Day Light Savings Time is here. Let's get ready for the warm, cheerful, and longer day light hours. Our role model LMMAR Executive Board is always moving in a forward, positive direction. We are not sitting and waiting for success to come to us, we take action! It has been humorously said, a great President is a President who runs a highly successful organization and does nothing. Sometimes we get used to success without recognizing the reality of the people who work to make success happen. (Continued on page 2) PRESIDENT S MESSAGE Dan Tellep, former President of Lockheed Missiles & Space and CEO of Lockheed Corporation attended a Lockheed display at the Sunnyvale Heritage Park Museum on Thursday, February 18, Approximately 160 Lockheed retirees and employees attended to mix and mingle with Dan, view the Lockheed donated display, the Lockheed memorabilia and the awesome museum, which is a replica of the Martin Murphy House. Julia Miller, former Sunnyvale Mayor, Lockheed retiree and Board member of the museum arranged the event. Dan joined Lockheed Missiles & Space Company, Inc. (LMSC) in 1955, shortly after graduating Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley in 1954 and received his M.S. from U.C. (Continued on page 2) DAN TELLEP

2 Page 2 (Continued from page 1) DAN TELLUP Berkeley in He worked his way up to LMSC President and joined the Lockheed Corporation Board in He was named Chairman and Chief Executive Officer in Dan is enjoying his retirement traveling and painting. Less widely known is the fact that Dan is an outstanding water color artist whose beautifully executed paintings are attracting increasing attention at West Coast Art Shows. Everyone enjoyed reconnecting with Dan, having photo s taken with him, and proudly reminiscing about the good ole Lockheed days. Be Happy! Ken Koga President kkoga04@sbcglobal.net MEMBERSHIP Monthly Winner: (Continued from page 1) PRESIDENT S MESSAGE I thank and appreciate Hal Boddy as Vice President. Norm Dhom, Membership Director for keeping control of our membership status and his current activity preparing the Annual 2010 LMMAR Membership Directory for distribution. We hope you appreciate this Directory as a great source for network sharing. Jerry Vaughan, Treasurer is our cornerstone for keeping accurate accountability of our financial status. This is an area, if not controlled can make or break an organization. Bill Hammerlund, Assistant Treasurer is also keeping LMMAR History Records and does our photography. Sheldon Schwartz, Secretary has always been reliable for recording accurate monthly Executive Board Meeting activity. Carolyn Hobbs and Lucille Wilson, Programs Director and Assistant are continually looking ahead planning interesting and fun luncheons. The details and decorations require many hours of resourcefulness and time. We plan for themed, fun and exciting luncheons. Vern De Vincenzi. Travel Director and Sacramento Area Director has been very busy searching interesting travel trips. All of the travel trips are selected for your interest and enjoyment. Jan Hammerlund, Assistant Travel is working on our LMMAR Scrapbook and Travel. Due to Jan's creativity and resourcefulness, the Scrapbook is forming to be a magnificent, high quality layout of our LMMAR Administration Term story. Vern is also planning exciting luncheons for the LMMAR Sacramento Area members. Our Executive Advisors, John Kowalchik, LM Space Systems Company, Carol Safberg, Star One Credit Union, and LM Financial Advisor, Bronwen Jenkins cover our blindside. It is prudent to maintain 360 degree vision. We also have many hard working Activity Chairpersons actively working on specific activity areas. All of these people make the President's job easy. I thank and appreciate you, the members for actively supporting and promoting LMMAR with others. Inviting others to join LMMAR is a nice gesture. We believe the future can improve on the past. Think of the new friends we have not yet met. Your part to invite new members is significant. DONALD WIGGINTON New Members: PATRICIA A. Press Release Lockheed Martin-Built System Aims Laser In Successful Lethal Demonstration Against Ballistic Missile Target EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif., February 12th, Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) announced today that the Beam Control/Fire Control system for the U.S. Missile Defense Agency s Airborne Laser Testbed (ALTB) successfully aimed the High Energy Laser beam in an experiment Feb. 11, in which a boosting ballistic missile target was destroyed. In the lethal demonstration, the directed energy system aboard the modified Boeing F aircraft engaged and destroyed the threatrepresentative ballistic missile target shortly after it was launched from a sea-based platform in the Pacific Ocean. The Lockheed Martin-developed Beam Control/Fire Control system focused and directed the beam generated by the Northrop Grumman-developed megawatt-class High Energy Laser, and the Battle Management System developed by Boeing, Airborne Laser Testbed prime contractor, managed the engagement. Shooting down a threatrepresentative ballistic missile target is the latest in a remarkable series of firsts that the government and industry team has achieved in demonstrating this leading-edge technology, said Doug Graham, advanced programs vice president, Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company. This successful experiment validates the effectiveness of this revolutionary technology and makes it the most mature directed energy system in the world, opening the door to further new possibilities for the application of this technology. The Beam Control/Fire Control System has performed with outstanding results in the most demanding mission to date, said Mark Johnson, Airborne Laser Testbed program director, Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company. The Beam Control/Fire Control System, which consists of a sophisticated suite of optics, low-energy lasers and software, has been rigorously tested in more than 140 flights since 2004, making technology history all along the way as a result the close partnership and dedication of the government and industry team. The Beam Control/Fire Control System tracks the target, determines (Continued on page 5)

5 Page 5 range to the target, compensates for atmospheric turbulence and focuses and directs the High Energy Laser beam. Lower-energy lasers the Track Illuminator Laser and the Beacon Illuminator Laser determine where to point and focus the High Energy Laser. The High Energy Laser beam passes through an optical path before exiting through the conformal window on the nose of the aircraft on its way to the target. SUNSHINE There is nothing to report this month. I depend on you readers to keep me informed as to what is going on with our members. I cannot access the local newspaper for Obits so I need your inputs. Illness, surgery and death information is greatly appreciated. Guidelines for any news you want to share with me. To acknowledge the illness or passing of someone you inform me about, that person needs to be a member of LMMAR. In the case of the passing of a non member, we just mention the name and a date if given one. Since there is no longer a company newsletter, LMMAR has agreed to post a death notice, name and date only.
