4 Group Financial Performance Achieving sound financial results for the year, the Invercargill Licensing Trust and ILT Foundation were able to provide a high level of grants totalling $8.03 million to local community organisations. A significant increase in the Invercargill Licensing Trust profit is explained in the notes below. ILT (Group) Net After-Tax Profit 2016 ($) 2015 ($) u Invercargill Licensing Trust (Parent) 10,704,000 5,582,000 u Change in Value of Associate Company (38,000) (42,000) u ILT Foundation 4,552,000 4,332,000 u Consolidated Group 15,218,000 9,872,000 u Less Grants Allocated (8,030,000) (8,012,000) u Net Surplus for the year 7,188,000 1,860,000 Overview for the year ended 31 March 2016 u The Invercargill Licensing Trust recorded a significant level of profit after tax for the year. This resulted from an increase in trading profit along with benefit from the gain on sale of a property asset, a lower level of project maintenance costs and the inclusion of a large taxation refund from prior years. u Value of Associated Company: The value of the Trust s investment in DB South Island Brewery Ltd decreased by $38,000 due primarily to the timing of profit distributions which affects the net tangible asset value included in the Group financial statements. u The ILT Foundation achieved an increase in profit to a total of $4.552 million (up from $4.332 million) due to a small increase in sales and continued good control of operating expenses. u The Invercargill Licensing Trust and the ILT Foundation allocated grants totalling $8.03 million for the year a slight increase on last year s grants of $8.012 million but still representing a substantial level of funding provided to benefit the local community. Invercargill Licensing Trust Financial Performance The Invercargill Licensing Trust s pre-tax operating surplus, before grants, is $8.462 million considerably higher than last year s result of $6.844 million and ahead of our budget expectations. Contributing influences were the inclusion of a gain on sale of the Waikiwi Tavern land and buildings and a lower level of project maintenance work embarked on during the year. When these two factors are excluded, the comparable trading profit before tax is $7.343 million compared to $6.844 million last year an increase of 7.3%. u The net after-tax profit, before grants, is $ million compared to last year s result of $5.582 million. This substantial increase is the result of the improved pre-tax trading profit noted above, and the inclusion of a large taxation refund from prior years. u Total sales for the year were $82.5 million up 1.8% on last year s total of $81.0 million. Higher accommodation sales and off-premise beverage sales contributed to the increase, while restaurant sales were on par with last year and on-premise (bar) sales were down 4.2%. u Investment income was maintained at similar levels to last year. u Operating expenses were well managed with a small decrease on the previous year. u Grants of $4.002 million were allocated, a similar level to last year s total of $4.001 million. Financial Strength The Trust s financial position remains very strong with a low level of term debt and total assets of $94.7 million, compared to $87.8 million last year. This includes substantial cash reserves available for future development projects which will ultimately benefit our community. u Equity has increased by $6.68 million to a total of $78.6 million. 5 Investing in the Future Hospitality has always been at the heart of our business. The challenge of exceeding the expectations of our clientele in a world of evolving trends is one we embrace with gusto. After all, reputation is everything in this industry. As a Trust, we have a well-structured plan for ongoing investment in our portfolio. Our commitment to reinvesting substantial levels of capital expenditure back into our businesses plays a vital role in our future success as well as maintaining our relevance to the community. During the past year projects invested in have included: WAIKIWI TAVERN: u With the sale of the old Waikiwi Tavern in Gimblett Street and the subsequent purchase of a new site on North Road, construction of a new restaurant and tavern development commenced. The project is expected to be completed in early October 2016 and will be an exciting new venture to enable us to better cater for the substantial population based in the Waikiwi/Grasmere area. ASCOT PARK HOTEL: u Ongoing reinvestment in our flagship hotel property continued, including final payments made on the refurbishment of all motel units and planning for more projects early in the new financial year. LONE STAR CAFÉ AND BAR: u We successfully completed a major redevelopment of the bar area adding to the appeal of this popular café bar. KELVIN HOTEL: u A continuation of our plan to maintain this hotel at a standard which meets its target market, the bathroom areas on the third and fifth floors were refurbished. Further work will be completed in the new financial year, including the replacement of the two guest lifts. A NEW ACQUISITION: u During the year, the Trust entered into an agreement to purchase the former Southland Times building on Esk Street, adjacent to the Kelvin Hotel. Possession will take place on 30 June The acquisition will provide us with a viable option for developing new hotel accommodation in the inner city or future development opportunities for the Kelvin Hotel. LIQUOR DISTRIBUTION BUSINESS: u By year end we had completed negotiations to acquire the assets of a Central Otago liquor distribution business, Beaver Liquor Ltd based in Queenstown. This company supplies a significant number of bars and restaurants in the Queenstown basin and we took ownership from 1 April It will provide us with a step change in our wholesale liquor distribution business in that region one we have been involved with for many years and will now enable us to grow our business model. ILT Foundation The ILT Foundation was established by the Invercargill Licensing Trust to own and operate all gaming machines in its establishments. It s an innovative model designed to ensure a maximum level of grants are returned to our community. In this regard, the ILT Foundation has consistently been one of the highest performing of all gaming trusts in New Zealand. Acutely aware of its social responsibilities, the ILT Foundation is actively implementing harm minimisation practices and considered by the Department of Internal Affairs to be a leader in this important aspect of its operation. Jackie Flutey ILT Foundation Manager u The ILT Foundation s net surplus of $4.552 million represents a 5% increase on last year s result of $4.332 million. u Revenue at $9.394 million was up nearly 4% on last year. u Total grants allocated for the year were $4.027 million, (last year $4.011 million). u During the year the Appleby Tavern, one of the venues at which the ILT Foundation operated gaming machines, was closed. The ILT Foundation now operates 163 gaming machines in 10 venues. u Trustees of the ILT Foundation have an unwavering focus on community benefit and grant distributions reflect this by supporting an array of Invercargill charitable and amateur organisations across the arts, culture, education, welfare, health, religion, sport and recreational activities. u The ILT Foundation Board is comprised of all current Invercargill Licensing Trust Board members, together with the Trust s solicitor Chris Ward and Jason McKenzie. HOW EACH DOLLAR OF ILT FOUNDATION INCOME IS DISTRIBUTED Surplus available for Grants 49.0% Gaming Machine Duty 23.0% Administration Costs 2.3% Operating Expenses 19.6% Depreciation 6.1% APPLEBY TAVERN SALE: u Subsequent to balance date, the Trust entered into an unconditional sale and purchase agreement for the sale of the Appleby Tavern, with settlement due on 1 July The decision to sell was made after considerable analysis revealed the Tavern was no longer relevant due to a declining residential base and therefore not financially viable. ILT Foundation 2016 Operating Surplus (before grants): $4.552 million

6 supporting our Trust it s a powerful word and one we take very seriously. With a publicly elected board at the helm, our Trust is directly accountable to the community we represent. The people of Invercargill trust us to administer the sale of sensitive products such as alcohol and gaming. They trust us to reinvest strategically back into our business for future sustainability so generations to come will continue to reap the rewards. They trust us to have the advancement of community and social goals at our core, enhancing the city within which we operate by initiating and funding valuable projects. This is the Trust s uniqueness and why it is a vitally important contributor to the Invercargill community. The Invercargill Licensing Trust and the ILT Foundation dispense millions of dollars each year, playing an integral role in every sector of society. To gauge the value of our funding solely on the figures involved would do it an injustice. The genuine worth is evidenced by what the money has tangibly achieved for the people of our city. She recalls flying back into Invercargill Airport from the international competition staged in Ireland and being whisked off the tarmac in (then) Mayor Eve Poole s limo to an official reception at the Grand Hotel. Maryanne continued to work for the ILT, both at the Grand and later the Kelvin Hotel, for many Maryanne when crowned Rose of Tralee in 1988, and Maryanne today. (Photos courtesy of years. 7 community Education Education is a gift no-one can take away. That s why we ve invested over $1.3 million into educational grants during the past year. The following is merely a snapshot. 143 Enrich@ILT STUDENTS STUDENTS Invercargill Secondary School Network Now in its 10th year, the ILT Tertiary Scholarship Scheme has provided over 600 scholarships to Invercargill students attending tertiary education - totalling over $3.6 million. Ashlee Neiborg, one of the first scholarship recipients, shares her story: As a young woman leaving high school and heading into tertiary education, I knew I had a number of important decisions ahead of me as well as the financial commitments which accompany full time study. I attended Aurora College and in my final year in 2006 I decided that I would pursue a career in teaching, training in the primary sector. My teachers encouraged me to apply for one of the ILT Tertiary Scholarships being offered at the time and I was lucky enough to be one of the recipients alongside a number of other students across Invercargill heading off to university. I chose to study at the University of Otago College of Education in Invercargill and, as I was not living at home during my study, the financial support of the ILT scholarship was invaluable to reduce the size of my student loan. I have now been teaching for seven years at Otatara Primary School. I am passionate about teaching and learning and enjoy the challenges and rewarding nature of this profession. I am proud to say that as of the end of last year, I have now paid off my student loan debt with the help of my scholarship and can enjoy my maternity leave with my two children. Thank you Invercargill Licensing Trust. 8 Pedalling to the Top of the World Build it and they will come. Well, the results certainly have for cycling. What started as a wish for the Invercargill cycling community 20 years ago is now making dreams come true for a new generation of cyclists. When the Southland Indoor Leisure Centre Charitable Trust gave the go ahead for a velodrome to be added to the Stadium Southland complex, the ILT was at the start line with vital funding for the development. In addition, the Trust s board, executives and staff were actively involved in the team which made it a reality. The benefits of this world-class facility have been well-documented ever since - from world records to Olympic gold medals. The ILT Foundation has proudly supported Emma Cumming, Bradley Knipe and Tom Sexton over the past three years and congratulate them on their recent success at the UCI Junior Track Cycling World Championships held in Switzerland. Emma Cumming and Ellesse Andrews training at the SIT Zero Fees Velodrome (Photo courtesy of The Southland Times) Congratulations also to Pieter Bulling, Natasha Hansen and Eddie Dawkins on their selection to the 2016 New Zealand Olympic Team. We are proud to have played a part in your journey to Rio. The results we ve seen (in the 2016 UCI Junior Track Cycling World Championships) are a true testament to the foresight of those who shared the belief and visions more than a decade ago to build a covered velodrome in Invercargill and have continued to support the sport and Cycling Southland. Mark Hotton GENERAL MANAGER, CYCLING SOUTHLAND 1000 Days Trust Making a Positive Difference The 1000 Days Trust is another innovative project initiated right here in Invercargill which we ve relished the opportunity to support through both the ILT and ILT Foundation. At risk Southland babies and families are benefitting from the 1000 Days Trust piloting a specialised service available during the first 1000 days of a child s life. The Trust has developed a true early intervention model which aims to promote healthy parent/infant relationships and assists with the prevention of secondary problems which may arise from a broad range of early risk factors. The 1000 Days model consists of a residential service and a comprehensive follow on programme for whānau. The intended outcome of the 1000 Days model is to empower mothers and/or fathers with the tools to nurture their children to reach their full potential. After all, the children are our future Days Trust member Lyndsay Tautari (photo courtesy of the Southland Times) We are hugely appreciative of the support from the Invercargill Licensing Trust and ILT Foundation. The ILT s contribution has been vital in ensuring we can continue to help vulnerable Southland parents and their infants. Together we can help the community positively address the complex issues many young families face. The ILT s support represents a meaningful and tangible contribution to the trust s vision of strengthening local communities and providing a significantly more positive future for these babies and their whānau Prue Halstead CHAIRPERSON OF 1000 DAYS TRUST

9 Alan Dennis Adv Dip TCHG, President Mike Mika LL.B, BA Deputy President The newly refurbished Emberz Restaurant Ascot Park Hotel Sean Bellew TO THE FUTURE Motivated by our desire to provide quality licensed premises for our community to enjoy, the Trust will continue to reinvest in our businesses in the 2016/17 year, with further significant investment planned the following year. We will continue to be actively involved in planning for a vitally-needed inner city rejuvenation programme. As we eye the potential development of a new hotel, we view our role in this process as an important one. The Invercargill Licensing Trust s budgeted pre-tax profit, for the coming year, is expected to be slightly higher than this past year s result, after excluding capital gains and extraordinary items. The ILT Foundation is also budgeting for a small increase in profit for the coming year. The level of financial and other support provided by the Group to the numerous community organisations we assist for the coming year is expected to be at comparable levels to the past year. Appreciation Where there is teamwork and collaboration, wonderful things can be achieved. Every member of our Board, management and staff are committed to our vision for Invercargill and that s reflected in our continuing success. We wish to record our sincere thanks for the extraordinary contribution they make to our Trusts and the wider community we serve.
