1 FHBC U15 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP INFORMATION For participating BC athletes and parents: Below provides preliminary information on the 2019 National Championship event at the University of Calgary, Hawkings Field, July 24-28, This document will be updated when information becomes available. TRAVEL - Flights Flight itineraries are determined by tournament dates, game times and best cost. Secondly, flight itineraries are created by team: team RAMS and LIONS travel through YVR, team STAGS travel through YYJ. It is mandatory for teams to fly together on the outbound flight. Island and Interior athletes on team LIONS or RAMS must travel to the mainland to depart with their team from YVR. This may require billeting and should be coordinated in advance with the Team Manager. This may also apply to the return journey. When the Flight Itinerary is published, parents will be invited to register their athlete s details into an online platform through our travel partners at Flight Centre. This will ensure the athlete s personal information and travel details are accurate, as confirmed by the parent. Parents can change their athlete s return flight itinerary through the Flight Centre online platform. Costs associated with changes will be managed between the parent and Flight Centre. Parents are 1

2 welcome to book their own travel plans through Flight Centre. Any changes made to an athlete s itinerary must be shared with their Team Manager. Chaperones are typically two coaches and one manager for a team of 16 athletes. COSTS Your athlete s flight cost will include a return flight and a fraction of the following costs: coach, manager, support staff and athletic therapist flight cost, goalie luggage, contingency. FHBC includes the cost of luggage (if possible - dependent upon airline policies) and coach bus (airport transfer) in the levy. Parents may not apply travel points to their athlete s flight cost. 3. TRAVEL - Ground Transportation It is the parent s responsibility to ensure their athlete arrives at their departure airport on time and prepared. It is also the parent s responsibility to pick-up their athlete at the airport upon their return. Coach bus/buses will take teams from YYC to U of C campus accommodation on July 23 and return on July 28. If there is room on the bus, parents are welcome to take a seat! Please connect with the Athlete Program Manager nearer the time to see if there are extra seats. During tournament days, athletes can walk between campus accommodation and the field. A rental car or Uber may be used by the Team Manager and/or Coaches for food/supplies and this expense is included in the athlete levy. 4. ACCOMMODATION Team accommodation will be at the University of Calgary student dormitories for 5 nights from July 23. It is mandatory for teams to stay together in organized team accommodation. FHBC has not made provisions for parents to book rooms at the University of Calgary. 5. CODE OF CONDUCT A Field Hockey Canada Code of Conduct Form will be circulated prior to departure. It is mandatory for each athlete to print a hard copy, sign the form, and return it to their Team Manager before departure. 6. TEAM CLOTHING/UNIFORM It is mandatory for athletes to wear their travel uniform when traveling with the team. Please provide your athlete with laundry bags with your athlete s name on the bag. Team uniforms must be returned to FHBC in good condition (for borrowed items). Athletes should also take all other Team BC Kukri clothing items. If there is a dress code for the Social Event, athletes should pack appropriate clothing for it. 2

3 OTHER IMPORTANT INFO 7. Daily Budget Team Managers will set a daily budget to include food/snacks/laundry, and team activities (if applicable). Parents are responsible for providing money (either by cash or e-transfer) to their Team Manager BEFORE competition. If parents would like to help with daily food/drinks or organize team meals, please speak with your Team Manager. The additional support is always welcome! 8. Team Activities Depending on the competition schedule, teams may have an opportunity to take part in off-field activities such as team-building or site seeing. These events will have cost implications outside of the levy. As such, parents should be prepared to provide athletes with additional spending money over and above the cost of food/snacks/laundry. Team coaches and managers will oversee the detail and inform parents of cost, ahead of time. 9. Ongoing Information and Communication More information will be provided as it becomes available.
