2 WINDCREST EAST HOA BOD MEETING JANUARY 13, 2012 The meeting was called to order by Felicia Ayoub at 4:00 P.M. The attendees were Felicia Ayoub, Walter Blanck, Barbara Caramore, Linda Nemeth and Jack Tyniec. The Minutes of the meeting of December 9, 2011 were reviewed, Motion made by Linda and seconded by Walter to accept the Minutes; all in favor, Motion approved. Financial Report January checks through January 25 totaled $35, Financials for December will not be available until Feb. 3rd or later due to year-end closing of the books at PAM. Next month's report will have figures for December and January. Old Business Once again, the owner at (address) has still not heard from Larry Gargano or Greenview Properties regarding the inspection of the retaining wall on the property. It has been suggested that they contact their attorney and have their attorney send a letter to Greenview. The BOD is still considering estimates received from contractors for the repair of the walkways at the Clubhouse. New Business A Motion was made by Jack and seconded by Linda to approve the existing slate of officers, suggesting that they that remain in their existing positions, all in favor, Motion approved. A Motion was made by Barbara, seconded by Walter, to approve the capital reserve plan and proposed annual increases in homeowner fees as presented by Jack Tyniec at the HOA Annual Meeting on December 15, Said funds are to be collected out of the maintenance charges paid by the homeowners of the community. The reserve fund is to be used solely for the future repair of both the general common elements of the community, common areas of the homeowners association and the roofs and siding of the individual homes. The Board makes no representation that the reserve funds will be adequate for future expenses, including repairs or replacement of common elements and common areas; all in favor, Motion approved. The lawsuit pending before the Supreme Court of the State of New York is in the hands of the Court. We are awaiting further updates. An excellent job was done by Luis Calle Inc. repairing the outside rear wall of the Poolhouse. A motion was made by Walter, seconded by Jack to hire Luis Calle Inc. to replace stone and repair the outside walls of the Gatehouse, all in favor, Motion approved. The signs at the entrance to Windcrest East have been replaced, out of necessity, by green signs which enhance the entry. Jack reviewed the 2012 monthly budget allocations with the BOD. The BOD as well as individual homeowners have received letters signed the Windcrest Community. Windcrest is a community with an HOA and a BOD and cannot be represented by a person or persons representing the Windcrest Community. Unless all homeowners are represented in a letter, it is not a work of the Windcrest community. We all have names, any anonymous request or complaint will not be acknowledged. 6 FYI Computer Tips from Jack Tyniec Over the past few months, several neighbors have asked me for help with their computers and I've noticed that most people are not using some basic precautions in security and backup. Security - It's important for everyone to have anti-virus protection and an internet firewall. Anti-virus protection can be purchased or activated for free via Windows. The commercial packages are many and include Norton, McAfee, Kaspersky and many others. Recent versions of Windows come with a complete security suite (Microsoft Security Essentials) that can be activated easily and does not require a paid subscription. All you have to do is go to Control Panel and select Windows Defender and Windows Firewall and activate them. These programs will protect your computer against viruses, malware, phishing and other intrusions. Those of you who use Optimum Online can download their free security suite. Here's the URL for Optimum's Security Suite: Also, Open DNS is a free web service that provides web filtering, prevents malware, botnets and phishing. It can also help speed up your internet connection. The URL is: Backup - Too many people lose all their data (files, photos, documents, etc.) when their computer crashes and can't be recovered. Most people buy a new computer and start over without any of their historical data. This can easily be prevented by using an external hard drive backup device and running a backup every few weeks or monthly. These backup drives have come down dramatically in price over the last few years and one can be had with 1 terabyte of data (1,000 gigabytes) for about $100. This will allow for several backups for even those with lots of photos, documents, music and videos. Connections are usually via USB cable and setup is very easy. You just have to remember to run the backup periodically. Another alternative is a web-based service called Carbonite that automatically backs up your information over the internet. This service costs $59 per year, but provides peace of mind in case both your computer and backup drives are lost in a fire or other catastrophe. CLOTHING STILL NEEDED When you clean out your closets, if you have any clean, usable clothing you no longer want, call Bruno Meloni at He will collect them and take them to the Living Waters Church, Riverhead, for use by the needy in the town. They are in need of warm, winter clothes and shoes now. The mailbox in the clubhouse for The Breeze is now being used as a suggestion box for the Social Committee as well. Any ideas you may have for them may be dropped in the box. Please note: this is not for maintenance or landscaping forms. Thanks. And one more thing: The Web address for Windcrest East is The Breeze is published on this site as well as other information for all homeowners. The address for The Breeze is: thewebreeze@optonline.net. All community activities, notices and other information to be added to The Breeze or the calendar must be submitted in writing, not later than the 25 th of the month. Please heed the speed limit (15 mph) in the community. Make your guests aware of this too. Please keep your cars off the street during any snowstorms. AROUND TOWN: Calverton / Baiting Hollow Civic Association meets every 2nd Wednesday of each month, at 7:30 p.m. in the Riley Avenue School cafeteria.
