Judy Sobczak has planned a day filled with fun games like the Cup of Water race, a Double Jeopardy Cones Course, gymkhana type games and perhaps even a Poker Run. Following the festivities there will be a dish-to-pass lunch. This is going to be an enjoyable day for ALL of our members. 3 ~ PRESIDENT S LETTER ~ Greetings! 2014 is half over already, show season is in full swing and CVCA is busy. The Larry Poulin clinic was a great success. THANK YOU Sandi Patrizio for another wonderful job organizing and running the clinic. While I, unfortunately, couldn t attend, word is that all had a fun and educational weekend. Thank you to all of the volunteers who also helped to make it all happen. The Lorenzo Driving Competition is coming up and we are looking for volunteers to help set up and man the CVCA booth at the show. Good luck to all of our CVCA members competing this year! CVCA is also a Gold Sponsor of the new Lorenzo Fun Drive which will be held on Sunday for those not showing but who wish to drive the Lorenzo Pleasure drive. The fun drive will run after the competitors have all gone on course. Contact Judy Sears for more information. I hope you can join us on July 27 th at Nichols Pond Park in Canastota for the 3 rd Annual Summer Picnic. Thank you Judy Cary for securing the reservation for the pavilion. For those of you who haven t heard, Jeanne Fero is recovering from an equine accident in June. Give her a call or send her a card. I m sure she d love to hear from you. Get well soon Jeanne! 5 ** Larry Poulin Clinic ** The weekend of June 27, 28, 29 was a busy time for some C.V.C.A. members and their horses. Nine horses of varying sizes, horse trailers, carts and their owners/whips converged on the Equine Rehabilitation Center in Morrisville on Friday afternoon. The stalls were ready and generously bedded. Two more equines arrived at a later time. This was the third year C.V.C.A. hosted a two or more day clinic with Larry Poulin there. Mr. Poulin s reputation precedes him. He is well known in the riding/driving world as a dressage guru. However, Larry works with each driver/horse combination at their level of learning. His goal is to achieve a more balanced horse that enables them to better do their job. Each driver came away from these lessons with some pointers and techniques to practice. Everyone seemed encouraged with the results. Most people took two lessons, one each day, 50 minutes a session. Mr. Poulin had a full schedule starting at 8:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m. with a break for lunch. Lunch was provided by the club for a nominal price. Larry and his wife, Christine, were welcomed with a casual reception dinner on Friday evening at the Copper Turret restaurant in Morrisville. The restaurant focuses on locally grown products and is part of the S.U.N.Y. Morrisville Agricultural/Culinary program. Saturday evening there was a Dish to Pass supper followed by a question and answer discussion. Everyone was welcome to attend. Participation in the clinic was not a pre-requisite. At the end of the day on Sunday, after the horses were attended to and carts were loaded onto trailers or trucks, some people just hung around and chit chatted with Larry and his wife. Again, the response was overwhelming to invite him back in spring of We have discussed several dates. I must mention, the footing in the arena at the Rehab. Center was much better!!! Everyone was pleased. The mini s opted to take their session on the grass outdoors because the weather was beautiful and besides footing, it was cooler outdoors. Thank you to the many volunteers that helped that weekend. Mostly, thank you to Freshwind Farm, Jillian Sheehan, Joe Hafele and Purina Feeds, for their consistent support of this project. It has always been a goal of the Cherry Valley Carriage Association to further advance the knowledge of our whips/drivers no matter what your personal goals in driving are be it recreational or competitive. Terri is home and is doing well. She is planning on helping at the CVCA booth on Saturday of the Lorenzo Driving Competition. Please stop by and say Hi to her. We re glad you re back, Terri! Jeanne Fero Jeanne recently sent CVCA a card to thank all of you who have been sending cards or calling to see how I m doing. Needless to say that this accident did a lot of damage Thank you again for all of your warm wishes and prayers. Jeanne is now home. She is currently receiving therapy at home but is hoping that by next week she can actually start driving and go to therapy right there in Chittenango. We so happy, Jeanne, that you re doing well. We re hoping that Jeanne and Terri are both feeling well enough by the end of the month to join us at the summer picnic. In the meantime, please drop them a line or give them a call. They would love to hear from you. 7

9 REMINDER Don t forget to get your raffle tickets for the Foldable Harness/Tack Rack! The club is raffling a collapsible harness/tack rack. The rack works much like a laundry drying rack. It very easily folds up for ease in storing or transporting to an event. It is very lightweight. The rack will be traveling to the various CVCA events throughout the year. The winner will be drawn at the Fall dinner/meeting in November Please consider taking tickets to sell to all your horse friends. Hopefully, at some point, pictures of the rack will be available on the CVCA website.
