From Their Excellencies Greetings from Baron Dorio of the Oaks and Baronessa Jocelyn del Espada, We and many of the peoples of the Barony completed the annual Pilgrimage to the Debatable Lands. Thank You, each and every one, for the help this year, Our first Pennsic, making it special for Us. We saw our champions take the field in the Known World Baronial Champions tourney for both heavy and fencing; there they acquitted themselves with their prowess and with spoken words, as they answered questions put to them by our Cousins. We also saw the Mighty East Tiger bring the mild Mid Dragon to its back and made trophies of its wings in battles hard fought. Vivat, Long Live the East! Before making our Pilgrimage, we saw many of you up in our Neighbors lands supporting the Barony of Endewearde in its dispute with the Province of Malegentia. Our Fighters, Fencers, Archers, Artisans, Shoppers and Workers made us proud of your Barony. It amazes us each time we see you out there showing your skills and what can be done. Vivat, Long Live Stonemarche! Looking forward we see that the annual Harper s Retreat is coming up and look forward to seeing and participating with you in the many activities of the weekend. The Feast this year promises to be very interesting, as we have seen the missives from the Head Cook and the supplies the Gamesmen are bringing in. Please be ready to participate in vying for the position of Champion to the Baron or Baronessa in Archery, Fencing, and Fighting or for the Baronial Bard, Baronial Warrior Bard or our first Champion of Thrown Weapons. Vivat to Our Champions! Also, we have been informed that Fall Crown Tourney will be held in our Lands. Congratulations, to Lady Tessa for putting in the winning bid. In Service Dorio & Jocelyn

From the Seneschals Desk Greetings to Stonemarche, As I start my first term as seneschal I am having questions sent to me. Some I know the answers to, some I am still researching, but all are being answered. Please feel free to send me any more questions that you have about the Barony as a whole. Curia is upcoming. I am still planning to have it on Saturday Aug 16th at the Nashua public Library. This is a day earlier then I originally suggested due to the site not being available on Sunday. I have not yet received the confirmation we have the site. So this is still pending. If this changes, information will be posted on Facebook as well as the Stonemarch group. Also I have had several queries as to when I am having a Curia in an area. If you would like to have curia in your area of the state help me help you. Please look around to find areas that would be available on a Friday evening or a Sunday night to run a curia and are free. If it is at all reasonable, I will work with you to set up a curia in your area. It may not be the next curia, as I am planning to move curia around, but I will consider your suggestions. On the subject of contacting me. Please do not use Facebook to contact me. Honestly I check it every few days, so It is not the best way to reach me. The better ways are phone at or at seneschal@barony-ofstonemarche.org For everyone who is on their way to Pennsic. I wish I was there with you. For those of us at home, they will be returning here soon enough, and we have Harper's, a possible Crown tourney and Birka coming up as well as a possible Yule event. I look forward to seeing you all at Curia. Tomyris of Stonemarche

From the Vaults Exchecquer's Corner Greetings from the Exchequer, As many if you know I have been seeking a replacement for some time now. At last not one but two possible people have stepped up and are being trained for the Office of Baronial Exchequer. The office also still has two marvelous deputies that have been very helpful in lightening the load, along with a dear friend who has helped with some of the more magic box aspects of the position. Things to know about handling money in the SCA. According to SCA law anyone handling SCAfunds must be a paid member of the Society for Creative Anachronism and be over the age of14. Other rules state that anyone working gate is to be deemed acceptable to both the Exchequer and the Seneschal. If you have ever had an interest in learning gate there is usuallyan opportunity at every event, feel free to volunteer! The SCA has many policies to follow and the more we know about, the easier for Officers and Event Stewards to insure they are followed. I hope to continue to bring little snippets like this to the Carved in Granite in upcoming issues. Thank you! Deirdre de Planchett e

From the Chronicler's Inkwell Greetings unto my readers As I put together this issue, I'd like to thank my reporters, and ask you, the members of the populace, to consider becoming a 'granite chipper'. The Barony is made up of many different people, covering a wide range of interests. As much as I'd like to be at each and every practice, or event, or workshop, it isn't going to happen. Therefore, I'm looking for roving reporters to tell me what's going on in their corner of the Barony. I try to cover information for all the practices I know about, but I may be missing some - let me know. Fighters, fencers, archers - do you have a "..no ***** there I was, watching as did " story to share? Tales of inspiration, admiration or education? Crafters - what are you working on, and how can we help - or can you help us by ofering instructions or tips? Young ones (in age, spirit and/or SCAdian age) - is there something you'd like to know more about in SCA life? Ask, and maybe someone will step up to answer you - and in doing so, help to spread the knowledge and passion. Artists - do you have something to share? Stories, songs, drawings and photographs are always appreciated, and will find these pages welcoming. I'd like to be able to publish more issues, more often, quarterly really isn't enough to keep up with all the Baronial happenings - but quarterly is all I have content for, unless I start filling pages with articles borrowed from other SCA publications (with permission, of course), recipes and my bad poetry. I'm fairly easy to reach; you can contact me at either of the addresses above, or at lady_bethra@yahoo.com or by telephone - please wait for the answering machine, the phone isn't always within quick grabbing distance, even snail mail. in Service, Bethra

She would like to encourage folk from far and near to come enjoy a weekend of sharing, learning and fun. The event will feature a series of craft, study and practice stations. We invite all manner of groups to request a space to practice and share their particular interest. Some of the study/practice stations I anticipate are heavy list, cut and thrust, thrown weapons, dancing, fiber arts, and brewing. The list will be updated as plans are confirmed. One of the most important aspects of this event is that we would like to be sure that ALL daytime activities are friendly for all ages. We feel that it is very important to INCLUDE children in our study and practice as much as possible. This means there will be no separate children's activities and adults should be prepared to share their knowledge and time with our younger SCAdians at this fair. They often have as much to share with us as we have to teach them! Keep this in mind when planning your group practice/study area. After dinner we have been known to share a game or a drink and a whole lot of fun and antics. (As child friendly as the day is, after dinner activities will decidedly not be). There are two big field stone fireplaces in the hall before which many a song have been shared and story told. Please bring ears and voices to add to the wealth. There is space on the porch for dancing all night. A day board designed and cooked. in part, by our young people will be provided on Saturday, included in your site fee. In the evening, we plan on having a very simple and delicious evening meal together. There are 70 seats available for it and we need to know if you will be joining us for the meal no later than September 10 so the cook will know how much food to make. Breakfast Saturday and Sunday (until 10am) will be available for those staying with us in cabins or tent spaces. Event Location Westwood YMCA Camp 2093 Harkney Hill Rd. Map Coventry, RI 02816

Curia Report ~ May Curia started at 1:45 pm May 4th at the DOC House at Dartmouth College. Officers Reports: Baron & Baroness - Maestro Dorio & Lady Jocelyn Baron Dorio wanted to thank everyone who was involved with First Feast. He also thanked Kythe and Theresa for the Brewer's Collegium. He saw there was a packed house. Master Dorio went on to say we are in talks with Carolingia about the Runnymede Cocktail Hour to be held at Pennsic. A request was made for someone going to Pennsic to step forward as Steward/Hostess, to coordinate the event. The Baroness had nothing to add. Seneschal - Pan Kythe Szubielka Renewal of Office - As of Palio, Lady Tomryis will be taking over as Seneschal. I have had time to get together with her and talk about various Seneschal related duties and nuances of the Barony. She unfortunately won't be able to attend the Palio event but I am already passing information to her about events happening beyond that date. I would like to thank the Officers with whom I have worked. Without them, this barony would not have flourished as it has. I think I've negotiated replacements for everyone except the Exchequer at least twice. I've even replaced the Baron and Baroness. I hope that the populace is happy with the job I've done and I feel confident that Tomyris will take over and continue improving the Barony. Officers should see the sign-in sheet for permission to post information online for the Chronicler and Webminister. It is available at this May Curia meeting Granite Pursuivant - Lady Casandra Hobbes There will be Heraldry at Palio. If you need something regarding court, please her so she can get it ready. New letter of acceptance has passed. Dominico Medici's name and arms have passed. The Herald will be going to Pennsic for the second week. Exchequer - Dierdre de Planchette Ravenhair has submitted a budget for Birka Dominico hasn't given the ok yet for presentation of his budget for Harpers Retreat. We anticipate presentation at next Curia. First Feast report hasn't been completed yet, although the end of year report is done. Knight Marshal - Lord Eben Hadrada Not present; no report Minister of A&S - Lady Seigne Ruadh Friseal Lots of A&S happening in the Barony. Seigne thanked those who are running craftnites across the Barony. Those interested in running A&S classes are

encouraged to contact the Minister of A&S so that we can share these skills with the populace. Chatelaine - Lady Rosaline Wright Filed the quarterly report. She is currently collecting a calendar of information about things going on in the Barony. This is mostly for new folks. She has new flyers with tear-off pieces for folks to take and contact her. She is also looking for a Deputy to help with the position. She has a few mundane events that are interfering with local SCAdian events. Zenya confirmed her name was updated on website for the office. Several other events were mentioned in regards to fencing on Sundays, fighting Practice starting in Epping, and Dana's Archery Practice in Loudon may be starting up again. Captain of Archers - Osmond de Berwic Not present; no report Captain of Fencers - Cedric of the Floppy Hat Not present; no report Corwyn stated that the main fencing practice is happening in Nashua. Inquiries for Rollins Park to start up again now that the weather was better. Baron Xavier had confirmed the parks grassy areas were now dry and able to be used. Chamberlain - Lady Tessa of Stonemarche Not present; no report Chiurgeon - Lord Hildemar the Alchemist Not present; no report Chancellor Minor - Corwyn Faerlic Corwyn has received s from folks concerning having a time and date for a Kids event. He is working on a night date and see what works best for most folks. Probably a monthly thing. Corwyn is collecting together the various toychests that seem to be scattered across the Barony. He has two totes and Knotty Cross has a collection they want to add. The A&S Minister also has a bag of Yule gifts that have collected at her residence. Gold Key - Ælfthryth the Cat Not present; no report Chronicler - Lady Bethra Spicewell Not present; report sent To the Barony, greetings. Since travels have taken me away from the lands this week, I m sending a short note. Thank you for the responses to my first issue. It s a humble beginning to what I d like to see CiG become. I d like to offer an apology for this issue being available a bit later than I had planned, due to life making times difficult for some of us.

It SHOULD be out by May 8. Unfortunately, 2 of the events scheduled for the issue will be past by then. If youse decide anything at Curia, please pass it along, and I ll find a space for it :) As for receiving contact info permissions, I haven t gotten many, yet. I d like to thank the few I have gotten, with a special nod to those who included full info. In the same thread of communications, your friendly neighbourhood Chronicler would like to request that those who are running practices, craftnights or workshops please forward that information. You don t have to offer every detail, if you don t wish to, but a simple when, where and/or contact # or link would be greatly appreciated and please pass that info on to the Chatelaine, also, so she can have it handy for newcomers. Not everybody is in touch with the electronic version of the SCA, and activities of interest may be missed by those who do not know where to look for it. (Not to mention that I can put it all into one place, where you can tack it to your fridge for easy reference) In Service Bethra Spicewell aka Christina Elisabeth de la Griffon Azure Minister of Lists - Lord Michael de Calais Not present; no report Web Minister - Lady Zenya Not present; report sent Hi Kythe, Not going to be able to make it to Curia this time. So I will just let you know that Chatelaine has been updated on the site. Nothing else to report. Thanks! Deputy Minister confirmed site is still up. Granite Pursuivant stated she is still not getting from the site. Webminister has been notified and working on it. Baronial Historian - Countess Arastorm the Golden Not present; no report Old Business: First Feast was held at the UU Church of Concord. Lots of good food and the dancing was fun too! East Kingdom Brewer's Collegium All beds were filled, the site was "awesome" as quoted by many folks who attended. Baron Dorio joined us for the day and the event was attended by close to 40 Brewers from across the Known World. Deposits of all checks have been made/ we have one refund which needs to be discussed by the Seneschal and Exchequer. We didn't break even.

New Business: NH Renn Faire - May 10,11 & 17,18 NH Renn Faire: Looking for folks to attend and help out with a little demo for the barony. We got a couple of folks last year and it was a great time. Normally we go on after the Neville Company demo, they give us a lead in and we fight for about a half hour. The rest of the time is just sit and socialize with the attendees. Discussion of a coloring book for kids with the Barony information on it was recommended. Palio de Stonemarche Currently set for June 13-15, 2014: Melisand is the Autocrat with Baron Xavier running the games for this event. Greetings everyone, I think I filled out my part. Deirdre, do you see any empty spaces needing attention? Please let me know. I will not be able to attend Curia on Sunday, I have a big paper due and let's face it, have not written one page yet... Let me know how I can be of further assistance. Mellisende It will be again at the Hopkington Fairgrounds. Seneschal inquired about the contract for site and initial deposit. Details pending. The Herald mentioned the Travelling A&S Box travelling across the Kingdom which is a representative of what's happening in the Baronies for projects. GNEW We have been approached by Malagentia, who feels that Endewearde has taken liberties with their lands, infringing on Malagentian domain. We have been asked to align with them. I've passed this information to Tomryis to handle. The Baron and Baroness may have already been notified on this same subject. Baron Dorio and Baroness Jocelyn were not aware and will speak with Tomryis. Harpers 2014 Dominico is going to be the new autocrat and submitted a budget after Birka. He has not heard back on the status of the budget. The Exchequer confirmed he has not responded for some changes that were made. Thus it has not come to a vote yet. Site confirmed and Deputies are available. Baronial Birthday 2014 Is still open. Anyone interested in Autocratting the event, please see the new Seneschal. Possible Crown Tourney Elizabeth Rakich aka Tessa of Stonemarche was not present.

She is still looking for sites and no word otherwise has been heard. Bid date has passed but no location has been chosen yet so there may still be an opportunity. Yule 2014 Is still open. Anyone interested in Autocratting the event, please see the New Seneschal. The Inn of Knotty Crossing is interested in Yule. A bid may be coming soon. Birka 2015 Autocrat currently is Lord William Ravenhair. Kythe Szubielka has shown interest in being his Co-Autocrat/Deputy for Birka Still looking for volunteers for major positions to be filled. Seigne re-iterated her interest in running A&S at Birka. The Hotel is mostly booked already. Additional: Baron Dorio wanted to mention the shade pavilion is in need of replacement. There has been discussion of a more period style pavilion (20x30) Marquis with ropes, walls and poles. Estimation of cost about $3, Would like to put forth a request to the Finance Committee for fundage. Corwyn mentioned we are doing a thrown weapons program. Marshals will be coming up from Carolingia to Londonderry site. He requested for information being published to the Stonemarche website and CIG. There was some interest in purchasing equipment for thrown weapons but product was paid for at last Palio. The Exchequer had questions about where the items ended up. There are some target butts somewhere in the barony. Baroness Aine is trying to redo the Domesday Book. She is requesting help for this. She would like to include everyone in the Barony. She has some of the names but would like updates concerning who is no longer around, who is new, and Guilde and Household information. Please contact her with your details. Curia ended at 2:45 pm. Next Tentative Curia will be up to the new Seneschal.
