2 COMMODORE: SUE MILLER April showers bring boats to the yard.. Tick Tock Tick Tock..boats are getting restless to get back in the water. I know everyone will be busy getting their boats ready.when you need a break there are plenty of things going on at the club. Stop on up, get a drink and meet some other members. In March, Gentleman Wayne and I were busy again. We attended FYC, MBC and BVYC balls. After the MBC ball, we went to save James from ORYC only to have him leave to BVYC the next day. We also greeted all the different buses. Attended a ball fundraiser for DBBC VC Dennis, bowling fundraiser for AYC VC Stan, and ball fundraiser for RVYC Commodore Matt. We also enjoyed having PC Jerry, Lady Anna and the other 18 s serve us at the Commodore/Vice Commodore spaghetti dinner. We opened the bar up and got the St Patrick s Day bus trip off to Detroit with some bloody mary s and mimosa s before heading to Detroit to join PC John Hopper at Mariner s Church for the blessing of the burgees along with Secretary Kathy, Gentleman Chad, Seaway Commodore Paul and Lady Marilyn. Learned some valuable information at PC Jerry s CPR class. Attended Name that Tune at the club. Lastly, assisted Marty cooking corned beef and ending the day with the St. Patrick s Day party. With all that, we cannot thank everyone enough for helping with food donations, selling 50/50, setting up, and cleaning up for all these buses. We know this is a lot this year on the club members, everyone wants to see the new club. We are winding down with a couple more to go. Also, thank you to everyone that helped Marty cook, serve, clean up, donated desserts and helped with the party. Than there was the surprise clean up crew in the morning while I was taking care of my Grandma. THANK YOU!! Also, we would not have a club without all the volunteer bartenders, THANK YOU EVERYONE for keeping us open. Coming up in April we have SeBC and HVYC ball s, incoming buses, kids Easter Party, Fish Fry and Opening of the Port s fundraiser. Plans are under way to get the outside going in front of the club. We still have lots to do and are working on it. We greatly appreciate the patience. We are all volunteers just like you, please remember that. Most of us have full time jobs and try to balance this with work and family. Please remember, if you do not have your membership card, you must sign in and you will be asked for your name to confirm you are a member. If you have guest come, you need to sign them in as a guest of you and if you leave, they need to as well. I know some are frustrated getting asked if they signed in, but we have had 29 years of members getting us to where we are today, no one wants to have it ruined by having a random stop by the liquor commission and getting shut down or fined for not following the rules. If you visit other clubs, you will need to have your card on you, they should be asking, we get asked from time to time. Also, please remember to clean up after you and your guests. In regards to the ball fundraisers, thank you everyone for donating bottles to the YETI cooler, tickets are selling. They are $10 and can be purchased at the bar. If anyone would still like to donate a bottle, we would appreciate it. Also, May 17th is the comedy show and tickets are available on sign-up genius and are limited to 80 tickets. Welcome to the numerous new members, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. Hope to see you at the club this month! Sue
3 VICE COMMODORE: JIM RYAN Did we just have some 65 and 66 degree days? April is turning the corner for us and boating season is around the corner! We are looking forward to opening the garage doors at the Club and purchasing the outdoor furniture and finishing the green areas in front of the patio! It won t be long now! Lady Terri and I took some time to head to the British Virgin Islands after a very successful DJ night at the Club. We stopped in at the Soggy Dollar and left our SSBC burgee along with a First Responder badge. The manager at Soggy Dollar was kind enough to bring us behind the bar for pictures and then took the time afterwards to tack the burgee in place. Not having been on a sailboat that size before, we relied on the expertise of fellow member Rick Marcum and Kat Marcum for organizing and sailing for almost 10 days to Jost Van Dyke, Anegada, the Baths and of course, the Willie T. It was an EPIC vacation! Thanks to Commodore Sue for covering for us while we were gone. Also, Thanks to Commodore Sue Miller for organizing the St. Patrick s Day party and to all the bartenders that kept the members hydrated while dancing to the sounds of Rock Bottom. Look for this group to play again later this year. The NAME THAT TUNE game night was a great success, especially since Michigan State also played that evening. You ended up keeping your eye on the game and trying to guess the song all at the same time. What s coming up? April 6 Spring Party!! Celebrate launching our boats with this JUMP into Spring entertainment is planned April 12 Trivia night with Lori Stoddart A fun night with a Battle of the Sexes Planned! April 14 Jr. SunSeeker s Easter Party Come see the Easter Bunny with games and lots planned! April 19 Good Friday Fish Fry tickets are $12 in advance. Last day to put in your order is APRIL 10TH, so we can order the food. Dinner includes Cod Filets, French fries, coleslaw, tarter sauce, rolls & butter. May 4 Cinco de Mayo Party Enjoy the celebration at SunSeekers as we will be entertained by Night Train! May 19 Jr. Sunseekers Fishing Curt and Shannon Campau s house on Horse Island June 28/29 - Sunseekers Regatta Live Bands both Evenings M125 and Drop 3rd Strike July 20 - Dinghy Thing/Canal Crawl through the canals of Gibraltar to finish at the club for a party. Club members/friends and AYC members only, please. Till next month, DILLY DILLY! Vice Commodore, Jim Ryan
4 REAR COMMODORE: TERI UPHOLZER SunSeeker s, What a great feeling to feel the warmth return, hear the Robins and other birds chirping in the morning, see the grass slowly turn green, see buds on the trees, see fishing boats heading up and down the canal and see shrink wrap in the garbage. The best feeling though is, BOATING SEASON and we are almost there! PC Jeff Upholzer and myself attended the AYC cruise on the Norwegian Bliss. The stops were St. Thomas, Tortola and Nassau. Another fun time with so many AYC friends! If you are looking for a fun vacation next year, consider joining the AYC Class of 2019 in Punta Cana, March 14-21,2020. See Commodore Sue Miller, PC Jeff Upholzer, or myself for additional information. Many THANKS to Commodore Sue Miller, Gentleman Wayne, Steve Deters, Derrick Ball, and all the bartenders who successfully covered the bar while I was out of town. You are all amazing! We also attended the AYC Bowling fundraiser for AYC Vice Commodore, Stan Ziemkiewicz, in which we were part of the fundraising committee. This is an annual event in case you are interested in forming a team next year and participating. It is a fun event! In addition, we attended MBC s Ball and RVYC s final breakfast fundraiser of the season. While not yet confirmed, we are considering having the club open this summer, Tuesday Thursday at 2:00pm, and Friday - Sunday at 12:00pm. If I can get members confirmed to cover these shifts each week, it will eliminate the need for full-time bartenders, resulting in a cost savings for the club. If you are interested in bartending at least one afternoon or evening each week this summer, please let me know ASAP. These hours will count towards your annual work hours. If you are a member and interested in bartending but have not shadowed a current bartender, please let me know. I will set you up to shadow another bartender. This is an excellent means to meet members and get your work hours in! Please have your club card available in case a bartender asks for it. With the increase in membership and new bartenders, we are all trying to get to know who is who, but in the meantime, we need to be certain those ordering drinks are members. NOTE: SSBC members should order drinks for their guests. Guests should not order their own drink. This is per our liquor license agreement. Members, if you do not FOB in, you must sign the book located in the lobby. Also, guests must always sign the book. If you leave the club, your guest must leave with you unless another SSBC member agrees to care for your guest. In this case, it will require the guest to sign the book again as the guest of the other SSBC member. Members are responsible for their guests. To have some fun, remember to have your guests like our Facebook page while visiting the club. When they click like the number on the Facebook counter changes. The Facebook counter is located behind the bar, on top of the cabinet between the TVs. Let s make April a month to remember! Teri Upholzer 2019 Rear Commodore
