Coromandel winter festival of light 04/ 04- July lights/ This is the festival s first year, and with all things that are new everyone is pretty excited about it and not too sure what to expect.

The town has a warm feel and you can t help but feel comfortable. We are putting the spot light onto this place and its unique character, and will warm up the winter for 0 nights.

The thing that we hope to highlight is the place itself and the people. Coromandel town has been home to and attracted a diverse and eclectic mix of people over many years. The town has a warm feel and you can t help but feel comfortable. We are putting the spot light onto this place and its unique character, and will warm up the winter for 0 nights. /intro: stories/ Coromandel town has a story to tell. The place is diverse and full of heritage both natural and social. And again the social heritage is multifaceted; landfall for the first Polynesian arrivals, focal point of European settlers, pioneers and adventurers, social experimenting ground for alternative communities. Lie the place itself, the people who live here now and those of the past have amazing stories behind them. Part of the festival is about these stories. wonder/ Enjoy the festival, discover and experience many unexpected moments of joy and wonder. 3 /festival programme: The Big Turn On Ceramic Lights Blacsmithing Live Friday 4 th of July 6pm, outside of Peppertree Restaurant welcome + grand opening Illume welcome and grand opening. The Koputauai Kapa Haa group will lay down the challenge with a Haa, and haul in the many waa of the parade with song. The lights will come on and the festival begins! illuminated parade 6:0 pm A fun parade through town, featuring light themed floats built by Coromandel locals, school children with lanterns, and other performers. Friday 4th of July to Sat. th of July The Source Sculpture Garden [ 4 ] earth lanterns exhibition Toatea ceramic lights are sculptural objects that bring together the elements Earth and Fire. A candle inside each piece brings it to life, transmitting a soft glow to illuminate various cut out shapes. This exhibition runs only for the time of the illume festival and is a rare opportunity to view these small and large ceramic light objects by local artist Louis Kittleson. Saturday 5 th of July, from 6 pm, on the main street (Kapanga Rd) live fiery craft With Blacsmith Nate Saville. A live demonstration of traditional blacsmithing - blazing hot, fiery, and raw. Their musical style is a fusion of hot Brazilian rhythms with drum & bass, hip-hop and other dance influences.

The pair have performed at hundreds of festivals and events, and now travel the world teaching and performing death-defying circus art. They are coming bac home especially to perform during illume. Their musical style is a fusion of hot Brazilian rhythms with drum & bass, hip-hop and other dance influences. The band was founded in 00 and performs with up to 40 members. Lie our natural environment, many of these have been lovingly retained and preserved. Everywhere you go it s possible to see and feel traces of the place s history.
