1 WSRC #69 ** Holiday Party Tonight!! ** WSRC#69 Chips from the Buzzsaw The Weekly Newsletter of the Rotary Club of West Sacramento Our Program: Chris Worden, Future Ready Chris Worden, CEO of Future Ready gave an informative presentation on his organization s strategy to connect students studying engineering, science and technology to work-based learning internships and job training. Future Ready is a non-profit dedicated to bringing business owners and young adults entering the professional work force together through mutually beneficial internship programs. Junior and senior high school students in the Engineering, Science and Technology Academy at River City High School are provided high-quality, workbased learning opportunities that align with their curriculum. Through paid internships with local engineering, science and advancedmanufacturing companies, students will be prepared for success in an entry level job and/or post-secondary education. Employers will benefit by having increased access to a local labor pool that has completed industry-relevant academic coursework and has previous on-the-job experience. Interns receive digital badges, like a modern-day merit badge, to demonstrate their proven competence in skill sets most in demand by today s employers. The Kings play the Toronto Raptors. District 5180 s own quartet Rotary Four-Way Test will sing both the American and Canadian National Anthems. 3 CHIPS FROM THE BUZZSAW Volume 69, Issues #19 Delta High School Students of the Month Brenna Romo and Celine Rubalcava, with Principal (and visiting Rotarian) Laura Uslan Celine is a junior and is the ASB Spirit Chair. Brenna is a senior and is the ASB President. Both students gave an update on events and activities at Delta. Our Student of the Month Program is skillfully managed by Joanie Kapell and JoAnn Moffit. Thanks, Joanie, for introducing the students and thanks to both of you for your ongoing efforts on behalf of the Club. 6 SUPPORT THE CHRIST- MAS BASKET PROJECT IN WEST SAC!! Tim Carnahan models the Mad Hatter look as he collects for the Christmas Basket Project. West Sacramento Rotary has been helping with the project since its infancy. For 23 years in a row the club has increased the amount of its donation. Benefiting are 650 West Sacramento singles and families, many of them elderly, who have signed up to receive a box of assorted food items as 'Christmas baskets. We will pass the hat at four consecutive meetings before Christmas. All the money that is raised is then matched by the club and then given to the Christmas Food Basket Project. Each year our club has set a record for funds raised for this project.. Counting backwards from the week before Christmas for four meetings. Tim Carnahan and Marty Garozzo have managed and promoted this worthy effort on behalf of the Club. Dig into your pockets this Holiday Season and chip in when Tim and Marty pass the hat Remember to give! You can also write a check to either the Christmas Basket Project or to the Rotary Club and have a record of your donation for your taxes.! D O N A T E!
