2 INVITATION TO ATTEND On behalf of the International Plasma Chemistry Society (IPCS), we would like to invite everyone to the 21st International Symposium on Plasma Chemistry which will be held from the 4th to the 9th of August 2013 in Cairns, Australia. The Australian Organising Committee is pleased to hold the symposium in one of the most interesting towns in Australia. ISPC 21 will be held at the excellent Cairns Convention Centre which is only a ten minute drive from the Cairns International Airport and is renowned for its unique environmental design. Cairns is situated in Tropical North Queensland and is the gateway to both the Great Barrier Reef and ancient tropical rainforests. It is a favourite holiday and conference destination for overseas visitors and Australians alike. We are holding the symposium in the Australian winter but have no fear! The average daytime air temperature is 24 degrees Celsius with low humidity and clear blue skies. Because the latitude is within the tropic of Capricorn, the water temperature is also a warm 24 degrees Celsius, perfect for swimming and snorkeling. The ISPC has gained popularity over the past few years and now represents scientists from all the major continents of the world. Its breadth of subject matter has now expanded and we will be having a number of sessions on the medical uses of plasmas and the physics underlying the many different types of atmospheric plasmas that are used. All of us look forward to welcoming you to ISPC 21 in Australia! Yours sincerely, Rod Boswell and Tony Murphy Conference Chairs 2

3 EVENT OVERVIEW ISPC is a major bi-annual international conference with topics encompassing the whole area of plasma chemistry and processing science. The aim of the symposium is to present the recent progress in plasma chemistry and its applications. Held at the Cairns Convention Centre in Queensland, Australia, the conference will attract over 400 plasma chemistry experts from around the world. It will include plenary lectures, invited and contributed oral presentations and poster sessions. The whole area of plasma processing from fundamentals to applications will be covered. The official language of the symposium is English. For more information on ISPC 21, please visit ABOUT IPCS The International Plasma Chemistry Society (IPCS) has been formed as the successor of the association named IUPAC Subcommittee on Plasma Chemistry. The purpose of the Society is the promotion of scientific activity, the organization and implementation of scientific meetings and presentations, as well as the recognition of excellence in the area of Plasma Chemistry. All registered participants at the biennial International Symposium on Plasma Chemistry (ISPC) automatically become members of the IPCS for the two years following the Symposium. WHY YOU SHOULD ATTEND This is an opportunity to broaden your knowledge, debate key issues, share experiences and explore the beauty of Queensland with experts in plasma chemistry from around the world. Cairns is the ideal conference venue, with easy airline access, outstanding facilities, and the worldfamous Great Barrier Reef on one side and beautiful tropical rainforests on the other. August is the ideal time of year to visit, with average maximum temperatures of 27 C (80 F) and little chance of rain. The International Plasma Chemistry Society is looking forward to welcoming you in Australia! THE VENUE The award winning Cairns Convention Centre is only ten minutes from the Cairns International Airport, Australia s gateway to the Asia Pacific region.
