3 Garage Tour No one can say we don t have some projects going on in the IBCC! A very pleasant day began after coffee when we set out to visit three members garages, sandwiched around a lunch in Emmett at the Triangle Grill. The first stop was at Ed & Candi Warrens house to check out Ed s new Sprite. Quite a nice project, with an absolutely gorgeous engine. All Ed would venture on the engine s potential power was, that s classified! Whatever the eventual power ratio turns out to be, it is certain to be one heck of a fast Sprite. Can t wait to see it (and hear it!) on the road. Next stop was Lee & Nancy Otterness s garage to view Lee s 90% restored 1968 Midget. What a beautiful paint job! Lee has been restoring this car for some time and will have it on the road in time for the Summer Tour...watch out Lyn, this is one nice little car, could give the Jag a run! Lee even started it up and drove it up the block, which was quite a sight without doors & bonnet. Looks great & sounds great, looking forward to the unveiling at the Summer Tour. After Lee s it was off to Rex & Bev La Brie s to view the always stunning collection of Jags, Triumphs, Cadillac's, Electric Cars etc, etc. Along the way we stopped at the Triangle for a great lunch, then, unfortunately, stopped again a mile short of Rex s house. Bob & Carolyn Berry s Alfa decided that it didn t want to run anymore and finished the trip on a flatbed. Bob & Carolyn sent on a big THANK YOU to all that helped, sorry we couldn t get it going. All was not lost as a tour of the Rex Collection was held as we waited for the flatbed. Whether seeing the collection for the first time or tenth, it is always a treat. All in all, a nice day spent ogling some wonderful cars. Thanks to Ed & Candi, Lee & Nancy and Rex & Bev for their hospitality. Look for another garage tour in the east end soon.
4 April Wednesday Night Drive A good turn-out on a lovely spring day, what better activity then driving to a trailer park! Thirty four intrepid souls turned out for the first Wednesday Night Drive, meeting at Veterans Park for the short drive to Donnie Mac s Trailer Park Cuisine, a new restaurant in the Linen District of Boise. And what a sight as the motorcade proceeded down State Street, with MGB's, Triumphs, Cortina's, Healey's and a brace of Jaguars, including Lyn s (I d sell my Mother for this car!) beautiful Series 1.5, looking better than it did just out of the factory. The folks at Donnie Mac s were very accommodating, giving us reserved parking out front and setting up a room in the back, that, after some rearranging, was quite cozy. The restaurant itself is quite eclectic, with a 47 Chevy on a lift that serves as a booth, a collection of junk doors from old pick-ups hung on the walls, and various Trailer Park art along the walls. Our table was a complete 41 Chevy (minus the engine) crushed into a 5 foot square block! As advertised, the menu consisted of good old USA comfort food, hand made burgers, meatloaf, mesquite chicken and a killer mac & cheese that rivaled my own family recipe. Top it off with a cold PBR and you ve got a full & content belly. The service, at first confused, (they had only expected 20) quickly recovered and was quite efficient, and I certainly heard no complaints about the fine food. All in all, a fun night, and a new restaurant that I know I ll visit again.

7 Summer Tour Update Rod Nichols On Saturday, April 22nd, Steve & I, along with our wives, drove up to Tamarack to meet with the resort director about the Summer Tour. It was a very productive trip; we toured through the Arling Center Grange Hall, (still under construction!) where we will have dinner Saturday. The IBCC will be the inaugural party at that facility! We also looked at the tentative location for the Car Show, and (we hope) it will be very near the Ski lift, just above the patios of the Canoe Grill and the Seven Devils Pub. Although there is still snow, it s melting away at about 2 inches a day so it will be bare ground in a matter of days. I will probably make 2 more trips, once with Brian Losness, of Nitrophoto Motorsports, to scout a photo shoot location, and another to set final details prior to the event. The road, a major matter of concern with most that have driven it the last few months, is being attacked the first of May. At the worst, it will be very "Healeyable" by the 9th of June. Everything is looking great! We ve had inquiries from members that, for one reason or another, cannot attend the entire weekend, and a $10 fee (that's right ten dollars) was decided on for car show attendance only. You will still need to fill out a registration form and submit it, and if you plan to participate in any other functions through the weekend, check the appropriate boxes and get your check in the mail! Late fees apply after the 5th of May. We need that time to order Tour tee shirts, Trophies, Dash plaques, etc. Concerning the judging, we ll have some outside judges (real car guys!), and five classes, divided by year. Triumphs, MGs, Healeys, Jags, Morgans, and Minis, all competing against each other in what we call a "Funcour". We re not concerned so much about a "nut and bolt correct" restoration as a car being clean, with nice fit and finish. The Spirit of British Motoring is what it's all about, because nothing is as beautiful as a British car that s driven! That's how the Judges will view it. We, (the Board of Directors) have put a considerable amount of time into the planning of this event, and it is like nothing ever undertaken by IBCC before. It s our desire to provide the atmosphere of a major West Coast car show, without having to drive 1000 miles to have the experience. Our hope is for all attending to have the best time they ve ever had at an IBCC function, and to spread the word to those who couldn t make it what a great event it was. The biggest reward for the Board will be to have a stellar turn-out, and an even bigger turn-out next year! Personally, I hope this is the start of a long tradition for IBCC, and that new ideas generated by this year s tour will ensure this event will be bigger and better in the years to come. So...send in those entry forms, this is gonna be a great party!!!! Tech Tip Headlight chrome ring removal made easy! Go to a hardware store and get a paint can opener, it s hooked on the end a makes a perfect tool to remove the ring without damaging the paint. Thanks to Clark from mgaddict.com for the tip!
8 The Ales of the United Kingdom Give my people plenty of beer, good beer & cheap beer, and you will have no revolution among them. Queen Victoria Traquair House Brewery Innerleithen, Peeblesshire, Scotland Bear Ale Situated in one of the wings of Scotland's Oldest Inhabited House lies an authentic eighteenth century brewery that was abandoned in the early 1800's but brought back into production in the early 1960's by Peter Maxwell Stuart, 20th Laird of Traquair. The famous bear gates guarding the approach to Traquair have been closed since 1745 when the last person to pass through them was Bonnie Prince Charlie. A pioneer of micro brewing, this rich dark traditional Scottish Ale continues to be brewed using the original equipment and fermented in the 200 year old oak tuns giving the ale its unique flavour. Overall Impressions: Bright red-brown, moderate carbonation, thick head. Toasty caramel malt aroma, with lots of fruity hops. Light body, big toasty mildly sweet malt flavor. Hop flavor and bitterness starts in the middle and grows quickly. Hints of chocolate at the end. Traquair Bear Ale pours to a beautiful, bright, deep copper to tawny brown color, with a bubbly white head that fades, and a moderate amount of carbonation. The nose on this beer is very interesting. Aromas of malt, and some dry, herbal hop aromas, marry with the aroma of oak. The palate is firm, with pleasing pale malt flavors, paired with a touch of sour fruit flavor, and notes of oak. Bear Ale finishes with more malty and oaky flavors up front, and ends with a refreshing slightly sour and oaky edge. This is an excellent Scottish ale that is very distinctive due to the fact that it is fermented in 200 year old oak fermenters. This beer is brewed exclusively with pale malts, hopped with East Kent Goldings, and picks up that deep copper color from the oak fermenters. I enjoyed the malty and oaky aromas and flavors of this beer, and that touch of sourness in the finish. The bottled version of Bear Ale comes in at 5% abv, making it a little bigger than your average "session" beer, but no less drinkable. Review notes: beerme.com
