DAYBORO TRAILRIDERS CLUB INC PO BOX128, DAYBORO QLD 4521 ABN: Vice President Secretary Treasurer Bob Ebert Lisa Schuhmann Julie Stephenson Newsletter May 2017 April Ride Report by Debra Shanahan Sunday 23 rd April, a lovely Autumn day, picture perfect green valleys, clear sparkling streams and beautifully behaved horses. If you love horse riding, then you ve found the perfect way to spend a Sunday morning. Makes for a great Trail Ride, but a very boring ride report! Well, Bob with his inbuilt Sat Nav (no technology needed) can always find a new track to take us, even though we are riding the same trail we ve done many times before. He has a knack of locating old gates amongst the lantana that no one else would find, making the ride a little different each time. This is what makes him invaluable as a Lead Drover. A few of our club members who will remain anonymous, but are often Geographically Challenged, would have enjoyed not knowing where we were going to end up. Well, I ll let you guys know where we went! Out the back gate from the Club House into Stewart s, along Sellin Road to Tapiolis. A little slower paced as we rode through chest high grass in Graig Doyle s as some of the horses couldn t resist trying to fill their belly along the way. Before any cars came hurtling around the bend, we quickly crossed Mt Pleasant Road and went into Danny Doyle s. The North Pine River didn t present any unexpected obstacles after the recent floods. Always up for a challenge, Bob then headed up a tricky track on the side of a hill and we all chickened out and took Easy Street and waited for him at the top. No traffic problems crossing Laceys Creek Road, then we went through Brian Rowe s dairy and up Rowe and Strain Roads. In Dick Baker s our wandering took us through numerous cocky gates that we have never seen before. Gotta love the horses in the lead who take great care as their rider opens a barb wire gate from their back, then dumps it on the ground. Too bad for our Tail Drover (Dan) who then had to dismount, untangle the wire and put it back up. Luckily, he had some ladies helping him with that unenviable task. No, really, they didn t give him advice on how to do it; they helped.
After briefly riding in Neil Richardson s we were then into Humble s and after opening and closing approximately twenty gates so far, we get to push a button and watch as the gate slowly swung open and let us out onto Glover Road (Too Easy!) We then went over the hill in Neil Juff s and emerged from the bush onto Hillview Court, startling some bird watchers. Next was Riverview Court and we were on the home straight. The traffic safely negotiated crossing McKenzie Street and we arrived back at the club house with eighteen riders, the exact same as we left with ( excellent ) and covered approximately fifteen kilometres. After riding for three and a half hours and shutting gates behind us, Dan then stood at the barbeque and cooked our lunch (our hero of the day ).

ANZAC Day March Anzac Day this year dawned fine and not too hot. The riders, as usual, rode from the showgrounds to the back of the hotel where we waited in the driveway for the march to commence at 9.30am. Melanie walked carrying the Dayboro Trailriders sign and was followed by the riders: Bob & Helen carrying flags, Debra, Mary Ann, Peggy, John, Neil & Barbara. After the parade, we rode back to the showgrounds, lined up inside the arena fence and watched the service. Helen laid the wreath on behalf of the club. Near the end of the service two Wirraway planes did a fly-by of four runs across the showgrounds. Thank you to Debra for taking home the saddle cloths and scarves to wash and iron.
Frasers Camp on Friday, April 28 to Monday, May 2, 2017 This camp was held from Friday 28 th April to Monday 2 nd May and was hosted by the Mudgeeraba & Hinterland Horse Trail Club. Nobody from our club attended this ride. Rodeo Roster - Sunday 30 th April 2017 Dayboro Rodeo was a glorious sunny day, hence huge numbers. We were busier selling sausages than on a Saturday at Bunnings!!! All we sold was sausages and drinks and we took nearly $2000 in takings for the Rodeo Society. Bob had to run down the road twice to get extra supplies as we sold out by 1pm. We did not provide the food but it was decided to top their supplies up as it is not good to run out of food at lunch time. We will be reimbursed for the extra bread and sausages. We also sold 81 of our drinks as they had run out and took $350 for our club. I got to watch some of the rodeo at the end and have a couple of well-earned drinks!! Great day all round. Thank you to all who helped out on the day.

Australia s entrant in Eurovision 2017 Isaiah Firebrace with Gemma in Kiev
Gemma in Romania, Moldova & Ukraine for Eurovision - by Lisa Yes, Gem is overseas again and after leaving here with a cold then a long flight via Singapore and Turkey she landed in Romania only to have her phone stolen within a couple of hours of landing by some young boys in a park. She saw the funny side of it after going to the police who treated it like a murder, spent five hours at the police station and being driven around Bucharest in a police car to try and find the boys her own private tour around the city priceless! She did a day trip to Dracula s Castle in Transylvania, a wine tour and went to Transnistria in Moldova. Then it was Eurovision time in Kiev, Ukraine and on the first day had photos with Australia s entrant Isaiah at a local shopping centre. Gem said he was real casual and when they waved their Aussie flags he just came over. She managed to get herself into the Embassy party where she was filmed at the bar and made it for two seconds onto SBS news on a couple of nights and The Feed. At the red carpet, she got photos of the performer from every country and more photos with Isaiah. Then again, she made it onto TV in the final performance when they zoomed in on her with her Aussie flag. She went to all nine shows including semi-final one, semi-final two, the final and every show also has a jury show the night before and a family rehearsal show the afternoon of each main show. She was extremely excited when Isaiah made it to the final along with some of her other favourites. Isaiah then did extremely well to finish in ninth place for Australia and to come in the top ten out of forty-two countries is just awesome and not easy. She has been a real social butterfly at Eurovision this time and been to fan club parties and the Euro club and functioning on not much sleep. She did some interesting bus trips out to a missile base and to Chernobyl and said it was just fascinating. Some of the photos she sent home like the deserted dodgem cars in the fairground were very eerie. Now in Gemma s words about her road trip with two Aussie guys. The road trip to end all road trips just ended! Survived the 2000km, 10 million potholes, traffic chaos (who needs road lines anyway), regular police checks, flat tyres, stray cows & horses, monster sized bugs etc etc and still managed to see some great towns and beautiful countryside. We love Ukraine. Eurovision depression has begun! After a week road tripping to Lviv and Odessa with fellow Eurovision fans, coming back to Kyiv is hard! All signs of Eurovision have disappeared, even McDonalds has removed its English menu. Then Kyiv delivers a beautiful sunset and I feel like I m running on air. Till next year my new wonderful Eurovision family. * * * * * *
