Cyclone DEBBIE Our thoughts are with all of our fellow Vice Commodores who have been effected by Cyclone Debbie This a review of the damage inflicted on our SICYC community in the Whitsunday region. Some of our members lost their boats, others sustained varying damage whilst others lost almost all of their personal belongings. We are very pleased to say that all SHAGGERS survived!!!!

Montes is now up and running CAPE GLOUCESTER RESORT Cape Gloucester has sustained considerable damage and is likely not to be open for a couple of months... They will keep us up to date on progress...our thoughts are with you Steve and Jules. CAPE GLOUCESTER WILL BE OPEN FOR RENDEZVOUS 2017

8 Sea Safety Course As part of the early bird activity, leading up to Rendezvous 2017, we welcome back SUNSHINE SAILING AUSTRALIA (SSA). On Thursday 24 August SSA WILL CONDUCT THE SEA SAFETY / SURVIAL COURSE at Cape Gloucester Resort. This is an ideal course for cruising couples.. Elements covered are: SAR METHODS AVAILABLE, LIFE RAFT DRILLS, DAMAGE CONTROL PERSONAL SAFETY EQUIPMENT, EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS8 Includes lunch at Cape Gloucester BOOKINGS ESSENTIAL PRIOR TO THE RENDEZVOUS... 9 SICYC Presentation Evening Presentation of SALTYS, The SICYC Hero Award 2016, and The THANK YOU certificates to local recipients will take place at HEMINGWAYS Restaurant at Abell Point Marina, Airlie Beach.. 29 July The presentation evening will be a Gala Masked cocktail party. HEMINGWAYS is a new and very up market restaurant at Abell Point Marina. Special Guests will be Mr Jim Hughes AO Chair of the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA) Nation Board and Mr Richard Bennett Queensland PCFA Board. 10 Wide Bay Bar Update from Coast Guard Tin Can Bay... WIDE BAY BAR UPDATE: The Survey Vessel "Norfolk" was on the Wide Bay Bar recently conducting a long-awaited survey of the Bar to determine the extent of the shoaling problems we've been experiencing once again. Since the completion of the survey, we've had a meeting with the Gladstone Harbour Master (he's in charge of our local area) to discuss the survey outcome. It seems that what we have long suspected - and mariners have reported - about the Bar is now confirmed and as a result, there will be significant changes to navigation of the Wide Bay Bar. MSQ (through the Gladstone Harbour Master) have confirmed that they will be taking action in the near future to address the navigation issues through: - the issuing of updated Notices to Mariners - the realignment of the Hook Point light to a new bearing - the reissuing of reference points for crossing the Bar PLEASE NOTE the following: - New reference points will NOT be issued until the Hook Point light has been realigned! - The NtM 101 will remain current until a new temporary NtM is issued by MSQ - we'll let you know when this is available. In the meantime, we advise all mariners navigating the Wide Bay Bay to: - continue checking with our Radio Room for the latest information before commencing a crossing - log on before you commence a crossing (even if it is for only crossing the Bar) - exercise due care, caution and attention while crossing the Bar.

A Day on the Broadwater Max and Pam "Vice Commodores" Amity Point and Tangalooma bid a handsome $ value for a day on the Gold Coast waterway on a beautiful Riviera. 15 Julie and Judi Darlingford Waters and Moon Point Banks are on their way home after a great weekend with WWSA... They had a great time and enjoyed informative guest speakers. A Good Story from DEBBIE Meg and Darren " Vice Commodores" Akaroa Harbour and Hunt Passage tied up in the mangroves and waited out Debbie.. Their story.. "Well hello world - we made it through TC Debbie! And what a big old slow weather bomb she was. So glad we sheltered in the Mangroves, even though at times we felt we were going to be flung into the stratosphere. Looking around the tree's in the hills surrounding us have been completely stripped bare. We were stuck there for a further day as its continued to blow Storm Force outside, spending the day cleaning up and drying out. Nature humbles us..." Well Done Guys!!!
