The new Long Weekend saw us travel to Kyogle which was another successful weekend for those who attended a lot of fun had by all, I ll leave the rest for the ride report.our Odyssey is on again this month, so again we would like to have your support, if you can t make it for the whole weekend try and make a day trip on the Saturday as all the proceeds go to the local Rural Fire Brigade and the Lions make their money from our support of their Bar & BBQ. 8 Mick Spitzers...13th David Condi...22nd Irene Hornigold...27th *If we missed you please contact the Editor to update the records. You are oh-so-elegant and tasteful to the point of incurring nausea from loved ones. You are also bipolar as hell and can't make a decision on your own. You usually consult your therapist or TV Guide. Libras are trendy and malleable folks. They are funny because they will glom onto something they hated before if it suddenly becomes fashionable. Velour is not entirely lost upon these people. Libras eat a lot of ethnic food from cultures they don't understand. They singlehandedly started the cappucino movement. Ask them why, and they will claim something unintelligible about solidarity. You constantly worry about what other people think. If you really paid any attention, maybe people would like you more. Libras use quotes from David Mamet plays to describe philosophical concepts. Then they have those concepts engraved upon nice little wallet cards. The Libran interest in current events ends with the Myer catalogue. They don't eat fast food or have any clue where their trash goes. They have other people tie their expensive shoes. Only two Libras have ever been found in thrift stores. All of their bell-bottoms were colour-coordinated to match their lamé turtlenecks. Libras are always on the cutting edge of what the rest of us think is absolute pretentious bulls**t. They have huge collections of CDs they've never even listened to. Libras give to designer charities. Hollywood is full of Libras. You are the reason butterfly hairpins and parachute pants have made a comeback. Next on the list is those big jam shorts. You probably never threw out your old pair. Hang on to your Winger t-shirt too. Get a Libra as drunk as possible and he or she will still be able to explain the difference between café latté and café au lait. This is peculiar as the rest of us know that there is no difference at all. Happy Birthday Libra! Page 8 Ulysses Club Inc. Redcliffe Branch Newsletter October 2012

Apparently the Blues Rally was a Brilliant time had by all..so good in fact, that there are no photographs and no reports...must have been a good time, pity the rest of wont know about it... Major Ma from Logan Ulysses had an unfortunate incident with a stray dog who bit off the first knuckle on her left hand and she has broken bones in her right hand from fending a stray dog who had attacked her own dogs. She is out of hospital and in high spirits as she described herself as looking like a boxer with her hands all bandaged up! Tracy Webber also a member of Logan Ulysses left Major Ma s house on the 20th of September and was T boned by a car not long after. No head injuries I'm told, possibly a broken leg and lower body injuries. And I am informed she has been released from Logan hospital. Don Greg is in England at the moment putting a dent in their beer supplies and I have included some photos of him in this months edition If you have any notices that you would like to put in the mag, please let me know. 10 Queen s Birthday Weekend Ride to Kyogle. After speaking Smokey ( our rider leader) and finding out about the ride because the new Ulysses website is total crap and you can t get any information off it (Bring back our site please as it worked so well after all the work that Michelle put into it.) I set off on Saturday morning heading to Macca s at Beaudesert ready to meet the rest of the riders that would be going on another club organized ride. I sat patiently, eating a burger & drinking a coffee as some riders started to enter the carpark. Smokey, Daz, Pumba, Ray & Di entered Macca s and I asked Smokey if more were meeting us here. The answer surprised me when he said that apart from Maurie meeting us at Kyogle this was it. It was made even worse when he said that it was supposed to be in conjunction with the Glasshouse club and that he rode 30k s up to BP south to meet them only to find out that none turned up. So, out of 100 plus members in Redcliffe & however many in Glasshouse, 6 bikes & 7 riders with Russell & Keren ( 9 bikes & 8 riders) meeting us in Nimbin from Sunday lunchtime till we parted company back at Macca s Beaudesert on Monday spent a great weekend enjoying each others company and laughing for 3 perfect days. Off we set down the Summerland way thru some very nice roads and curves taking our time enjoying the views and scenery as well as the sound of bikes on the road heading to Kyogle Caravan Park to set up camp & get ready for more riding. Page 10 Ulysses Club Inc. Redcliffe Branch Newsletter October 2012

Sunday morning up early ready to get riding. First stop Kyogle lookout with Maurie as ride leader (cause his dad told him about the place). We took in the sights and in 5 minutes we were back on the road (there weren t many as it is a small town) with Smokey taking over and headed for the Lions Road lookout to watch the train take the loop. For those who are interested there are numerous potholes, some small, some that would swallow our bikes if we weren t careful & fifteen bridges, some wooden, some concrete, some looking as though they are ready to collapse from Kyogle along the Lion s road up to the lookout.we know this cause it was Di s job to count them as she is our treasurer, if she can t get the number right, nobody can! It s quite an amazing feat of engineering the way the train is able to get over the range through a couple of tunnels and over a couple of bridges and believe me it works as during the night there are at least four trains heading both ways, don t know about during the day..too busy riding. After watching the train we set off again, back down the Lion s road stopping for morning coffee & scones at a nice café that has only been open for six months well worth the stop! Thru Kyogle after a quick fuel stop heading to Nimbin after a regulation U turn cause our ride leader missed the turn..not Maurie though as he knew the road well and turned right and took off, we caught up to him in Nimbin eating an ice cream and smiling at us knowingly. Page 11 Ulysses Club Inc. Redcliffe Branch Newsletter October 2012

Queen s Birthday Weekend at Kyogle The road to Nimbin would have been perfect if we were riding trail bikes cause we headed thru more road works & potholes looking forward to lunch and a well deserved rest from the bone shaking roads that we had encountered. It s an interesting place Nimbin. Smokey got asked twice if he would like to buy some cookies must be cause of his looks or was it because they thought he was starving? After meeting up with Russell & Keren, who had been attending a wedding and were unable to join us for the whole weekend we set off back to the caravan park we were camped at heading for a well deserved happy hour. Page 12 Ulysses Club Inc. Redcliffe Branch Newsletter October 2012

Queen s Birthday Weekend at Kyogle It may have been nicer if some more of the club members had decided to partake in a club event but the members that had participated enjoyed each others company as well as enjoying a well organized ride staying in a great caravan park in a nice part of the country, Thanks Smokey! * Ride Report contributed by Orphan ( Colin Goodman) Page 13 Ulysses Club Inc. 15 Don in the UK Having a quiet couple of beers with UK Ulysses members Mike and Chris at the White House Hotel in Guilford.. Hi All, here's a pic taken yesterday at the Ace Cafe, north west London, where I was able to catch up with some fellow Ulysses Club UK members. Chris picked me up on his Suzuki 1250 and ran me over there, boy oh boy, the traffic is horrendous not to mention the traffic lights!! Give me the open roads anyday!! Page 15 Ulysses Club Inc. 16 MotoGp News The San Marino MotoGP was certainly different, considering this is the heart of motorcycle racing the management of all three races was pretty poor. Unfortunately Dani Pedrosa was the biggest loser. It would seem that world wide TV coverage is considered more important than actual race protocols. From the time Abraham raised his hand until the start of the race was a comedy of errors by the race Director. The biggest winner was Valentino Rossi finishing second. Jorge Lorenzo had a straight forward ride after Pedrosa was taken out in the first lap. Casey Stoner is hoping to be fit in time for the Japanese MotoGP on 14th October. Also Mick Doohen will be completing a number of demonstration laps on a current Repsol Honda RC213V MotoGP machine at the Phillip Island MotoGP. Ducati have announced their line up for next year, Nicky Haydon & Andrea Divisiozo in the factory team, Ben Spies & Andrea Iannone in the Pramac Ducati satellite team. The provisional calender for 2013 has been released due to a leak from Louis Caperosi. Provisional 2013 MotoGP calender 31 March - Qatar* Doha/Losail 14 April -TBA 21 April - TBA 05 May - Spain (STC), Jerez 19 May - France, Le Mans 02 June - Italy, Mugello 16 June - Catalunya 29 June - Netherlands**, Assen 14 July - Germany, Sachsenring 21 July - United States***, Laguna Seca 18 August - Indianapolis 25 August - Czech Republic, Brno 01 September - Great Britain, Silverstone 15 September - San Marino, Marco Simonelli Misano 29 September - Aragon 13 October - Malaysia, Sepang 20 October - Australia, Phillip Island 27 October - Japan, Motegi 10 November - Valenia * Evening Race ** Saturday Race *** Only MotoGP class It's likely that the two missing races at the beginning of the season will be Texas, Circuit of The Americas and Argentina, Autodromo Termas de Rio Hondo. The Great Britain MotoGP has been moved to September to gain better weather conditions. Page 16 Ulysses Club Inc. Redcliffe Branch Newsletter October 2012

The Aragon MotoGP, the first two practice sessions were wet and many riders didn't go onto the track. On day two the weather started wet but by qualifying had become dry. Lorenzo took pole position with Pedrosa and Crutchlow making up the front row. The race was pretty uneventful with Lorenzo taking the lead for the first six laps. Pedrosa had several attempts to pass and when he did, continued to build a lead to go on and win by 6.4 seconds over Lorenzo. The best battle on the track was for third place and in the final laps it was between Crutchlow and Divizioso with the latter taking the place. The standings in the MotoGP Championship are:- 1 LORENZO Jorge SPA PEDROSA Dani SPA STONER Casey AUS DOVIZIOSO Andrea ITA CRUTCHLOW Cal GBR ROSSI Valentino ITA BAUTISTA Alvaro SPA BRADL Stefan GER HAYDEN Nicky USA SPIES Ben USA BARBERA Hector SPA DE PUNIET Randy FRA ESPARGARO Aleix SPA ABRAHAM Karel CZE HERNANDEZ Yonny COL PIRRO Michele ITA EDWARDS Colin USA ELLISON James GBR REA Jonathan GBR PASINI Mattia ITA PETRUCCI Danilo ITA SILVA Ivan SPA ELIAS Toni SPA RAPP Steve USA 2 25 SALOM David SPA 1 Casey Stoner has announced on his Blog on Repsol.com that he will be riding at the Japanese MotoGP. Although Casey has little chance of the Championship now he can make it interesting for Lorenzo and Pedrosa. David Waterfield Page 17 Ulysses Club Inc. Redcliffe Branch Newsletter October 2012

SEVEN MOUNTAINS RIDE Liz and I were up early on a bright, clear Sunday morning to get to the meeting point early for a chat and coffee with Smokie and a few of the other early birds. It was a good turn out for the ride with a mix of 23 riders from Redcliffe, Redlands and GlassHouse and the bikes were a bit of a mix too with 15 bikes (quiet a few Harleys), 1 Trike and 1 Spyder! Everyone was eager to go as the weather promised to be a nice one and Ray called us all together to give the route directions. Mount Cootha, Group up, Mount Crosby, Smoko, Mount Nebo, Mount Glorious, Lunch, Clear Mountain, Mount Sampson and Mount Mee, Pit Stop Cafe. We left the car park together, corner marking in the usual Ulysses fashion and found that apparently Harley boys do everything together including missing a corner marker (me) and sailing past waving! At least Smokie stayed with them to keep them company, that s his story and he s sticking to it. Russell took off after them like a sheep dog to round em all up while we pulled up in the shade waiting for them to join us back on the way to Mount Crosby. On the way to Mount Nebo we had a break down. Now I know your all saying, well what do you expect with all those Harleys? But it was Paul on his Triumph Street Triple that decided to open its box of electricals up and get an intermittent electrical fault and had to make his way home in case the old girl stopped all together. I think you should have brought the Rocket 3 Paul? SAFETY GIRL!! On the way down from Mount Glorious there were a couple of road works that had us stopping to wait for the portable red lights to change and allow the one way traffic to get through. At one of the stops Russell and Keren were beside Liz and I and I remarked that you can smell the brake pads of the vehicles in front of us. we got caught at the next set of lights and you could still smell the brakes...it was me! Page 18 Ulysses Club Inc. Redcliffe Branch Newsletter October 2012

Apparently Liz yelling slow down on the two way had caused the brakes on the back of Ruby to get very hot...honest. We stopped at the park and pub for a nice lunch and Liz and I cheekily ordered 2 kids meals as the prices were verging on daylight robbery, well, I can tell you the food was bloody good and cheep..crafty old buggers...hehe. The ride continued on with a few breaking away to go home before the last stop and Russell and I got separated from the rest of the group and he told them to continue on as we took a short cut and would join the group later. I said after 15 minutes hey, Russ how long before they get here? Thinking he would ask Ray, the ride leader or Daryl on the UHF band radios that they communicate on, just said Listen In the distance slowly coming up the hill you could hear the group coming up behind us about 2 or 3 kilometres away, and the noisiest bugger of all was Smokie. You can hear him for bloody miles! The last stop for the day was at the Pit Stop Cafe which turned out to be an eye opener for Liz and I as we had never been here before, Great place for a ride, LOTS to look at and the coffee and Carrot cake wasn't too shabby either. Smokie escorted us to the Bruce Highway and waved good bye as we took the Gold Coast turn off and headed home. A stop for petrol and a bum rub for Lizzy as hers was falling asleep (any excuse) and we coasted back home to the end of another great days ride. Thank you to Ray and everyone for the day out it was a cracker and we would do it again. Pete and LIzzy Page 19 Ulysses Club Inc. Redcliffe Branch Newsletter October 2012

Who Are You?!. The original photo's were taken at the end of 1968 in Singapore. The small bike is a 1960 Ducati 175 single. The blue bike a 1959 Triumph Tiger 100, 500cc twin. 44 years later that young fellow looks like this!!! and now rides BMW's Trish Wells was the only one who made the effort to guess and gets the scratchy ticket...good Luck Trish!! This months mystery person and the bikes he is on...????? Send your guesses to editor.red@hotmail.com GOOD LUCK!! Page 20 Ulysses Club Inc. Redcliffe Branch Newsletter October 2012

The words say it all power from the sun whatever you think about it good or bad, I like most tried to set up sufficient power with a generator; this became cumbersome in having to refill every 3 hours, smelly & noisy. Oh yes not to mention trying to start the thing! Looking around and speaking to others they suggest things like three way fridges which I do find appealing in away but you still have to carry a power supply or gas. Daz showed me his setup a solar unit that fit in his trailer with solar panels set up beside his tent he explained how it worked and it s potential, at first I like anyone a bit of a sceptic what about the cost of setting up the system. Did the sums and found that it was affordable and doable, so I set out to do it myself. First gather the required parts Solar Panel 85w, Regulator, Fuses 10 & 50 amp, Battery 120 ahr, battery box, Inverter 600w and electric cable & connectors. Material costs $800, Next seek advice from those in the know, and then get to it. Now installed only time will tell if success has been achieved fingers crossed! 23 Ride to Linville On Saturday the 1 st of September a few of us (5) went to inspect the Youth Camp just out of Linville on the Brisbane River. We met and left from BP north at 9.00am. Terry headed off earlier than us as he was meeting up with Budgie and his wife, and the dog. We met up with them at the show grounds at Kilcoy and they led the rest of the way in a car. Linville is a neat and tidy little town with only one Pub and a few homes. The road to the camp seemed to go on and on with ford crossings and bridge detours it was steady as you go, no accidents way out here. Although there was one problem Herby picked up a stick and had bits a piece caught everywhere, when we got to the camp it was noted that he had broken an indicator lens and bulb. He was most upset and had to try and get a new one for Sunday s ride. The funniest thing was as we arrived the teenagers were playing on the rope equipment, just near the entrance. Once we all parked our bike on the grass area the young ones came over to talk to us. Pumbaa, Smokey and Maurie were standing in the shade of a building when a young girl asked who rode which bike and said they all sounded great as we rode in. Then she said who was riding the SCOOTER the blue one which is so quiet. Well you know whose bike she was talking about!!!!! Yes it was Pumbaa s Gold Wing. He was so taken back that he couldn t say a word for at least a minute or until we stopped laughing. They said it was so quiet that it had to be a scooter; anyhow it is a BIG SCOOTER. We left there and headed home Via Mt Mee. What a day, lots of fun Page 23 Ulysses Club Inc. Redcliffe Branch Newsletter October 2012
