4 GVCA exhibits Quilt Stories Genesee Valley Council on the Arts is hosting Quilt Stories: Traversing Generations Exhibit through February 2 at its Apartment One Gallery. Quilt Stories: Traversing Generations is the first Livingston County installment of GLOW Traditions Quilt Stories project, initiated in 2017 in Wyoming County. It will feature quilts and needlework whose stories span two or more generations in a family. They are contributed by Wyoming County quilters who have participated in the project, sharing their history and recollections with our GLOW Traditions director, Karen Canning. Both heirloom and modern pieces will be represented, including pieces from Carol Boldt, Patricia Gilbertson, Marie Kuipers, and Valarie Werner. Carol Boldt of Arcade and Valarie Werner of Warsaw each have pieces originating with their great-great grandmothers. The Dresden Plate pattern quilt was created for Valarie s grandmother for her wedding present by Irish immigrant Isabel Mulcahy and her daughter, known to Valarie as Little Grandma. Carol received a quilt top passed down from German-born Dora Holts, to which she added (on the back) photos of the generations between them. Patricia Gilbertson of Gainesville inherited her mother s stash of fabric which she continues to use in her creations, and Marie Kuipers (also from Gainesville) recently created an I Spy quilt for her grandchildren, using all scraps from clothes that she has made for them. These are just a few of the stories that inform and inspire these women s work. The show opened in November. A Meet the Artists reception will be held on January 10 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the arts council, 4 Murray Hill Drive, Mt. Morris, with a snow date of January 17. Come enjoy the warmth and beauty of these local creations. 5 Bristol Mountain opens new High Terrain Park Challenger Trail at Bristol Mountain has been significantly widened and regraded to accommodate the new High Point Terrain Park! This new park is a major improvement to the freestyle/freeride facilities at Bristol Mountain. The park has something for skiers and riders of intermediate and advanced abilities to enjoy as the upper section is wide enough to allow for several lanes of features. Large jump knolls were set into the dirt on the lower section of the park to allow the park to open earlier in the season and stay open longer. The lower section of the park features a pro-size jump that is permanently set into the ground. This jump site has been built to the specifications required to host World Cup Aerial Competitions and Big Air Snowboard/Freeride events as seen in the most recent Winter Olympic Games. It also includes a judges building which allows Bristol to host FIS level competitions and store equipment necessary to maintain the site. Several coaches from the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Team provided on-site technical input related to the construction of this freestyle aerial training site. When in use by elite level athletes for training or competitions the upper section of the park remains open for riders to use and enjoy. U.S. Skiing is extremely excited about the development of a world class freestyle aerial site at Bristol Mountain. This site can be used for elite level international competitions, which may include; U.S. Aerial Selections, NorAm Aerial competitions, and U.S. Aerial National Championships. Chris Seedog Seemann, Technical Advisor U.S. Ski and Snowboard The creation of this pro-size jump at Bristol gives Bristol a capability that few other ski areas in the United States have. The site has been built so that is it scalable to fit the needs of both freeride and freestyle aerial athletes. As part of this overall project, a brand new snowmaking system has been installed on both the Sunset Trail and in the High Point Terrain Park. This system is much more energy-efficient than the system it replaced and includes incremental pumping capacity to the existing snowmaking infrastructure at Bristol. This translates into lots of snow and great conditions in the park. Rail and jump features that were located last season on Upper Galaxy and Upper Meteor have been relocated to the High Point Terrain Park. The existing contours and width of the upper section of the park are being fully utilized to create a variety for different levels of riders. The upper portion of the park features many different types of rails, boxes, and jumps. There is something for everyone! The High Point Terrain Park is ready for this winter s ski season. The construction of this park was made possible by our main sponsor, High Point, as well as our supporting sponsors, which include Neon Wave, The North Face, Superior Energy Services, Morgan Stanley. and Homewood Suites in Victor. At High Point we strive to create a sense of place for our tenants, their employees and the community. Our support of the new terrain park and world-class training facility serves as a continued celebration of the Finger Lakes Region s unique offerings, access to natural resources, and the role Bristol Mountain plays in the enjoyment of all of those things. Bristol Mountain s commitment to our community, our young and aspiring athletes, and the four season enjoyment of outdoors is something we can all be proud of, remarked Fredrick Rainaldi, Managing Partner at Rainaldi Brother Inc., the parent company of High Point. The Shooting Star Terrain Park on Shooting Star Trail has reverted to a true progression park this winter, focusing on building skills for skiers and snowboarders who are new to navigating terrain parks or looking to work on advancing their skill level on rails, boxes, and jump features. Also, your ad can be seen online at now averaging over 1000 hits per month! 2. Your advertising is seen.
