The original 7,100 sqft historical terminal building was constructed by United Airlines in 1942 and expanded in 1976 to 20,000 sqft. In 1976, the Airport served 398,000 passengers annually. By 2010, it is forecasted that Santa Barbara Airport will serve approximately 890,000 passengers per year. The Airline Terminal Improvement Project includes the construction of a new 67,000 square foot terminal building and incorporates the original 7,100 square foot historical terminal building, which will be relocated from its current location. Mr. Connors has over 23 years of professional engineering experience managing construction of both public and private projects. Since 2003, Mr. Connors has managed the construction of several airport projects with a total construction value of over $30,000,000. 2 LAST MEETING VENTURA COUNTY TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION The Ventura County Transportation Commission (VCTC) is a governing board whose primary responsibility is to keep Ventura County moving! Darren Kettle, the Executive Director of the VCTC, spoke about the funding crisis for transportation at the Federal and State levels and how that might affect Ventura County. He also spoke about local projects and programs that may need to be considered to address transportation system needs. ASCE Ventura/Santa Barbara Young Members Forum Happenings The Santa Barbara-Ventura Section Younger Members Forum (YMF) had some great events this summer including a day of wine tasting in the Santa Ynez Valley in July and a technical tour of a Jackand-Bore construction site under Hwy 126 in Fillmore in late August. Several of our new officers attended the Los Angeles YMF Section Leadership Workshop on August 6, where they met with other YMF members throughout SoCal and brought back some great ideas for events and meetings. Our group wrapped up the summer with a 2-night camping trip at Sycamore Canyon. ASCE / State of California Office of Emergency Services (OES) Disaster Volunteer Service Worker Training Class Qualified individuals who can register for the class include California Registered Civil, Structural, Geotechnical, Certified Engineering Geologists, or Architects. The class is being presented to train Section members to assist local and state government agencies in providing Civil Engineering damage assessment during emergencies occurring within the Section and/or State or National boundaries. Cost is $25 and seating is limited. This training class is being presented by Jack Rolston, P.E., M.ASCE., and is being organized for volunteers to help in the event of a major disaster under the auspices of the OES. Jack is a native Californian who graduated from Stanford with Engineering Degree and he works as a geotechnical engineer. His work includes dams in Afghanistan during construction, and managing exploration and design of a dam in Okinawa. He has worked for Caltrans and ACOE in the L.A. District. Wednesday, November 19, 2008 Time: 9:30 a.m. Marine Center Classroom Santa Barbara Harbor just off Harbor Way Drive On September 25, SB-Vta YMF kicked off the year with a general meeting in Carpentaria that featured a trivia contest to win one of our newly designed T-shirts. We brainstormed some great ideas for the upcoming year including a Ventura verses Santa Barbara bowling tournament in November with a re-match featuring putt-putt golf in spring. We are planning some new technical tours for the fall/winter and preparing for some guest speakers and informal workshops covering topics like preparing your own taxes, how to get your project LEED certified, and how to prepare yourself for working on construction sites and with contractors as a new/young engineer. Also, we are beginning to plan our annual holiday party, Mammoth 2009, and sort out details for this year s WRYMC conference in San Francisco.
