1 The Spring Newsletter March st Issue EDENTON, NC
2 Our 60 th year The Old Dominion Packard Club was founded in 1958 to preserve and enjoy Packard automobiles, as well as the interesting and diverse history of the Packard Motor Car Company. The idea sprang from the mind of Herb Hulvey. Postcards were sent to all known Virginia Packard owners proposing the establishment of a club devoted to the Packard marque, since it was clear that Packards would no longer be built. The Old Dominion Packard Club is independent and not affiliated with any other organization. The Club holds two functions each year a Spring Tour held during the fourth weekend of April and a Fall Tour during the fourth weekend of O ctober. Cars are judged every other year during the Fall Tour. Dues for the Old Dominion Packard Club are $20 annually. 10 1928 Packard Club Sedan 443 This car is currently in the Sweet Home, Oregon area. Asking price is based on the appraised value at $25,000, but I have been given the latitude to be most negotiable with this asking price, and I am in a position that I WILL be most flexible on the price. The car does not run and hasn t for about 10 years. If interested, see the PDF appraisal and photos: 1928 Packard. This car really does needs a home where someone can provide the deserved attention that it needs. Greg Malin (Greg.Malin@CH2M.com) 10

12 Old Dominion Packard Club Newsletter First Issue Borge St., Oakton, VA FIRST CLASS In 1939, Packard became the first car manufacturer to offer air conditioning as an option. The cooling system is located in the trunk, rather than in the dash, and you have to manually install or remove the drive belt from the A/C compressor to turn the system on or off. The option costs $274 at a time when the average yearly income is $1,368. By the time the U.S. entered World War II, Packard had installed only 1,200 air-conditioning units in the cars and ceased to offer that option.
