JOLINE, a small Ro-Ro with very limited capacity and no shelter on the single, open deck for the animals carried, against any foul weather. CONDITIONS: Poor visibility, light wind, slight sea, muggy and dry. ATTENDING: KAALE monitors with TALE members and the RSPCA. Lastly, Kent police with seventeen (yes folks 17) officers, (times are hard for the police with current budgets so just 17 for these 2 trucks!!) one with video camera unit and with seven (7) vehicles. Does George Osborne know about this money wasting policy in Kent?? The voters of Kent will! Sheet 1

2 Transporters in Full Joline left Calais on the tide in the early hours of the morning and berthed in Ramsgate at 0610 hrs. The first transporter carrying livestock arrived at 0755 hrs hrs (1). Registration: 06 LK 2572 (06 = year of registration, LK = County Limerick in Ireland). Nationality: IRISH REPUBLIC. Name: O BRIEN, with name above windscreen. Sheet 2

4 Grey trailer with animal logo on rear; carrying calves in 3 tiers. This vehicle was inspected by the RSPCA who found nothing amiss. We have no idea if it was inspected by DEFRA as they permanently decline to communicate on these or in fact any other matters with KAALE. We wonder, given that this shipment comprised of only two transporters, and given DEFRA s policy (via government directive) is to inspect only one transporter in three, just how they acted. It seems to be a poor DEFRA show for the day if they pick just one transporter and leave the other one unseen, this one being the very vehicle which could be harbouring animal biosecurity problems (ie. disease). What a good thing the RSPCA are attending with THEIR POLICY TO INSPECT EACH and every transporter. Again, volunteers (KAALE and TALE) and charities (RSPCA) doing the work that the Conservative Minister (Spelman and Paice) government should; especially when the animal exporters are supported by such a huge 17 man George Osbourne police team. After a standstill for its calves on the dock, the O BRIEN vehicle loaded onto the Joline, cab first; and parked at the stern of the ship where the calves cried continuously and piteously hrs (2). Registration: DK 55 RMX. Nationality: ENGLISH. Name: TREVOR HEAD. A Kent based livestock dealer. This (his) transporter which was carrying 3 tiers of sheep is shorter than a normal articulated livestock trailer, and therefore carries less animals. Destined for Belgium and his 10% profit. 5 This vehicle was also inspected by the RSPCA who found nothing amiss. While the inspection of this transporter was taking place, a crew member rushed off of the ship and back to Trevor Head s vehicle, presumably to find out what was happening. They seemed to be in a hurry to get going hrs. Trevor Head s transporter was driven onto the ship, and the very second he was clear of the bow door, it was raised. Two minutes later and the Joline was heading out of Ramsgate port; cutting up a yacht which was also in the process of leaving the harbour; such was the Joline s haste to get out first. Sheet 5
