March is here and almost over. Easter was early this year and I am Hot Cross Bunned out. I have had my chocolate fix for the year. No not really chocolate is never too far away really?? Our committee is getting its feet wet for another year. Great to have Claire on board as Ride coordinator and Michael as our support member. Also Bruno putting his hand up for the top job to lead the merry band. This brings our team up to six which takes some of the heat off our regular committee members Sue, Ken and Dick who have done an excellent job in A special thank you to Lesley for his support as president for We are not a big club in regards to numbers but we make it up with the comradeship which is strong within the club itself. This I feel is just as important to creating a larger club. Don t get me wrong new members will help us to sustain the club. New ideas and support will help us grow into the future. Our members who went on a eleven day trip down south have arrived home safe and sound. I am looking forward to a couple of ride reports from this fantastic trip. I can also imagine the stories that will be shared of their adventures for some time to come. A bit like the trip on route 66. These stories will come up from time to time and have a good laugh. Also our members who went to the AGM in Tasmania I hope you have returned home safe and sound with some stories to share as well. Thank you to the members came to our Brisbane Branch AGM it was a great night though a little under the pump for time. Thanks to Bruno and Cher for organising the cake for our 30th Anniversary which was well received on the night. Cheers Sue KW

BRUNO S SNIPPETS MARCH 2016 BRIAN CAVENDISH bcavendi@bigpond.net.au Hello Everyone and Welcome to another year with a new committee! The February AGM was a special event in the history of Brisbane Branch as it was our 30 th anniversary of the official date of the ratification on 17 th February We invited past Presidents to attend and were pleased to see Rick Bedford and Laurie Collins attend. Both Rick and Laurie spoke to members about the past events of the branch. The AGM was conducted by Gary, Donna and Gillian from Mt. Lindesay Branch and thanks again for their assistance. The Inter-branch BBQ hosted by Ipswich branch this year was held at Cormorant Bay Wivenhoe Dam with a moderate attendance from Ipswich, Mt. Lindesay, Brisbane and a couple from over the border as they had a longer journey than us. On 28 th February there was a combined ride with Northern Gateway, Redcliffe and Brisbane Branches lead by Damian heading Southerly direction with some 24 bikes with some doubled up. Given that some members were travelling to the Ulysses AGM in Tassie and others did their own thing this was a good turn out on the day. I did not ride due to a re-occurring back problem but I did wave them off from the start point of Maccas Loganholme. Our new ride co-ordinator Claire, has been working on a ride calendar for the year and I will offer some new destinations that I have been told about from other people. Remember if you feel confident to lead a ride please put your hand up and let us know, as it is good to have new leaders help out on the day. That s all for this month. BRUNO

A truckie who had been out on the road for three weeks stops off at a brothel outside Kalgoorlie. He walks straight up to the Madam, drops down $500 and says, I want your ugliest woman and a burnt chop! The Madam is astonished. "But sir, for that kind of money you could have one of my finest ladies and a lovely three-course meal." The truckie replies, I'm not horny... I'm homesick! - My wife found out that our dog (a Schnauzer) could hardly hear, so she took it to the veterinarian. The vet found that the problem was hair in the dog's ears. He cleaned both ears, and the dog could then hear fine. The vet then proceeded to tell Andrea that, if she wanted to keep this from recurring, she should go to the store and get some "Nair" hair remover and rub it in the dog's ears once a month. * *Andrea went to the store and bought some "Nair" hair remover. * *At the register, the pharmacist told her, "If you're going to use this under your arms, don't use deodorant for a few days." * *Andrea said, "I'm not using it under my arms." * *The pharmacist said, "If you're using it on your legs, don't use body lotion for a couple of days." * *Andrea replied, "I'm not using it on my legs either. If you must know, I'm using it on my Schnauzer." * The pharmacist said, "Well, stay off your bicycle for at least a week.

THE LONELY HEARTS VALENTINE S RIDE There was quiet a gathering of riders for the Valentines day. All up we had 15 members at Maccas. Les was there though he went home with a very sore nose. Hopefully will be better in a couple of weeks. Claire rocked up though she was not the ride but offered to lead the ride out the back way through to Jimboomba and then made her way to Fernvale. We managed to reach Jimboomba with only none slight hick up when the group was broken up due to lights etc. Our first destination and stop was at Boonah and a break at Flavours. The place was chokers with people because of Valentines day. But Graham managed to put table together for us which was great. There was a car club also there with some magnificent machines parked up in the street. Dick left the ride due to family commitments and the rest of ride group headed off towards Moogarah Dam then onto Kalbar. It was not long after that came upon an accident involving motor bikes. We could not get there close enough to recognise any of the riders. But who ever it was in good hands with Care Flight on the scene. We were turned around and made a big detour and back tracked to Harrisville for lunch. At Harrisville we had lunch and we spent some time there as the day had become hot and the food was excellent no complaints there. It was decided that some members needed to get fuel. So virtually the group said their good byes there. We made our own way home with every one arriving home safely. It was not until I received an that we found out that the accident did involving a fellow Ulyssian David Hicks from Gold Coast branch. Our thoughts are now with David Hicks and send him our prayers and best wishes that he pulls through his accident. Though it was a good day it was great to finally get my boots off when I got home and any thing else and cooled down with a beer. Thank you to Ken for another great day. Sue KW

INTERBRANCH BBQ CORMORANT COVE Maccas was a live and humming when we got there. A car club was there showing off their well loved machines. Such a sight to see really I wondered where they were actually headed. The day was reasonable with the weather which was great considering the hot weather we had during the week. Claire led the ride the usual detour South Pine Road and turned left on the Brisbane Valley Highway and right on Sue s corner to Glenmorgan Vale and onto Lowood where we had a pit stop as we were a little ahead of time for our E.T.A at Interbranch BBQ. Soon we were on our way back to Fernvale and on to the Brisbane Valley highway again and then onto the Cormorant Cove. David and Ann, Trevor and Roelof arrived under their own steam so it was a good surprise to see them. On arriving there was a hive of activity with quiet a few people already there. The Ipswich Branch were a force to be recon with. There were so many purple shirts which were working together like a well oiled machine churning out a beautiful menu which was well received it was also topped up with desert with a variety to select from. Ipswich Branch had some games up their sleeves to get people mingling with each other so they did not just sit in their groups and it was a great idea. There were many items up for the raffles. Though our table moaned and groaned when we missed the number called out it was great fun and we actually did win about four prizes all up so that was a great effort. We had a couple of late comers who made the trip from Casino. They were welcomed into the group as long lost friends. The BBQ finished about 1pm and people starting leaving heading for their prospective homes. By this time the wind had picked up which was refreshing while sitting in the shade. But out on the road it was a different story and were buffered by the wind all the way home. Thank you to our members who came along on the day to support the BBQ. Also a special thank you to Ipswich branch for the great effort which they did on the day. It is our turn next year to cater for the BBQ. Sue KW

Ride with Northern Gateway and Redcliffe Branches The day dawned clear and warmish, with the prediction of later wetness. A small group of Brisbane members was gathered at Maccas Loganholme, awaiting the arrival of our guests: Bruno (unable to ride with his bad back), Karen (with her recently re-restored Trumpy ) Mick, Paul and I. Also present were prospective member Andy (BMW R1150R) and someone from the Redcliffe branch (apparently meeting up with Gateway, and so us). As usual, there was plenty of chatter and good natured ribbing. Our numbers swelled to well over 20 with the arrival of Northern Gateway. After a quick briefing and a welcome from Bruno, we were on our way to morning tea at the Hinze Dam cafe. Down the M1 we motored, exiting at Yatala and travelling to Tamborine Village for the climb up to Mount Tamborine. The corner marking was working well and I soon realised that regrouping was not necessary. The traffic was somewhat light for a Sunday morning and we were making good time. Importantly, the temperature on the mountain was cooler. We descended the mountain via Henri Robert drive (apparently new to some of our guests) and were soon on Clagiraba road for an undulating and twisty ride to the dam. Morning tea was a cheerful time. Service was speedy and people seemed to be interacting well. Although the temperature was warm, the cafe, which is a fairly open affair, was nicely catching the prevailing cooling breezes. Lunch was to be at the Advancetown hotel, but a short distance from the dam. But we made a decent ride of it by travelling there via Lattimers Crossing road, Mudgeeraba and Springbrook. This is a pleasant little ride and traffic was surprisingly light (and mostly, but not entirely, devoid of two wheeled road warriors). Most pleasing was the willingness of some slower motorists to use the cut-outs to let us by. Sadly, we passed a motorcycle accident, always a sobering experience. This was my first visit to the Hotel. The car-park is a little treacherous, having many potholes, but the pub itself is quite pleasant with a large outdoor area for eating, drinking and listening to live music. I enjoyed my meal and those around me also seemed satisfied with theirs. I would happily lunch there again. As with morning tea, people seemed to be enjoying the company and it was nice to see our few members interspersed with the others. I had planned to return to Brisbane via Beechmont, but the arrival of storm clouds convinced me and most others to return via the Motorway. Overall, a very good day. Thanks to all for attending. Special thanks to: Louise (Gateway social co-ordinator), Chaffey (TEC, from Gateway), and to our very own Mick for taking photos. Cheers, Damian

RIDE 7TH MARCH 2016 The day was looking rather good considering there was a 90% chance of rain. On arriving Damian was there chatting with a couple of local lads while waiting for some familiar faces to ride with. He was not on his lonesome for long and eventually we had 5 riders for the day. There a change of ride destination and was decided to head out to Rathdowney way via the Beaudesert, Darlington Park over the jump which is always an interesting road. I always hold my breath on the sharp corners on the jump hoping that there is no car coming the other way. Not a lot room for error on that road. We left a bit later than usual but we did not care we had no where to go for the day. So once sorted off we went on familiar roads heading to Rathdowney for our first stop. On arriving our attention was drawn to an interesting bike which was CCM Britan bike. After some discussion with the owner we found out it was a one cyclinder 400 cc which was used for flat tracks for racing. It was imported by said owner. Apparently only 120 of these bikes were made and the bike standing before us was #58 off the production line. There had been a modification with a Suzuki motor. Please see photo. When asked on the power of the bike the response was SHE IS SOMEWHAT AGGRESSIVE do I need to say more. These bikes were made between 1972 and Paul left at Rathdowney as he had to be home early afternoon. So it was good bye to Paul and safe trip home. Lunch was at Mt. Alford arriving there just before 12noon. We tuckered into hamburgers with Roelof having a small win in receiving Damian s special burger by mistake. So after some exchange of bacon and pineapple all evened out in the end. Conversation was most interesting staring with the ownership of foreign countries in Australia. To the environment with the stock piles of coal which are kept in the ocean by China and Japan. Politics which is a subject that leaves us wondering. Traffic Stats to the best one yet Avoiding the Big Bang theory a chemistry lesson in mixing Sodium metal and water. A suggestion which was brought up it would not be a good idea to go swimming in the pool when doing this experiment. Thanks Roelof for the big bang theory. We were at Mount Elford for a good hour or so and soon it was time leave about After a quick visit to the ladies I came back to get my camera as there were some hot pics of guys on two walls. I hope the photos turn out. LOL. Also some meaning full messages as well. We virtually separated at Mount Alford with Damian heading to Beenleigh via Beaudesert. Roelof, Michael and Sue heading towards Yamanto and home. Thank you to Damian and friends for great day with no incidents to report for the day. Sue K W (TEC) 0

RIDE ETIQUTTE The following points are offered purely as guidelines --- they are NOT rules On every ride, at all times, you are responsible for your own safety and that of those around you, but the items suggested should make it easier for everyone to enjoy group rides if they are followed when possible. RIDE LEADERS 1. Before leaving, advise riders of destination and proposed stopping points. 2. Minimise lane changes --- there is a convoy behind you. 3. When at rest stops, give 5 minutes notice to riders before leaving. RIDERS 1. Keep at least one bike in view in your mirrors, if possible. 2. Notify Tail---End Charlie if you are leaving the ride. 3. Do NOT overtake on corners, on bends, or at double solid lines. 4. Bikes to be fully fuelled before the start of the ride. 5. Always ride safely and within the law. CORNER MARKERS 1. Each junction is marked by the rider who is behind the ride leader, so others know when to turn off. 2. Pull over safely near the corner/junction with indicator on. 3. Others will see you and know that this is where to turn. 4. Wait for Tail---End Charlie to come into view, and pull out before him/her if safe to do so. 5. If not, wait for Tail---End Charlie to ride past, fall in behind him/her, and overtake when it is safe. ************************************************************ *********************
