We have also formulated a strategy for our Vision 2015, to reach a group turnover of Rs. 10,000 crores by the year Wish you all a Happy New year! Accolades Tekla India customer wins global BIM award December 2010 Tekla Global BIM Awards 2010 were announced on 14 December for the following three categories- Best BIM project, Best project in Steel segment and Best project in Concrete segment. Winner of the Steel segment category is Yugasoft, a leading edge e Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) provider of CADD services to Architects, Structural Engineers, Core Industries and Fabricators, for their Chennai airport expansion project located in India. Yugasoft is the Engineering Design & Research Division (EDRD) of the premier ISO Certified construction company, Consolidated Construction Consortium Ltd. (CCCL), whose turnover exceeds INR 18 billion On receiving this valuable award, Mr. Mahadevan.K, Head CADD BPO, Yugasoft said We are delighted that our Tekla Model of Chennai Airport Expansion Project has won the Global Tekla BIM model competition. The modeling work was a challenging task and we appreciate the commendable co-operation offered by Tekla India team. We look forward to doing many more complex models in future with Tekla s Technical assistance". Sutter Medical Center in Castro Valley, USA is the winner in the best BIM project category as well as popular public vote. It was modeled by a unique 11-party cross organizational IPD (International Project Delivery) team. Hurks Delphi Engineering won in the Concrete category by modelling an office building at Catharina-Amaliastraat in the Netherlands. Finnish engineering office Ylimäki & Tinkanen gained special recognition for exemplary BIM collaboration in an ordinary housing project with their model of residential building Gramofoni in Helsinki, Finland. The winners of the competition were chosen by a jury of leading BIM experts around the world: Professor Charles Eastman of Georgia Institute of Technology, Björn K. T R A I N I N G Management has provided an excellent opportunity to the existing and upcoming project managers working at various project sites to advance their career by enabling them to attend project management skills training programmes being conducted at Chennai. So far 7 batches have completed training and 8th batch is about to start. Top management s commitment to the programmes can be seen from their active participation in the programmes despite their busy schedule. About 75 Project Managers so far have undergone the training. As a follow up measure, evaluation of effectiveness of Project Managers who underwent training was also taken up for Project Managers who attended in batches 1-5. Evaluations were conducted at Bangalore, Chennai and Delhi. Our Chairman Mr.R.Sarabeswar handled a technical session in planning module for project managers for the 6th batch PM training programme held at Saligramam, Chennai on A session on 5S awareness was conducted at Bangalore R.O on for employees from P&M department of RMC, Godown and project sites. Mr.Somraj would coordinate and facilitate with concerned P&M staff for initiating and implementing 5S in RMC plants, godown and project sites in Bangalore region. 6 In the news: Mock Drill Exercise at INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT EXPANSION (HPI-CCCL JV) at Chennai Worker got electric shock from welding machine. Site incharge informed emergency controller. Emergency controller informed to First Aid Rescue / Admin / Safety teams. Safety team direct all workers to move to safe assemble point. First Aid team giving CPR treatment. Rescue team carrying the victim to ambulance on their way to hospital. Workers assemble at safe assemble point. Head count done by Admin team. Safety team explained the incident to all. In order to create awareness and preparedness to all workmen on safety, a mock drill exercise conducted at Chennai Airport expansion project site on 13th December 2010, by simulating an accident scenario. Description of the Scenario : A Welder named Mr Raja working for Voltas India pvt Ltd was doing fabrication for Fire Fighting Hydrant pipe work at Arrival side of the site. When he switched on the welding machine, he got an electrical shock and fell on the ground and was unconscious. Coworkers nearby who witnessed the incident informed the supervisor and the project Manager. Action Taken: The supervisor in-charge for the job who saw the incident immediately informed the Emergency controller ( Project Manager). Emergency controller informed Rescue team, First Aid Team, Security Team, Admin Team and Safety Team about the incident and directed all the teams to act on the emergency and evacuate all. 6

7 In the news: S A F E T Y The Rescue team arrived at the spot to evacuate the victim. First Aid team gave Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) treatment to victim to restore the breathing. Rescue team took the victim to an emergency vehicle (Ambulance) to move the victim to nearby hospital for further treatment. Safety team directed all site staff and workmen to assemble at SAFE ASSEMBLE POINT Security team prevented all inward vehicle & unknown workers and visitors from entering into site. Head count was carried out by Admin team. After the head count, it was found that one person only was affected by the incident. Safety Team briefed all about the cause of accident as it was due to leakage of current passing on the machine, due to improper earthing arrangement and also the worker wore gloves and shoes, which were wet. Further, the safety team explained what preventive action had to be taken to avoid such incidents and also on how to respond to in such a situation without any panic or fear. Observations Every team demonstrated well and acted quickly. Every one seemed to be cautious and assembled at assembly point. Ambulance arrived to the incident spot within 10minutes. Clearly explained the electrical hazard and its consequences. Similar mock drill exercise was conducted at Goa Airport project site on 2nd December 2010 by simulating a different kind of accident, to workmen working in the site. So let not people take life for granted. The second wish of strewing gold, silver and other riches on the way to the graveyard is to tell people that not even a fraction of gold will come with me. I spent all my life earning riches but cannot take anything with me. Let people realize that it is a sheer waste of time to chase wealth. And about my third wish of having my hands dangling out of the coffin, I wish people to know that I came empty handed into this world and empty handed I go out of this world." With these words, the king closed his eyes. Soon he let death conquer him and breathed his last. 11
