We are convinced you come to Company meetings because you get opportunities to see and do things you can t get in any other venue and we have loaded this conference with events that are unique to the Company meeting: 9/11 Panel Discussion is the Tenth Anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Our Thursday evening panel discussion will explore the involvement of several Company members in the aftermath of the 9/11 attack, and in the conflicts since. Visit to the George Neumann Collection at Valley Forge On Friday evening, attendees who join us at the Valley Forge NPS Visitor Center will enjoy a reception with friends of the park, a special showing of artifacts in the George Neumann collection and a talk on the collection by George Neumann himself. Arms & Armor Visit to Philadelphia Museum of Art On Sunday morning, attendees who come with us to the Philadelphia Museum of Art will be treated to a light reception and a talk created for our group by Pierre Terjanian, the J. J. Medveckis Associate Curator of Arms and Armor at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Additional highlights include: Ample flea market / exhibit space. By request of a couple potential exhibitors, we will have round-the-clock security coverage by professional security guards. A dual track of talks. In many sessions you can choose talks on our Return to the Revolution theme or talks on periods that range from the Middle Ages to last month. Saturday afternoon narrated staff ride to explore the Brandywine campaign. We are especially pleased to bring you a conference adapted to the current economic times. Our meeting committee has worked very hard to provide the kind of experience you expect and despite holding the meeting in a major urban area still roll back prices to levels not seen in quite some time. Our full weekend registration is $26 lower than last year s full registration rate full registration rate is... $189 In addition to providing the Saturday field trip and the traditional Saturday banquet, the registration fee includes Friday (light continental) breakfast and Saturday (box) lunch. The hotel will release our block of rooms April 15, but we expect to fill our block long before then. 4 Location and Directions: Animals: Hotel Pet Policy: Hotel Information, continued The Dolce is located near the Pennsylvania Turnpike and the Schuylkill Expressway, just 20 minutes from downtown Philadelphia and 30 minutes from Philadelphia International Airport. Getting to this Philadelphia hotel is easy. The hotel site is a prominent hilltop, and the building can be seen from at least one highway. The directions below are from the Dolce s web site. CAUTION: We have found that MapQuest and Google Maps directions to addresses in the Philadelphia area give accurate route numbers, but wrong exit numbers. If you get lost, the main number at the hotel is From the Northeast - Take the New Jersey Turnpike South to the Pennsylvania Turnpike Exit 6. Follow the Pennsylvania Turnpike West to Exit 326 (Valley Forge). After the toll plaza, take the third right, Exit 328 (Route 202 North - King of Prussia). Dolce Valley Forge hotel is one mile on the right. From the South - Take 95 North to Route 476 North (Exit 7). Take 76 West (Schuylkill Expressway) following signs for Valley Forge to Exit 328 (Route 202 North - King of Prussia). Dolce Valley Forge hotel is one mile on the right. From the East - Take the Atlantic City Expressway to Route 42 to the Walt Whitman Bridge. Follow 76 West (Schuylkill Expressway) to Exit 328 (Route 202 North - King of Prussia). The Dolce prides itself on being a pet-friendly hotel. To make your stay as comfortable as possible, they ask that you carefully read over the terms of acceptance: (See Pet Policy below) 2 pets per guest room, limited to 30 lbs. The hotel will authorize an amount of $50.00 per day, per pet (in addition to the amount authorized for room, tax and incidentals) to your credit card upon check-in. There will be a $50.00 non-refundable fee posted to your bill per day, per pet. Should additional cleaning or repairs be necessary, due to your pet, the hotel reserves the right to charge an additional cleaning fee, if deemed necessary. All pets must be leashed or carried while in public places of the hotel. Per local health code regulations, pets are not permitted in any public area where food service is offered, such as the restaurant or the lounge. The Dolce cannot allow pets to have access to the Health and Fitness area including the pool. Please coordinate with housekeeping a time in which you and your pet will be out of the room, so they may service your room. Please give the reception team your cell phone number in case of emergency. You agree to ensure your pet doesn t disrupt the quiet enjoyment of all hotel guests due to excessive barking or noise. If you must leave your pet unattended in the room, all pets must be securely kept in a travel case, in the interest of safety for our guests and employees. Mr. Zlatich, DSA and Fellow, is a well known authority on uniforms of the American Revolution. He is the author of General Washington s Armies, Volumes 1 and 2 as well as many other books and articles. Mr. Zlatich s presentation will summarize the extensive research and analysis he performed, at the request of the National Museum of American History, to verify the provenance and dating of the various articles comprising General Washington s uniform.. More FBI Tales of Stolen and Recovered Art and Artifacts Stolen Artifact Recovery by the FBI (part 2) Robert K. Wittman. Back by popular demand is Robert K. Wittman, founder of the FBI s Art Crime Team and called the the most famous art detective in the world by the London Times. Mr. Wittman held last year s attendees spellbound with his accounts of tracking down and recovering stolen historical artifacts. Mr. Wittman will also be selling and autographing his latest book. 6 Draft Program / Schedule Continued Company Meeting Session Lecture Session B Regimental Colors in the War for American Independence: Their Manufacture and Appearance Steven W. Hill. Presented by Steven W. Hill, Exhibits Manager at the National Museum of Health and Medicine at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Mr. Hill has been researching and making reproduction flags for over thirty years. Mr. Hill s presentation will concentrate on the misrepresentations and the correct appearance of the colors of the Revolution. Army Museums in the 21 st Century: the New National Infantry Museum at Fort Benning Dr. Charles Cureton. Dr. Cureton is Director Army Museums, Center of Military History. His presentation consists of an overview of the Army Museum Program as it is being reshaped to the needs of a new century. Emphasis will be on views of the recently opened National Infantry Museum and its exhibits as representative of the present and future direction of Army museums Lunch on your Own: Feast or forage to suit your diet and budget. You have plenty of choices; in addition to the hotel s own restaurant, bar and café, Mapquest finds 20 eating establishments within a half-mile, and 120 within about 2-1/2 miles of the Dolce Lecture Session C Benedict Arnold s 1781 British Campaign In Virginia Edwin Besch. Company Fellow Edwin Besch, noted military historian and writer, will summarize the early conduct of this quintessential American traitor. His presentation will concentrate on Arnold s post-1780 period, following his defection to the British, with particular emphasis on his 1781 campaign in Virginia with the Loyalist American Legion. Artifacts Recovered From the 18 th Century British Sloop Boscawen in Lake Champlain Christopher D. Fox. Mr. Christopher D. Fox, Curator of Collections at the Fort Ticonderoga Museum is an authority on 18 th century military artifacts and culture. His presentation will cover the history of the sloop Boscawen as well as its 1980 excavation from the floor of Lake Champlain. A survey of the large and varied collection of mid-18 th century artifacts recovered from the wreck will also be presented. Page 6

7 Draft Program / Schedule Continued Lecture Session D General Rochambeau s French Army Rene Chartrand. Mr. Rene Chartrand, DSA with star, and Fellow, is a retired curator of Canada s National Historic Sites network as well as a prolific author and internationally renowned military historian. Mr. Chartrand will present a heavily illustrated lecture on the organization and material culture of the large French army sent to America under General Rochambeau during the period The US Army Duty Uniform, : A Soldier's Perspective SFC Timothy R Messman. SFC Tim Messman has served twenty-four years in Infantry, Reconnaissance, LRS and Special Forces units since 1986, on Active Duty, in the Reserves and in the National Guard. SFC Messman's talk will focus on twenty plus years of US Army Uniform history, from , a period of time in which rapid changes to the uniform were the norm rather than the exception. SFC Messman's collection of uniforms, issued to and worn by him during his service, is representative of the changes that the uniform has gone through during that time Company Chapter Meetings Chapter representatives meet with V.P. Neumann. The eminent Mr. George C. Neumann, author, collector, and renowned authority on all things of the American Revolution will speak on the early days of collecting, his mentors, and the adventure of collecting military material culture. Mr. Neumann was one of the pioneers in preserving, collecting, and researching artifacts from the American Revolution and his reminiscences are sure to keep us all enthralled. Page 7

Company member Todd Braisted is a long-time researcher of the Loyalist cause during the American Revolution. He is an author and has appeared as a Guest Historian on the PBS series History Detectives. Mr. Braisted s presentation will deal with the raising of Loyalist units within Philadelphia and the effect that the desertion from Washington s army while at Valley Forge had on these units. Jack Nastyface and His World: The Archaeology of His Majesty s Brig DeBraak Charles H. Fithian. As Curator of Archaeology with the Delaware Division of Historical and Cultural Affairs, Charles Fithian is responsible for the curation of the extensive archaeological collections of the State of Delaware, and for conducting historical and archaeological research. His presentation will focus on His Majesty s brig DeBraak, which was capsized and lost off the Delaware on May 25, 1798, while on convoy escort duty. Discovered in 1984, the vessel and its associated 20,000 artifact collection permits an unparalleled view into the Royal Navy and life at sea during the late eighteenth century. This lecture will outline the historical context for this small warship, and will present an overview of the research and analysis into this extensive naval/maritime collection Lecture Session F A Royal Discovery: The Battle of Brandywine and the Robertson Map, or How George III Learned About the Battle Thomas J. McGuire. Thomas J. McGuire is a noted historian and researcher specializing in the American Revolution. Mr. McGuire has been researching the Battle of Brandywine, both in this country and in England and will use the Capt. Archibald Robertson map and diary to explain this important battle. Page 8
