1 LEDGER LANDMARK RESORT August 2015 My Landmark Journey By Greg Larson I d like to introduce myself as your new Rental Board President. My Landmark Journey began when our kids were on their own and my wife, Jane, and I became empty nesters. As we moved on, we wanted a place where we could get away and relax. With both of us working long hours, we didn t want a place that required a lot of work we already had our hands full taking care of our house and yard. So, after some thought, we decided to check into buying a condo at the Landmark. We had stayed at the Landmark Resort several times and were very impressed by it. We especially loved the view. After doing some research and realizing that rental income would help offset expenses, we decided to buy a unit at the Landmark. We were very excited to find the perfect unit for us in the Flagship building in August of Shortly after we bought our unit, we participated in the fall clean-up weekend. As new owners, it was a great opportunity to meet other owners while volunteering our time to help beautify the grounds. Because we enjoyed it so much, we wanted to know more about the operations of the Landmark, so we went to a Strategic Long-Range Planning meeting. At that meeting, I met some members of the Rental Board. A few months later I was approached by the Rental Board President to consider joining the Rental Board. I knew this would be a good opportunity to get further involved and work with a great group of owners who, like me, have a vested interest in making the Landmark a better place for owners and guests. I joined the Rental Board in June of Over the next few years my wife and I got further involved by volunteering to help with the Fourth of July parade and the Door Triathlon. Both of these events have given us the opportunity to meet more owners and a great opportunity to represent the Landmark. In addition to that, we have a strong interest in landscaping, so when we are at our condo we do what we can to help keep the grounds looking good. Thanks to Doug and Anne Stangel we always have something to do! continued on page 2

2 I enjoyed being a part of the Rental Board for the past four years, and in June of this year, I was elected President of the Rental Board. I look forward to continue working with a great Rental Board and Owners Board. I d like to thank Berne Clary for all of his contributions as our past Board President and thank all members of the Rental Board for their contributions, as well. I also look forward to meeting more owners at the upcoming meetings and clean-up weekends. If you are interested in getting involved in activities at the Landmark, I encourage you to reach out to me, Wendy Beilfuss, Owner s Liaison, or any member of the boards. Greg Larson Check-In Remindar By Patti Taylor As we progress through the busy season I feel it s important to remind all the owners of our check-in procedures. The check-in procedures are the same for owners as it is for any other guest. When you arrive, if there are others waiting in line... I ask you to not cut to the front of the line. Everyone must check in through the front desk electronic system. I ask that you be patient with our staff as they work through the busy times. If your condo is not ready, we will take your cell phone number and call or text you when it is ready. This is considered Priority Check-in. Housekeeping is notified that you have arrived at the resort, and desire to get into your room early. Housekeeping will make their way to your room as quickly as possible. While Housekeeping does their best to get the rooms cleaned early in the day, there are times that it takes them until our check-in time (4pm) to prepare all the rooms. Thank you for your understanding and patience I know there are times when the wait is long - especially when we have more than 175 arrivals in a day. Rick Rogers is New Maintenance Supervisor NEW EMPLOYEES Rick Rogers has joined the resort as Maintenance Supervisor. Rick has many years of maintenance experience including years with Little Sweden Resort and The Rushes Resort in Baileys Harbor. Most recently he worked at the Justice Center in Sturgeon Bay. Rick lives in Sturgeon Bay with his wife Jen. He enjoys working on cars and motorcycles. Join us in welcoming Rick. Please join in welcoming the new employees hired in the past month. n Rick Rogers, Maintenance n Jasmine Gonzales-Sandoval, Housekeeping n Jacqueline Mileto, Housekeeping n Madisen Lutz, Housekeeping n Tracy Berry, Restaurant n Oleh Overchuk, Restaurant

3 Severe Storm Hits Door County August 2 Severe thunderstorms rolling through Northeast Wisconsin led to downed power lines. There were more than 20,000 outages reported by Wisconsin Public Service at its peak, a majority of them in Door County. The fast moving storm blew into Door County with wind gusts up to 70 miles per hour in spots. Wisconsin Public Service Corp. crews were spread out around northern Door County on Monday, fixing downed power lines and restoring power to thousands of residents in the wake of Sunday's thunderstorms. Upwards of 12,000 WPS customers lost electricity, and about 3,500 were still without power by noon Monday. At the Landmark Resort, we lost power at 2pm on Sunday afternoon and survived without power for almost 11 hours. Happy to report that we were among the lesser hit properties. In addition to the power outage, there were numerous small branches and leaves thrown about. We only had one major tree affected. By Monday afternoon you could hardly tell that anything had happened in the area. Upcoming Board Meetings September 19, 2015 November 7, 2015 December 12, 2015 January 16, 2016 February 6, 2016 March 12, 2016 One tree - near the Navigator pool - was broken by the high winds on August 2nd. Pumpkin Patch Volunteers Perhaps you ve wondered who makes up those Pumpkin Patch decorations? Maybe you ve been looking for an avenue to express your creative side? How about a way to contribute to the resort on a short-term project? We re looking for people with ideas - what theme we might use, as well as people to help with the execution of a grand plan to decorate the resort for the annual Pumpkin Patch Festival. Call Wendy at to express yor interest or find out more information.
