2 Budget2014 NSW Making our state a stronger and better community for all KEY NSW BUDGET ACHIEVEMENTS Dear resident, Three years ago NSW had a serious problem. Slow economic growth, higher unemployment rates, increased debt, and increased taxes were putting the community under pressure. Key infrastructure wasn t being built and education, health, police and community services weren t getting the resources they needed. The last Labor government borrowed more, taxed more and delivered less. Now, after three years of responsible decisions NSW is leading the nation in almost every economic category and the benefits are being delivered to our community. Our team is continuing to Rebuild NSW by: Ensuring better health $19.9 billion for our health budget, including employing new nurses and specialists, improving emergency departments and building new health facilities. Building transport infrastructure A record $61.5 billion over the next four years for infrastructure and building the largest road and rail projects in Australia The WestConnex and North West Rail Link. Investing in education, training and early childhood education Increasing last year s funds by $612 million for a $14.4 billion education budget. Supporting the vulnerable Protecting pensioner concessions and supporting the ageing, people with disability, their families and carers. This budget delivers for everyone in our state, and together with our recently announced $20 billion Rebuilding NSW infrastructure package, will make NSW a stronger and better community for all. Yours sincerely, Mike Baird Premier of NSW Record $61.5 billion in infrastructure over four years, including some of the biggest infrastructure projects in Australian history; Record $19.9 billion for health; Record $14.4 billion for education, training and early childhood education; Record $2.9 billion to support the ageing, people with disability, their families and carers; and an additional $500 million will be spent over four years to strengthen the child protection system.
