3 NARELLAN ROAD STAGE TWO BEGINS Prime Minister the Hon Tony Abbott MP turned the first sod for Stage two of the upgrade of Narellan Road. The Commonwealth and NSW Governments are delivering on their commitment to upgrade Narellan Road to six lanes from Camden Valley Way at Narellan to Blaxland Road at Campbelltown. The 6.8 kilometre upgrade is a much-needed investment to improve infrastructure in the Macarthur area and throughout the south-west Sydney growth corridor. When completed, people will spend less time in traffic jams and more time with their families, businesses will get their goods and services to market faster and everyone will benefit from safer roads. During construction this project is expected to generate 250 jobs and benefit local businesses. 1.6 kilometres of Narellan Road will be widened between the Hume Motorway and Blaxland Road and make major improvements to the access road to the TAFE and University of Western Sydney. The southbound exit ramp from the Hume Motorway will also be widened to two lanes to reduce traffic queuing on the motorway, reducing rear end crash risk and making travel safer. Traffic lights will be installed at the newly upgraded Hume Motorway southbound exit ramp intersection and a new three metre wide pedestrian and cycle path installed alongside the southern side of the road to improve safety. Dual left turn lanes and an extra right turn lane will be built onto Narellan Road from the University as well as an incident response facility at the south east corner of the Hume Motorway interchange to ensure crashes are cleared quickly. The roundabout at the TAFE and University of Western Sydney access road will be upgraded to dual lanes, an additional eastbound right turn lane built to the TAFE and University and the right turn bay extended for 180 metres. The Commonwealth Government has provided $53 million towards the upgrade in addition to the NSW Government $61 million commitment. Photo: Camden Council Mayor Cr Lara Symkowiak, NSW Minister for Sports and Minister for Police the Hon Stuart Ayres MP, Camden LAC Commander Ward Hanson and Chris CAMDEN VALLEY WAY UPGRADE The upgrade of the Camden Valley Way is continuing and is on schedule for completion in The upgrade of Camden Valley Way is a vital piece of road infrastructure for the people of South West Sydney along with the South West Rail Link and the widening of the M5 West which is much needed infrastructure to support this region s growing population. Work will include two lanes upgraded to a four lane divided road, a posted vehicle speed limit of 80 km/h, a three metre wide off-road shared pedestrian/cyclist path on the western side of the road. Former Labor Member for Camden was recently quoted in the District Reporter July saying the following: Mr Corrigan acknowledged that Mr Patterson had been instrumental in getting Camden Valley Way upgraded a lot faster than the previous Labor government. This is testament that the people have the support of the current NSW Liberal Government in relation to the upgrade of infrastructure including: Bringelly Road, Narellan Road and the South West Rail Link.
