It has been another good week in the best Club in District We all had a relaxing night on Tuesday and heard from Elaine and Ross Prestidge, Rotarians from our Sister Club of Tauranga regarding the delights and arrangements in store for the people who are going to Tauranga in March The arrangements look very exciting and there is a contingent of at least 10 Rotarians coming from Kasaoka, Japan as well. Hon. Member Councillor Paul Taylor (on very short notice) gave us a 5 minute update on what is happening in Broadbeach including the announcement that the Monorail will start up again in We also had the company of Prospective Member Cesere Imeneo introduced by our Tina for his third visit and he is now also rostered for a sizzle (He is a chef). Cesere was made most welcome and we hope to see him at future meetings. We also enjoyed the company of visiting Rotarians Carol Allan (Gold Coast) and Adrian Crowe (Surfers Sunrise). Acting Corporal Bill Rex did his usual great job boosting our ailing general account by an outstanding $57. Club Administration Director Bob Jordan requested Members for a Radio Station sausage sizzle on Sunday at Coolangatta Beach, so if anyone available please see Bob, as he needs starters due to a clash of many events on that day. The Carrara Car Boot sale is on again this Sunday, so if you are rostered, please turn up on time as everybody there has a specific task to do. We now have an official invitation from our New Zealand Sister Club of Tauranga to their 70 th Anniversary along with Kasaoka Club in Japan on March It is also the 10 th year of our 3 sister clubs agreement. Please mark your diaries for this celebration and I thank PP Chris Thomsen who has volunteered to organise our trip. Chris also created the original 3 way Club agreement. Pauline s Committee is well on the way organising a Rotary Day on 22nd February next year at the Eagles Grounds in Southport, which is now a District Event. We will probably be combining this day with our scooter picnic and other District Club s Rotary Projects will be showcased as well according to DG Wendy. Please talk to Pauline about your ideas. Brian is organising a Romac Movie Night on 15 December at the Gold Coast Arts Centre with tickets at $20 per person and screening The Good Lie with Reece Witherspoon. See Brian for bookings and payment.

There is a Rotary Friendship Exchange going in Milan Italy September I have the details if anyone is interested in applying. Our Sister Club Tauranga has asked us for assistance with the Marine Reach Ship of Mercy which addresses Eye Health in the Pacific Islands. The Board will consider this request. The eclub has requested donations for their Kenya Project from a long wish list which is published in this Rotarlight. Please see me for further details if you are able to assist. Nominations for District Governor for the 2017/2018 year are now open and nominations close 13/02/15 to DG Wendy. I have an application form should anyone be interested. Alain is seeking support for his Movember project with all donations going to Prostate Cancer Research. Please consider supporting Alain in this worthy project. Sadly Robert Etta is no longer a Member of the Rotary Club of Broadbeach, so we wish Robert well in his future directions. Thank you to all members who work tirelessly on our Projects and running of the Club in General. Thank you also to the sausage sizzlers and car boot salers last week for a well done job raising around $1100 for the week. Next meeting we will have Michael Irving speaking on Living with Islam, lessons for Australia. Have a good week. I will not be at the next meeting due to another commitment at the Valuers registration Board of Queensland, so Vice President Bill will get some practice running the meeting. Hoo Roo John Rotary Friendship Exchange District 9640/District 5550 Canada Home Hosts Required Broadbeach will be hosting the Team from Canada comprising 5 Rotarian couples from Saturday 28 February 2015 to Tuesday 3 March 2015 inclusive. Part of our Club commitment is to provide home hosting for the five Canadian couples for the four nights. At this stage we have only two volunteer hosts and still require a further 3 members to host a Rotarian couple over this period. This is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy some international fellowship and develop an everlasting friendship with fellow Rotarians. Please contact Neil Jones for further information.

Rotary Fellowship Holiday

Our New Zealand Club at Tauranga is celebrating their 70th Anniversary along with Kasaoka Club of Japan on March "As you are aware, we (the Club members) have been officially invited to the 70th Anniversary of the Tauranga Club. The celebrations will commence on the 13th March (Friday night) continue over the weekend and conclude on the 15th (Sunday evening). At this time, about 10 members of our other Sister Club, Kasaoka in Japan will be attending. An initial investigation has revealed that for a total return cost of $469.00, we can book flights to Auckland on the Friday - leaving from Coolangatta at 8:30am ( Air New Zealand) and returning on the following Monday from Auckland at 1:10pm (Virgin Australia) and arriving at Coolangatta at 1:40pm. The Tauranga Club always puts on a good show and arranges sightseeing trips nearby. If you intend to go, please advise me as follows:- 1. Do you wish to go on the flights above. 2. Do you wish to participate in Home Hosting by the Tauranga members 3. If "no" to 2, do you wish to stay in a Hotel in Tauranga with any others not participating in Home Hosting (our last group stayed at the four and a half star, Trinity Wharf Hotel which is right on the bay & walking distance to the centre of town. Current costs approx $250 p/p for 3 nights for 2 in the room) or would you prefer to make your own arrangements. As cheap flights fill fast and bulk Hotel bookings need to be made as soon as possible, please let me have your advices asap but no later than the 7th December." Cheers Chris Thomsen SCRIBE

FRIDAY FUNNIES HA HA HA A grandmother overheard her 5-year-old granddaughter playing "wedding." The wedding vows went like this: "You have the right to remain silent, anything you say may be held against you, you have the right to have an attorney present. You may kiss the bride." "Last night I played a blank tape at full blast. The mime next door went nuts." --Steven Wright Whenever I feel blue, I start breathing again. All of us could take a lesson from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism. After years of scrimping and saving, a husband told his wife the good news: "Honey, we've finally saved enough money to buy what we started saving for in 1986." "You mean a brand-new Commodore?" she asked eagerly. "No," he replies, "a 1986 Commodore."

An old farmer's 3 attractive daughters all had dates one night. When the doorbell first rang, the farmer answered the door with his shotgun in hand. "Hi, I'm Jim. I'm here to pick up Kim, and we're gonna go for a swim." The farmer allows him to leave with Kim. A few minutes later the doorbell rings again. With shotgun in hand he opens the door. "Hi, I'm Eddy. I'm here to pick up Betty, we're going to go eat spaghetti." The farmer allows him to leave with Betty. A few minutes later the doorbell rings for the third time. After couple of seconds, the farmer's wife, sitting in the living room, hears a gunshot. When the farmer comes back returns, his wife asks, "What happened?" The farmer replies, "That was Chuck." A young man was walking past a blind woman using a cane on a street corner downtown, when she said, "Excuse me, but if it's not too much trouble, can you see me across the street?" Our guy replied, "Just a minute." He walked across the street, looked back and yelled, "Yes, I can see you!" "If you tell the boss you were late for work because you had a flat tire, the next morning you will have a flat tire." --George E. Woodberry "I wish I were telepathic. Not just to read people's minds, which would be cool, but to cut down on my cell phone bill." -Paul Wiley As an instructor in driver education at the local area High School, I've learned that even the brightest students can become flustered behind the wheel. One day I had three beginners in the car, each scheduled to drive for 30 minutes. When the first student completed his time, I asked him to change places with one of the others. Gripping the wheel tightly and staring straight ahead, he asked in a shaky voice, "Should I

stop the car first?" George had been a compulsive worrier for years until hefound a way to overcome this problem. His friends noticedthe dramatic change. "You don't seem to be worried about anything anymore." "I hired a professional worrier for $ a week," George replied. "I haven't had a single problem since." "A thousand a week?" said his friend. "How the hell are you going to pay him?" "Stuff him. That's his problem." The efficiency expert concluded his lecture with a note of caution. "You don t want to try these techniques at home." "Why not?" asked somebody from the audience. "I watched my wife s routine at breakfast for years," the expert explained. "She made lots of trips between the refrigerator, stove, table and cabinets, often carrying a single item at a time. One day I told her, Hon, why don t you try carrying several things at once? " "Did it save time?" the guy in the audience asked. "Actually, yes," replied the expert. "It used to take her 20 minutes to make breakfast. Now I do it in seven." A new young monk arrives at the monastery. He is assigned to help the other monks in copying the old canons and laws of the church by hand. He notices, however, that all of the monks are copying from copies, not from the original manuscript. So, the new monk goes to the head abbot to question this, pointing out that if someone made even a small error in the first copy, it would never be picked up. In fact, that error would be continued in all of the subsequent copies. The head monk, says, "We have been copying from the copies for centuries, but you make a good point, my son." So, he goes down into the dark caves underneath the monastery where the original manuscript is held as archives in a locked vault that hasn't been

opened for hundreds of years. Hours go by and nobody sees the old abbot. So, the young monk gets worried and goes downstairs to look for him. He sees him banging his head against the wall, and wailing "We forgot the "R", We forgot the "R" His forehead is all bloody and bruised and he is crying uncontrollably. The young monk asks the old abbot, "What's wrong, father?" With a choking voice, the old abbot replies, "The word is celebrate." "The word is celebrate, not celebate!" Q: What do rich cats have in their refrigerators? A: Automatic mice makers. Q: How do you call an Eskimo cow? A: An Eskimoo! Q: Why don't astronauts relate well to other people? A: They're not always down-to-earth. Q: What kind of bird can write? A: A PENguin. Q: What did the bird say on Halloween? A: Trick or tweet! Q: What do you give to a pumpkin who is trying to quit smoking? A: A pumpkin patch!!!
