for an a la carte lunch ( After lunch you may choose to continue exploring what Asheville has to offer on your own or head back to the hotel via the Blue Ridge Mountain Parkway or other route of choice to prepare your car for Saturday s Concours. Friday evening join us on the patio for a sponsored cocktail party using the complimentary drink coupons in your registration packet, and should that not be enough a cash bar is available. Then try the Inn s Seafood and Prime Rib in an informal setting with the balance of the evening being yours to enjoy as you see fit. take time to appreciate the scenery, mingle with fellow club members and swap Jaguar and perhaps the occasional Lucas based tales of temperamental electron flow. Saturday is our main event, the Concours. Wash stations for Cats will be available all day Friday and early Saturday morning. The show field will be open to the general public on Saturday with no entry fee. For Saturday lunch, a buffet of cold cuts will be available or you may order à la carte in the Switzerland Inn restaurant. During the day there will be a Silent Auction with a selection of items available for you to bid on. Proceeds raised will benefit our Concours Sponsored Charity, USO of North Carolina. Saturday evening everyone is encouraged to sign up for our gala awards Banquet and Awards ceremony where you ll have your choice of the Chef s carved beef and pork tenderloin, Bourbon pecan trout, Hoppin John chicken, plus all the fixin s. 5 Concours categories as well as the always popular People s Choice winner. If history repeats we can count on the staff of the Inn to go above and beyond with respect to food quality, choice and fantastic service! Sunday you are on your own to spend the day as you wish. The Little Switzerland area has a number of shops to vie for your attention. On your way home you may want to experience more great twisty and scenic driving roads in the area. The tallest peak east of the Mississippi, Mount Mitchell, is an easy drive down the Blue Ridge Parkway. It may seem like cheating but you can drive right to the top! Other major NC mountain attractions, such as Grandfather Mountain, the Boone area, Linville Falls, Asheville, and the Biltmore Estate are nearby as well. So make plans to join us this July. Please make your hotel reservations directly with the Switzerland Inn. For details, visit www. Switzerlandinn.com and be sure to mention the Carolina Jaguar Club for your discount.
