3 MINUTES FOR GENERAL MEETING: September, 2018 CALL TO ORDER: A general meeting of NDSCC was held on Sunday, 16/09/18 at the Toorbul Waterfront. It began at 11:00am and was presided over by President Bob Pritchard, with Graeme Douglas as secretary. ATTENDEES: As per attendance book. APOLOGIES: Chris Collins, Peter Collins TREASURER S REPORT: Balance brought forward: $ Income: $120 Total: $ Julie moved that the treasurer s report be accepted, seconded by Matt Sinagra, carried by all attending members. SECRETARY S REPORT: Graeme would like to thank all the outgoing committee members. We have had a good year, and it s good to see a lot of new members along today we hope to see some new committee members. NEW MEMBERS: Mr. and Mrs. Carter Mr. and Mrs. Wruck Julie moved the new members be accepted, carried by all attending members. SOCIAL DIRECTOR S REPORT: Denise is absent. The Christmas party will be at Centenary Lakes Bowls Club, Caboolture. The meeting was closed at 11:15am to hold the AGM. MINUTES FOR ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING: September, 2018 The Annual General Meeting began at 11:15am. ATTENDEES: As per attendance book. PRESIDENT S REPORT: Thanks to everyone for organising club runs this year. Everyone has done a really fantastic job. We would like to have more people put their hands up to do runs next year and find new places to go where we haven t been before. Also, as a reminder for club raffles: If anyone has any unwanted prizes or gifts that they don t want, we would be happy to accept them to go towards club raffles, or if you see something at the shop that would be good for raffles, donate them to the club. SECRETARY S REPORT: Thank you to everyone for a successful year. It s good to see everyone here today, and I hope you all think about taking a position. Denise and I won t be accepting the secretary role this year. Thank you to Denise for being my secretary, and I hope we have another good year like this year. If anyone has any ideas for runs this year just remember, it s our club; the more we put into it, the more we get out of it. Page 3

These members have been re-elected into their previous roles for longer than 2 years because no one else was nominated and we require someone to be elected to this role for the benefit of the club. 5 CONTINUATION OF GENERAL MEETING: September, 2018 The general meeting was continued at 11:35am following the AGM. GENERAL BUSINESS: Julie moves that we delete the bi-law covering limitations of tenure for members. Move declined: It s a good way to encourage new people to join the committee, and it s not too much effort to acknowledge the bi-law if no one else will take a role. 6 QUEEN S BIRTHDAY LONG WEEKEND REPORT: Stanthorpe, 29/09/18 01/01/18 Organised by Graeme and Denise Douglas, written by Bob Pritchard, photos by Kim Castle We left the lakes to head to our first quick stop where we picked up some friends at Kilcoy. Our first stop after that was Atkinson s Dam for morning tea. The next stop for lunch was Toowoomba. Leaving here, we headed to our final stop for the weekend which was Stanthorpe. After booking in to our accommodation we received our breakfast packs for the weekend. We then went to our cabins to settle in and proceeded to have a well needed drink and sweets. We all met at the accommodation s barbeque area for dinner and we were treated to some well cooked food thanks to our volunteer cook. On Saturday we went to our first stop, Mt. Marlay Lookout, which provided us with a good view of Stanthorpe. Our next stop was Castle Glen Australia Brewery to sample some of their fine wines and buy some supplies, then onto a cheese factory to taste some very nice cheese. After a very scenic drive we headed back to the cabins for a welldeserved break and later we sampled some very nice beers brewed at Castle Glen. Next was dinner at our accommodation s restaurant with a very good variety of dishes to choose from. The NDSCC committee decided to shout our members dinner that night. Sunday morning, after brekky, it was time to pack up and head home after a lot of goodbyes. I am sure that everybody had a fantastic weekend thanks to Graham and Denise who always organise great weekends away. Thank you from everybody. Page 6

7 OCTOBER RUN: Mapleton Tavern, 21/10/18 Organised by Rod and Vanessa Robertson, written by Julie Walters, photos by Kim Castle Well here goes. As I won the lucky car ticket I have to do the run report. Gee we all got to sleep in an extra half hour today. Nice and sunny but storms predicted for the afternoon. 10 cars turned up (the usuals) as Rod and Vanessa brought 2 of their cars out for a run. We left the car park the back way and headed to Woodford for smoko but not your everyday Woodford. Up a very windy, steep and narrow road to a community hall. Don t ask me where it was as it sure was out of the way. By the instructions I think it was Bellthorpe. Frank was having a bit of heating problems with his convertible but after several heads under the bonnet it seemed to be fixed. After a good chinwag we all left heading for our destination. More narrow windy road and motorbikes to contend with blocking the road at one of the turns. Heading towards Kenilworth and on through to Obi Obi Rd to take us to the Mapleton Tavern for lunch. Lots of motorbikes showing off as they went up the street and the tavern was packed. The food was great and lots of it and everyone had a great time but we were all worried about the storm which was building up very quickly. We decided to leave and went the highway via Nambour and we arrived home just as the first drops of rain were coming down but I heard those that left a bit later and went the range way got caught in the SUPER STORM. Thanks to Vanessa and Rod for organizing the run today. Page 7

Mrs. originated as a contraction of the honorific Mistress, the feminine of Mister, or Master, which was originally applied to both married and unmarried women. The split into Mrs. for married women from Ms. And Miss began in the 17 th century. What causes a double rainbow? Secondary rainbows are caused by a double reflection of sunlight inside raindrops. They appear at 10 o outside of the primary rainbow at an angle of o. As a result of the second reflection, the colours of a secondary rainbow are inverted compared to the primary bow, with blue on the outside and red on the inside. Why did the Mississippi River run backwards? In 1811 and 1812, a series of earthquakes emanated from New Madrid, Missouri, and were felt as far away as Ohio and South Carolina. The soil beneath the Mississippi River rose, temporarily changing its course so that it flowed backwards. How long is the longest train in the world? The record was set on June 21, 2001, in Western Australia, between Newman and Port Headland (a distance of 275km or 170 miles). The train consisted of 682 loaded iron ore wagons and 8 locomotives giving a gross weight of almost 100,000 tonnes and moved 82,262 tonnes of ore. The Train was 7.353km or miles long. How many ship wrecks are on the ocean floor? The United Nations estimates that there are over three million shipwrecks on the ocean floors. Lost, destroyed, or deliberately sunk, these wrecks are of interest to divers, underwater archaeologists, and treasure hunters alike.
