After my rant in last month s editorial I feel better that we were asked to select charities where we could made a real, personal difference. In other words stay away from the add your check to the big pile kind of charities. I ve had my C7 for just over a year now and, even though it is my daily driver, the new still hasn t worn off yet. The best part of the day is my drive to work and back... in almost 9000 miles I ve had only one problem, easily fi xed under warranty. Apparently GM got a bad batch of connectors for the Infotainment (navigation) screen and it stared rolling like an old tube TV. When I brought it to Friendly they replaced the whole unit even though it was working fi ne when I dropped it off. I was told I was the 5th C7 they had to fi x. By the way, Friendly has a special Corvette Service Rep who is very knowledgeable about Corvettes and very helpful in making your service visit as enjoyable as possible. 5 February 2015 Brunch By Charles Whitaker Paulette & Joe Wagner hosted the Corvette Club of Texas February 21st brunch at the Rio Mambo in Colleyville, Texas. There were 16 people in attendance consisting of Joe & Paulette Wagner, Mitch & Carol Factor, Jim & Joanne Iuele, Charles Whitaker, Bob & Paula Mischel, Ray & Pat Kimminau, Tom, Letty & Leslie Grabos, and Paul & Mary Wolter. I got turned around getting there, but I had a wonderful time. Paulette called me on my new cell phone and got me turned around and guided me to the restaurant. I had a delicious plate of blueberry pancakes and scrambled eggs with a huge pile of crispy bacon and an English Muffi n. After the brunch Mitch & Carol took me to Classic Chevrolet where we looked at new Corvettes for an hour or more. So thanks to Paulette & Joe for arranging the brunch and the other members for making it a perfect day for me. And a picture of our photographer, who never gets in the picture... 5

Sergeant : What is her height? Husband : Oh, 5 something... Sergeant : Build? Husband : Not slim, not really fat. Sergeant : Color of eyes? Husband : Never noticed. Sergeant : Color of hair? Husband : Changes according to season. Sergeant : What was she wearing? Husband : Dress/suit/blue jeans -- I don t remember exactly. Sergeant : Did she go in a car? Husband : yes. 9 PUPPY NICK By Melissa Leslie Many of you have met Puppy Nick and others have seen his photos in a CCT newsletter. But what is the deal with that dog? Let me tell you Nick s story and the story of Southeastern Guidedogs, Inc. (SEGD). Nick is a guide dog puppy in training. Carey and I are what SEGD calls volunteer Puppy Raisers. Nick is our 14 th guide dog puppy. We keep each dog for one year. We got Nick when he was 12 weeks and he is now 13 months old. It is our job to housebreak Nick, teach him good manners, dog obedience and socialization. Socialization means taking him to CCT meetings, out to dinner, church, etc. Our objective in socializing our puppies is to expose them to as many things and places as possible so that when they are working as a guide dog nothing will startle them or take their attention away from their job. When Nick wears his blue coat or his dog harness he is allowed in all public places. 13 weeks old (Ed: See Nick on page 6, attending our meeting.) 9 We are part of a group of puppy raisers in the DFW area. We meet 2 times a month for obedience, outings, and/or information meetings. Examples of our outings include a trip to Central Market, movie theater, riding DART and visiting a fire station or nursing home. DFW Puppy Raisers Nick has truly been a blessing in our lives this past year. He will be missed terribly when he goes back to school for his formal training. But we knew when we started this journey that we only get 12 months with Nick and every puppy that we raise. If all goes well, Nick has a much more important mission in life than to be our good boy. When Nick returns to the school on February 28th, he will go through a full health screening and will begin his harness training with the school s team of certified trainers. Most dogs train for 4 to 6 months before they reach class ready status. When class ready, the school will match them with the best candidate for them. Not all dogs become class ready, but all have a job to do. Some become therapy dogs, companion dogs for blind children, Veterans assistance dogs, bomb sniffers, search and rescue dogs or the best pet anyone could hope for. Carey and I are blessed to have had 10 out of our 13 become guide dogs. We believe Nick too will succeed in his training.

10 February 7, 2015 Mardi Gras Parade By Charles Whitaker Paul & Mary Wolter hosted the Corvette Club of Texas trip to Nocona, TX where we participated in the Mardi Gras Parade. We met at the QT station in Denton, TX and then drove the scenic route to Nocona where we had lunch at the Del Rio Mexican Restaurant. Then we drove to the parade grouping area near the high school. In the nine Corvettes with had 17 people, 15 club members and 2 guests. They were Paul & Mary Wolter, Mike & Debbie Garrison, Bob & Darlie Kee, Ray & Pat Kimminau, Mitch & Carol Factor, David & Kathryn Cooper, Ken & Jeanette Bradley, Charles Whitaker & guests Kraig & Kellie Gillian. 12 There was quite a varied assortment of parade entries and an interesting crowd lined the street in downtown Nocona. The high school band was also in the parade. I could have taken hundred of photographs, but I limited it to these since I had to drive, throw beads and take photos at the same time. A lot of our group went to the fi re station to feast on Cajun Food, but I drove to the Horton Classic Car Museum. Unfortunately, the museum was closed for, of all things, the Mardi Gras Parade. 12

15 Haltom City Car Show for Kids March 28, 2015 Fellow CCT members, The Haltom City Car Show for Kids is a month away. It is scheduled for Saturday, March 28th, 10:00a.m. - 2:00p.m., at the Haltom City High School parking lot, 5501 Haltom Rd. (just north of Hwy 820 and Haltom Rd.) The road construction is done, so it should be much easier getting there this year. At our February CCT meeting we voted to allow the club to pay the $25 registration fee per car. I handed out the registration forms at the last meeting. They are also attached to this newsletter. I need a head count by our March meeting to get enough spaces at the show reserved for our members. Last year our club received a trophy for most participation at the event. We had one more entry than the Mustang club. I sure don t want them to come back and beat us this year. Please do not be reluctant to show your Corvette. I m planning to enter my 1990 Corvette, and it s far from perfect. The judging is not as formal as an NCRS judging. Just wash it, vacuum it out, and join us for the show. All monies received go to benefi t the Haltom City school kids. Our participation really does help to make a difference. If you have any questions about this event please me carguy0347@aol.com. Or call me at either of the following numbers: (H) or (C). Sincerely, Jim Iuele CCT Treasurer 15

The guest speaker for the event is Sally Baskey, who is a humorist and motivational speaker whose message is how to use humor to get through life. Her trademark character, Ida Mae Fudpucker, uses humor to spoof management and the numerous corporate reorganizations that are inevitable, but troubling to employees. She provides the comic relief often needed at company meetings, training sessions, and conferences. 22 Sunday, May 31, :00 A.M.-12:00 Noon The Corvettes Cruisin Galveston, Seawall/Blue Water Highway Run Staging at Cherry Hill, Galveston s East End All Corvettes will be staged at 8:00 am at the East end of Galveston Island on Cherry Hill for aerial video and photography that will occur at 9:00 a.m. which will include a second engine rev (in honor of Harley Earl and Myron Scott). All Corvettes will then proceed immediately to the route. The fi rst model, a convertible, which was designed by Harley Earl and introduced at the GM Motorama in 1953 as a concept show car. Myron Scott is credited for naming the car after the type of small, maneuverable warship called a corvette. This will be a 40-mile (one way) drive along the Texas coastline from the bustling port and tourist center of Galveston to the sleepy beach town of Surfside Beach. The drive follows the coast starting in the busy tourist city of Galveston and ending in a section that is relatively empty, and quiet. As along most of the Texas coast there are few trees near the shore except where they have been planted. Wind, salt and occasional hurricanes make it diffi cult for trees to become established. But the beaches and dunes have a stark beauty of their own. Nothing beats watching the sun rise over the Gulf of Mexico on a cool, quiet morning. Behind the beaches are low dune ridges that are often covered with fl owers such as the purple goat-foot morning glory. Marshes fl ank the back bays and harbor a tremendous variety of birds, fi sh, and other creatures. Now imagine the sound of hundreds of Corvettes making their way down the Galveston Seawall, across San Luis Pass Bridge, down the Blue Water Highway to Surfside, Texas and back. AWWWESOME!!!!!! Upon arrival to Surfside there are alternate routes to cruise back to different areas of Houston, San Antonio, Austin, Dallas, etc. These routes will be available to the participants before the run. Please see the event fl ier published in this newsletter. Put yourself behind the wheel of a new C7. Stop by Friendly any day... 22

23 1 St Annual Corvettes Crusin Galveston (Submitted by Paul Wolter). Christopher Tine is the General Manager of Corvette World Houston. Owned by Mark Eddins, second generation owner/ operator of Friendly Chevrolet in Dallas, TX (Established in 1956), Corvette World, (three locations; Austin, Dallas, and Houston) is the Premier; Top selling, Pre-Owned Corvette Dealer in the nation. When the new team took over the helm of Corvette World Houston it was very evident that something was missing.the support of the people that live the Corvette Lifestyle. After researching forums and other reviews on the internet they found that it was time to make some wrongs right. They embarked on this mission by addressing the issues one problem at a time and correcting them. They also noticed that there was no support for the 5 major Corvette Clubs in Houston. When Christopher Tine interviewed with Mark Eddins and Thomas Quintana (partner), one of the remarks that he made was that he had a vision of Corvettes headed down I-45 to beautiful Galveston Island for a week end of showing Corvettes and enjoying several events and fellowships. Not to mention the fact that it will be a huge fundraiser with all of the proceeds after expenses being donated directly to the affi liated clubs charities Sure there is Carlisle and Bowling Green that are substantial trips to large Corvette Events, but until now there was not even a thought of a big Corvette venue in the South. Corvette World is hosting the 1st Annual Corvettes Cruisin Galveston an Annual Fundraiser to benefi t the Clubs directly affi liated with the company. They hope to make this the biggest Corvette Event in the South!!!! The last day of the event will be a massive 80 mile round trip cruise. This will be an 80 mile drive along the Texas coastline from the bustling port and tourist center of Galveston to the sleepy beach town of Surfside Beach. Be sure and register to participate in this event. The registration form is provided on the event website shown below. We will be providing information soon that will identify the DFW metroplex departure date, time and location for caravanning to Houston. Additional event and hotel information is provided on Corvette World s Crusin Galveston website at When you go to the website you will notice that it includes our CCT logo since we are one of the event sponsors. 23
